I ran into this by accident. http://www.soundsonline.com/Complete-Composers-Collection-PLAY-Edition-SAVE-60-pr-EW-189.html - EWQLSO Gold Edition - EWQL Pianos Gold Edition - EWQL Symphonic Choirs - EWQL Goliath (Colossus and then some!) - QL Stormdrum 2 - QL Voices of Passionn (Solo female vocals and vocal phrases) - QL Ra (Ethnic) $1,195 ($3,000+ individually) Good lord, if I thought my computer could handle all this, I'd spend my budget on this in a heartbeat. Looks great to me.

Should there be a 'music industry'?

Lord, I WAS going to go to the movies tonight, but I think I'll stay in and watch this instead. Popcorn anyone? -
Spectrasonics Trillian

$100 American is not hard to get, Skryp. A human toe can fetch $399, and how often are you going to use them? Even if I'm not a big fan of the software, I think a small price tag like that is more than enough incentive. Some of those sounds I think would sound great against your soundscapes. -

I'm sold on this sentence alone. Gotta look at my upcoming finances though. When's it dropping? -
How much RAM does Fruity Loops recognize?
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
I have not upgraded yet. Its on my "do-to list", but so are a lot of other things right now. The RAM extender might be the ticket if it gets me another gig to work with. Mostly the reason I'm asking is because I'm still looking at EWQLSO Silver for my orchestral needs and I was told I would probably need like 4-6gigs RAM for "functional" really good orchestral work. Now I'm looking at HALION Symphonic because of its "Disk Streaming" feature which, if that means what I take it to mean, will let me get more orchestral work done for less RAM consumption. (Yeah, I'm still bothering with this new setup I'm trying to work out. I never though having an actual budget to work with would be such a headache for me and those around me). -

That sounds tricky - how do you get that to work? (Remember, I'm not really that technically minded). -
It was suggested to me (not directly) that I need more RAM to be able to pull off more complicated stuff in FL. I have between 3.5-4gb of RAM right now, 6gigs were brought up as "functionary", so I might get another RAM boost. But I also remember hearing from somewhere, more than once, that FL Studio (I'm running FL Studio 8 at right now) only recognizes 2gig of RAM at a time? Is that right, or am I grossly misinterpreting how much I can realistically work with on FL Studio? If not, how do you pull off more complicated sounding things with all these instruments, layers and effects given the limitation?

Spectrasonics Trillian
Meteo Xavier replied to big giant circles's topic in Music Composition & Production
Me too. I'm still in grand considerations of what to do with my $1,000 budget and I've been inching more and more towards Omnisphere again. Course, that and HALION Symphonic might make a ridiculous combination. -
Anyone else crate digging?

Let's just drop the argument entirely as it has no value or purpose in this forum. I just prefer asking people when its convenient to. That's it. There doesn't need to be an argument about it. -

I really don't think its worth getting an attitude for. People ask questions on forums. That's what they're there for. I prefer asking people. I don't see whats wrong with that. -
Need recommendations for remixing mainstream rock tracks.
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in General Discussion
That's what I'm looking to do if it works out, but I've never worked with vocals or vocal splicing before. Depending, I might need to hire a vocalist - but I have to wait and hear back from them first. -

While I'm sure that wasn't meant to be useful in any way, that was a good suggestion to Youtube's search engine. Thats a good way to get started and a frame of reference. I just wondered who else to look for. I know Trent Reznor remixes people, but I haven't been impressed with him since The Fragile. -
I might have a gig doing this in a few months - I got a contact from a band with not small a following or tiny a prestige looking for remix work. While this provides an astounding level of opportunity I didn't think I really deserved at this point, it also provides a heavy obstacle. I don't think I've ever heard a remix of alternative rock music (and I don't mean covers, I mean a full-on remix) and I'm pretty sure its not the same thing as an Ocremix, so I'm just looking for a proper frame of reference here. I don't want to give too much away at this point because it might not happen (I might have to recommend some of our heavy hitters here because I more than likely do not have the equipment or skill to be able to do this) - they sound kind of like a cross between The Ataris and Muse or Arcade Fire or something. Kinda artsier, mainstream radio-ready music. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here - like youtube links to songs like that or your own examples or something.

I come from a generation that is still used to asking questions to people for serviceable answers, not Google or Wiki. -

I'd say save your money first. It sounds pretty good and I'm sure its a great tool for those who can afford it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other than a hardcore bass enthusiast or someone who gets a lot of AAA work. I think you can get, especially the synth sounds, similar ones for much less and be able to work with them already, Rozovian. -
I think maybe we're digging too deep to fully define what is "truly groundbreaking, innovative, etc." Pretty much everything innovative has been done before sometime, somewhere - usually by the chinese some thousands of years ago. On a similar note, have you seen this yet? http://www.synthtopia.com/content/tag/eigenharp/ A lot of people are saying THIS is the new revolution in music. I'm not quite so enamored with it, but I'm a minority in terms of people who have seen it so far. With new dynamics and structure come new ways to do music, so its definitely worth seeing what could come from such a thing.

See, a lot of people would find that pretentious and a deterrent to music that should rock. I call bullshit on that, I LOVE it when artists have a very blatant concept that they try to execute. Even if they go so far as to write a word salad paragraph description and spare no expense to bring the monstrosity to life - you just gotta admire the balls these people have to actually do something like that. That's what innovation really takes - just the balls to do it and the guts to do it well. I'm going to check this CD out when I get home.

You ain't whistlin' dixie, brother. Here are some others I found... http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95179 http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=126731 http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=125422&sid=2d4ffde5efdab20ade46bad2e867b126 http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1854900 Glad I didn't buy it yet. I've had little luck actually finding proper reviews for Kontakt 4 yet, so $599 for Komplete 6 are a pretty expensive crapshoot at this point. -

Has anyone tried the new VSL solo strings and such from Kontakt 4? I keep listening to the audio demo on NI's website and they just sound terrible considering where they come from. Is it just a bad audio demo or are they really not that good? -
