Liontamer
Artist Name: LXE I arranged this to be super minimal stripped down version of the tune that I thought might be heard at a some jazz club or cocktail bar in the wee hours of the morning. The bass is definitely the star here, walking all over the place and providing percussion, but the vibraphone helps fill in the harmony and give a contrasting timbre to the bass. Liontamer
Gonna make it quick. The ending's flat, but it does resolve. The arrangement's creative, so I appreciate the approach. It could have been more dynamic, but it's transformative enough that I'm alright with it, even if I felt it required more time. Feels like there was more potential meat on the bone and that these 2-minute pieces feel unsatisfying. The transformativeness of the arrangement approach tilts it. However, if you take more care to fashion a meaningful resolution, it'd feel more fully developed and resolved. YES (borderline)
prophetik music
gets right into it. there's a lot of finger noise on the bass, particularly the attack, which is partially cool to hear how organic it is and partially distracting. the vibes are spare in their application - almost too much so! i'd love to hear more! - and there's a few sections where they don't line up with the bass (like the riff at 2:00). there's some copy going on in the vibes to my ear around the :50-1:00 mark and again at 1:55-2:05. the vibes don't have much velocitization to my ear at all - i don't hear many attacks that aren't exactly the same as the previous entries. there's also some notes that are not idiomatic (like 1:49 and each time that pattern occurs before in the track). i'm with LT. it's a creative arrangement that is uncanny-valley and has some technical missteps that are unfortunate. i'd love to hear a slightly more fleshed-out version that features more attention to the vibes realism and bass attack variation. i think the clever interplay is great though and i think this is over the bar, i just wish that more was done with it. Emunator
Yeah, this one wastes no time getting into it, but these sort of experimental tracks have consistently been my favorite LXE pieces. Much like Koopalings or Raga Koopa, you set out on a mission and managed to achieve it without a lot of extra frills, and the underlying musicianship pulls it through. I would have liked to hear a slightly different EQ balance on the bass so that the higher notes aren't so abrasive, and the vibraphone realism leaves a bit to be desired, but the bass is, as you said, the star of the show, and shine it certainly does! Chimpazilla
That source tune with the 90s brass stabs! The remix does dive right in. Bass sounds great to me, as does the vibraphone. The bass is walking all over me. The balancing and mixing are fine, the master is sort of loud for this style but it's completely clean. I love this, minimal and cool! Waitress, I need another cocktail please. No, I haven't had too many already. YES
