I took direct inspiration from the name of the album, particularly with treatment of the source's main arpeggio. There's multiple portions devoted to layers and layers of the arpeggio offset from each other, as if they're each shifting through time. Initially, there were sections of complete silence, but after getting some feedback, I decided to add some effects there and boost my nostalgia points :3. Shoutouts to Gravitygauntlet for mixing this track, he really brought the track to the next level. Enjoy! Not sure how I feel about having my thunder stolen for "The most chiptuniest Corridor of Time ReMix" title taken away from me, but on the other hand I do like the different approach that this one holds. The production of the chips are very clean - dry, but they fill the space well enough regardless with their density. I might have a certain affinity toward chips that have more modern post production done on them to make them fill the space better (with reverb, delay, etc.), but there's certainly an appeal that you get by handling the chips more naturally. I like it. Concerning the arrangement, it's different. It definitely takes it's time to get to the meat of it's ideas. I think some of the length of the arrangement is gratuitous, but it's hard to point to any section that could've been cut without impact so I could just be upset that it doesn't get to my favorite parts quick enough such as at 4:08 - very nice contrast in density and a great interpretation of the source. I can see some folk not appreciating the sudden ending, but to be honest the arrangement preps the listeners well enough for it with other sudden cuts so I think it works well enough as an ending. Nah, couldn't in good consciousness leave this one off the front page. Great work, and I relinquish my Corridors of Time chiptune crown to you happily. Gario put that in our #judgechat and it requires being shared with the world. :-D "ChroNES Trigger" would have also been an acceptable title too. :-) Dropoff at 1:09 was "WTF", so nice way to catch me off guard, then shifting to Game Boy-style instrumentation at 1:18. I put a hex on you for 3:28-3:56's section, but the slow de-sync to re-sync was a fun idea. :-P Nice deconstruction at 4:07; not the mooooost engaging thing to listen to, though I'm trusting it to go somewhere, so I'll let it simmer. The track filled out the most at 5:00, and to me the way it essentially crescendoed here is disappointing. 5:35 though had a nice textural change to start winding down (not really, as it spun right back up). It'll sound like I'm saying I didn't enjoy it; to me, this is good, but the track plateaus in energy too early and then some sections feel like they go a while without saying anything new for too long. When the texture changed up at 6:27, I love it, but it also should have happened, say, at 5:00 instead and you wouldn't have lost anything, IMO. prophetik music Posted September 13 Author Share Posted September 13 i will not be left off a yes vote! opening section takes a minute to get going, but i like the glass-esque build and intense focus. there's a (probably too long) sfx break to the melodic content which comes in at 1:20. the melodic is initially very spare, but i get that it fleshes out over time and i think it's a fun build since it's similar to the game's story. we get a big hit of everything at 1:55 and it gets trucking along nicely at that point. the change at 3:22 is a fun one - again, very steve reich/terry riley phase experimental. there's another sfx break and the b theme comes in with such a different vibe. really neat idea here too. i actually didn't like the subsequent section with how full it was - i think overall the best parts of the song to me were the ones that were more spare in their approach. 5:37 feels great for example. i'll say though that finally coming back to the a theme at 5:52 really felt great. around here i noticed that the snare and fills before were really loud and that was a little much to my ears. there's an outro section that's less naturally from an instrumentation standpoint, and then it's done. there's a few seconds of silence at the end that does a great job of actually ending the piece. there's a lot here to like. CoT is such an overdone track (i should know, i have one on the panel right now too!) that this is kind of surprising how far afield it's able to travel. i appreciate the breadth of the arrangement and how much you do to reinforce the natural beauty of the arpeggio that ties it all together. great work.
