Liontamer
Would need a new title if appoved -LT Artist Name: Gabriel Busarello I used as references mainly musics from Avenged Sevenfold to make this. I liked so much the second part of the song where i made a reggae. Actually, i think it became a very good song to listen. Games & Sources I made a rock version of the music. I used bass, guitars, drums and organ. The original music is here: Edited February 15 by Chimpazilla closed decision
prophetik music
opens with a half-time rendition of the melody. 0:22's where it kind of starts to get kicking. the synth guitar isn't super realistic but i like the idea, i think it feels fun. there's another time shift at 0:38 where it's in half-time, and we get another rendition of the first few bars of the start of the melody (pretty sure that's the same as the first time). there's some transitional material, and it runs through the same stuff as the first time through in the same order with the same fills and everything. there's a bit of change on the final ten seconds or so, a few chords to end it, and it's done. this is really short! it's like a minute of music repeated. i don't think there's enough adaptation here to fulfill our guidelines around depth of arrangement. i think the idea's fun - Mario Kart tracks are all so energetic, so i think this is a great idea for an adaptation - i just think that nowhere near enough has been done to make it yours instead of the original composer. from a mix perspective, the rhythm guitar instrument and bass are competing for the same area and it sounds muddy as a result. along those lines, the synth guitar doesn't really stick the landing either in the rhythm guitar department or in the lead. i think that a little more attention there would be needed (and a little less fast vibrato) before that gets closer to par. fun sound test idea! needs some more cooking before it's ready. i recommend the workshop forum or the workshop discord channel. Hemophiliac
Very conservative straightforward genre adaption we have here. The source (Yoshi's Island) was always a fun one and there's a world I can see this working. However, it will take a lot more personalization from you to get this into a place where it becomes more than just a genre adaption. Add more of your own interpretation, and your takes on this iconic source. Aside from 1:00-1:10 with a quick bridge to get us back to the beginning of the track, it's the same as the source melodically and structurally. With a very short track, this also has a nearly identical first and second half of the piece. More variation and changes in the second half would prevent this from being repetitive. The best thing you've done here was the drums. Their part was handled pretty well, and change up often enough to propel the piece forward. The written part feels good, but keep an eye on machine-gunning the velocities on repeated fast notes. This could result in them feeling unreal. The lead guitar is in a weird place, very uncanny valley. Tone-wise it sounds ok, but the vibrato and rigid humanization throws you off and exposes the sample for being not a live performance. The bottom end of the mix isn't the worst but it could be cleaned up some. The bass and kick are competing for the same space and need to share and play nice. While that wasn't a huge problem for me, I do want to point out that it is there and could be improved. While this is a fun adaption there isn't enough interpretation for OCR. Let's hear more of your own interpretation, and not just Yoshi's Island in a "rock" setting. NO
Chimpazilla
Hhhhmmm... it is concerning when the artist deletes his link to the track mid-vote, without comment, but ok, YouTube it is. This is a very cute idea, I love the concept. But the arrangement is super conservative, and repetitive. This remix is two playthroughs of the same material, back to back. The guitar samples sound good, although the vibrato on the lead enters the same way at the same intervals, which makes it sound uncanny rather than charming. I think the sample works just fine in timbre, but varying the vibrato timings would help. The overall mixing and volume balancing sounds generally good to me, although I agree with my fellow Js that the low end could be cleaned up just a bit with some EQ so the low elements don't compete. This arrangement is borderline too short at just over two minutes, and the repetitive nature of it (two identical playthroughs) is dealbreaker, but I enjoyed listening to it nonetheless!
