This is just me tinkering with samples and trying to find a good sound. It's not even a WIP yet. Do not bother telling me how short and under-developed it is. I'm aware.

I've had a nice short break from remixing and now I'm starting back up again. I want to do a Psychonauts mix next and I'm looking for the right sound. This is what I've got after a couple hours of playing around. Not sure where to go with it.

What do you guys think? Keep going with this or scrap it and try again?

Has a very metallic feel to it. I think there are too many sharp sounds, wears out the ears really quick. You could keep the amount of sharp sounds but I'd prob add some automated filters and volume controls to create a more dynamic sound. Some smoother more natural elements could help balance this out IMO.

Scrap it and start over. I like the idea of this piece, but you're right, the sound just isn't coming together well. Too peppy to be dark, too grating to get into; either try a different sound or switch the style. This is just riding the fence too much between your style and the original, and it's chafing my ass.

I don't mind the tinny lead at the beginning at all. But there's a crunchy percussion sound when the breakbeat comes in- like a shaker or something like it- sounding like it's passed through a high resonance filter. That got tiring quickly and it's overpowering the rest of the percussion.

I can imagine this switching to psychedelic trance after doing the breaks for a while.
