Chimpazilla ⚖️ Posted May 10 Posted May 10 "Sell It To Me" (Twilight Princess - Malo Mart) Chimpazilla - featuring Emunator (additional sfx) and RallyCat ("sell it to me" vocals) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On the road through Castle Town, I see a flashy store. I pass by this place every day. It tempts me more and more. Today I got my courage up, and entered through the door. Inside this shop it's brightly lit, with colors not from earth. The items here are priced so high, too dear for what they're worth. The salesman wears a freaky grin, and cannot hide his mirth. The truth is this: I want it all. Everything I see. One item here, above the rest, inspires greedy glee. I hope that I can prove my worth, so he will SELL IT TO ME! Humanity has one main goal, and that is to survive. We are consumed, all day and night, with how to stay alive. But once our basic needs are met, for what else can we strive? We like to think we're civilized, with matters of the heart. We focus on the finer things: music, science, art, But with those lofty goals achieved, we're left with Malo Mart: A place to shop until we drop, forget all of our cares, Consume until we breathe no more, just purchase all the wares And hope the god of earthly wealth will answer all our prayers, For shopping is the thing we do to drown out all the pain Of living in a forlorn world for which we have disdain, But with enough possessions, we don't feel so insane! So, sell it to me, sell it to me, lest I should go to hell. Sell it to me, please sell it to me, I've served my purpose well. Sell it to me, sell it to, sell it, sell it, sell... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Malo Mart 0:48-1:21, 1:29-1:35, 1:37-2:07, 2:26-2:58, 3:07-3:38, 3:41-3:45 = 196 seconds Castle Town 1:02-1:04, 1:11-1:13, 1:51-1:53, 1:59-2:01 = 8 seconds Total source 204 seconds, track is 238 seconds, 86% source use ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This may be the weirdest and darkest track I've ever done. All the dissonance is intentional. The sugary-sweet major-scale Malo Mart against the minor/horror backdrop is totally intentional. The ridiculous reverb mushing into a hellscape against the sharp percs and sfx is completely intentional. And I am utterly obsessed lately with heavy Reggaeton drum grooves. As usual, Emunator brought the sauce with an extensive personalized "splice pack" of excellent sfx. Every stem he provided has been used in the track. At the last minute I convinced RallyCat to record himself whisper-wheezing "sell it to me" which was the final piece of the puzzle to complete the track. Halloween release requested if deemed appropriate this year.
prophetik music ⚖️ Posted May 14 Posted May 14 i forgot how much i hated the voice sfx in malo mart, thanks for getting that stuck in my head again. percs and some eerie strings to start, and some really fun sfx and percussive elements come in soon after. the beat at 0:16 is fantastic, i love how heavy it is. the various super-verby elements on top fit in really nice, and make the malo mart melodic material - still in major - sound so weird. from a theory perspective, the actual melodic material really doesn't fit the chordal elements much, but that helps make it feel more unsettling. the lead used for the melodic material might be a little too bright for the texture, but that's probably more personal preference than anything. there's a drop at 1:21, and we get a lot of sfx and vocal clips to keep things moving. there's loads of malo mart in the background of this whole section as well. it drops even further and layers in some Wormtongue-esque vocals after the 2:10 mark. the panning "sell it to me" clip is appropriately weird. we even get laughing children, because kids are creepy and strange. this transitions to an oddly happy rendition of malo mart around the 3:10 mark, while keeping the weird sfx and backing elements going at the same time. i think the idea here was the contrast being unsettling, and i get that, but felt it lost a little of the dark vibe here for a bit. this fades out to some great horror sfx and a musicbox, and it's done. this is wild and not at all what i expected from our main monkey mix matriarch. the contrast throughout is really unique and interesting, and of course the track sounds excellent in terms of the master. i think this'd be a great october mixpost for sure. Liontamer ⚖️ Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Cool contrast of the bright, bubbly theme being given much darker undertones. Y'all pulled it off well! Lots of effective changes in the instrumentation and textures to keep the piece evolving. Really strange direction to take it in, but it's embraced wholeheartedly, so you've sold it to me. ;-) YES
Hemophiliac ⚖️ Posted June 30 Posted June 30 This is some dark and heavy work, but at the same time light and bouncy. It's the epitome of a musical oxymoron. It's weird and strange altogether, but also lukewarm and comforting. The contrast between the melodic elements and the supporting and backing elements could not be more separate and eerie. The beat is great, and the arrangement is solid. No issues with source usage, once it jumps in 0:48 it's all over and clear to pick out. Production is excellent of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from the Chimpazilla. Horrifyingly terrific. YES
