Lotd2242
It's just about timing. It's a total bitch with Knuckles because if you're off at all, you either won't hit him or you'll hit the spikey hands things and die. Sonic and Tails have more leeway. And if memory serves, you can't climb the wall and glide into him. 'Course, the most fun way to do it is to put the game in that debug mode, create an assload of ring boxes, pop them all, and turn into Super Sonic... Upthorn
So how long can you hold on to your rings? Do you loose them after every save point? Can you hold on to them throughout multiple levels and rach upwards for 200 to 300? Setting aside the fact that it's completely impossible to hold on to rings through multiple levels (since they're reset to 0 at the start of each one and all) you might be interested in http://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_1/rings, http://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_2/rings, http://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_3/rings, http://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_&_knuckles/rings, and perhaps the ring attack divisions that site holds for every other sonic game, as well. Agreed on the second point. Though the real trick to beating the giant robot is patience. You can beat it as Knuckles' sucky jump, though it's hard. The trick is when the crosshair locks onto you, you only run slightly out of the way, turn around and whack Robotnik when he lands, because his body comes closer to the ground. Then you get your butt to the other side of the arena to avoid those damnable shooting arms.
Lotd2242
Patience is quite contrary to the nature of Sonic the Hedgehog and his games.
Triad Orion
That's exactly what makes a number of the endbosses so devious. Robotnik's using Sonic's greatest weakness. *Laughs*
Tenucha
Clearly you take your time in those stages then, what with having to have 50 rings and hit a sign-post. I didn't even think there were 7 sign posts that quickly. The last boss is amazingly easy with Sonic or Tails. He's only hard if you have to do it with Knuckles since he can't jump as high. Hell Metal Sonic is harder than the giant walking Eggman. Ya I just rememberd how hard it was to play Sonic2 with Knuckles... He cant jump high! WTF?! Atleast he KINDA sorta makes up for it by not clearing his rings. Recently I been able to hold on to my rings longer with Knuckles in Sonic2. By the Oil Ocean stage I had all but 1 Chaos Emerald and I shut down the game 'cus I was really tired and wanted to sleep... Eh. Not so much. I just wanted to see how everyone fares here... and also see if many people still play the games or jus tlisten to the music. I got back into playing becasue of the remixes here. And ya... I know the rings reset after each zone and sometimes even afterr the Emerald levels. I'm talking about in a particular level is all...Like apparently if I play as anyone but Knuckles I loose my rings pretty easly.
Devyn
I've gotten over 300 before, but it depends on the level, and the game (accumulating large amounts is much easier in games like 3 when the stages are long, but you can't exclude Sonic 2 levels like the Casino zone) But yeah, I try to have at least 100 before I beat each stage. I like to have those continues, just to know that I have them.

I just played Sonic 2 & Knuckles maybe a week, week and a half ago. It had been literally years since I had last played that game, and I was considerably younger when I did so. This time around I found myself able to acquire all seven emeralds legitimately (I never knew you could turn into Super Sonic/Knuckles without a cheat in STH2). The only problem I had with the final boss was a problem people have probably noticed in other Robotnik boss battles: if you've just hit him and he's still got that white outline (Robotnik is staring at the screen and grinning at this point) and you jump on him again, you'll usually go right through him. That particular glitch killed me a number of times against the final boss. But otherwise I was fine.
