valkyrie16 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Hey guys. I've been fiddling around with some sequencers/samplers for a while and I came up with this little arrangement of To Zanarkand for Marimba. It's more of a software/hardware test than anything, because I wanted to see what I could do with the software I had available. Let me know what you think, any ideas towards improvement are welcome and appreciated. https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/arobles2/tozanarkandmarimba.mp3 Quote
avaris Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I really like it, it sounds pretty cool. I'd say expand on it more and give it some more expressive elements composionally. Maybe even some accompany orchestral or ethnic elements. Quote
Theory of N Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 It's nice. Not much for originality, but I like listening to it. I'd say about the same thing avaris did about the composition. Maybe add some *very* light hand percussion. Little things would go a long way in this, imo. Quote
Radiowar Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 ..midi rip? yeah that's what i thought i don't know if you actually play marimba but there is a lot you can do with the instrument that is not really represented here Quote
Thin Crust Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Yes, definitely extend it, and a background string accompaniment would be a great addition. An example would be if you listen to the song on the moonflow, you will recognize it as this song remixed by Nobou. It demonstrates what I mean. Quote
DarkMessenger Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 OH yeah..... I would like to play this live....I'm a pro percussionist and I'm searching for this kinda stuff. Maybe even record it for you....?????huh huh huh????? Well...I think I'll have to skip some notes though because I only use 4 sticks....ah what ever!!! Let me know what you think, maybe you could send me midi file or something. DarkM Quote
DragonFireKai Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 It's very one dimensional as it stands, very few mixes can pull that off. You could make it very interesting by bringing in background lines. Perhaps an african drum beat at about 16 seconds. Maybe throw in a didgeridoo. Or a strings background would work well. Quote
The Instrumental Light Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 pretty cool, its kind of simple and it has only one thing,The Main Instrument. some mixes could do ok with it but i think its essential that add something more its too boring the way it is. great job! -The Lone Ranger Quote
