Schwaltzvald Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Any one know where I can buy some barebones laptops..? Perhaps with a good graphics card or at least reliable mobo..? Google doesn't help much at all... Quote
Katsurugi Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 The Asus eee is the only barebones laptop that I know of. But maybe that's because it was making some noise earlier. http://eeepc.asus.com/global/ As for good graphics card, I doubt it. Barebones usually means barebones. Quote
BlueMage Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 It will eventually. But the Eee is intended at this point to run linux. It's a way of getting linux some more market exposure while simultaneously demonstrating the low spec requirements compared to a comparable Windows system. I've seriously toyed with the idea of getting one. Quote

I was actually considering that since that way I can experiment with Linux on the go Still, chances are I will have two lappys, one for linux experimentation and the other windows for work. Quote
BlueMage Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 The best part is the hard stuff is already done for you - getting wireless and sound working (these two seem to be the major hurdles for linux on laptops) and for about 400USD it's not a bad little workhorse. Quote
The Pezman Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 This is the one meant for children in Africa, right? If so, thank you for reminding me of the name. If not, someone correct me. Quote
