Touhou Kishinjou (DDC) - head-trick [post-rock/post-metal]

Hello everyone. I've been aware of ocr for the longest time and always wanted to try doing something but never had the guts to sign up. So I signed up at the beginning of this year and never posted. So this is my first post, but I've been doing lots of Touhou rearrangements on the side for a while now.

So this is a post-rock rearrangement of "Dullahan Under the Willows" from the most recent (full) Touhou game. I feel like I used a lot of the source, but because my arrangement is 7 minutes long, I am worried the percentage is off. Either way I am finished the arrangement, so please lend me your mixing advice.

There are several drum homages so I hope that's not a problem; kudos if you recognize them.

Thank you for your time.

Hello! Welcome to OCR!

Actually, there's nothing much to do here. All you need at first stage is tide your guitars panorama. Now your guitars(except 0:35) are kinda "too big". Some hard panning will change your soundscape a lot, in a good way.

It's kinda hard to tell right now what else to do or add, before your panorama is so wide.

I can hear that work freqs of all your guitars 200-2000Hz. I'd suggest to drop a bit at 600-1200Hz or/and 200-400Hz. So you can hear what else is need(lift 6kHz?).

Same for bass. 400-1500Hz drop will be interesting, I think.

Some timing issues here and there(bass/kick drum/guitar rhythm), not to bad imo. Some tuning problems, not bad also(but adding flanger or chorus will be good, for some rhythms).

oh, and kick sounds kinda off, from rest of your drum kit. Drop 1kHZ-2,2kHZ and listen. May be you'll hear the problem.

Cool track!)

Thank you very much for your kind reply! I have taken a lot of this advice into the current revision, and have edited the OP with a new link:

I am personally not a huge fan of hard-panned guitars, but I thought to give it a try as per your advice. I was using a stereo spread on a lot of the guitars before for some reason, but have since hard-panned most of them. Sounds good to me!

Most guitars and the bass guitar were given cuts around the suggested areas.

Thank you so much for pointing out the kick thing! I wouldn't have thought anything of it until you had me check my EQ settings. I had some strange boosts that I have since removed.

Hello, I am bumping this post because I realized I left this undone without even trying for a mod's opinion or anything. The game was just released on Playism, so now people outside of Japan (or who didn't want to use amazon.jp) can purchase the game, so I guess it's as good a time as any to try again.

I actually released a full album almost half a year ago of Touhou post-rock, so please check that out if you like.
