Leona Lewis in FF XIII OST? What do you think?
Meteo Xavier replied to Malaki-LEGEND.sys's topic in General Discussion
Hell no. Some of the best songs I've heard in the last couple of years have been these vocal tracks. Baten Kaitos Origins, Chrono Cross, Xenosagas I-III, Xenogears, FFIX, La Pucelle Tactics, Suikoden III... the list goes on. And let me tell you something. You haven't CHILLED until you've chilled to the "Silent" version of Melodies of Life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGImr9HKbN4. You can't tell me these tracks don't add something to the experience. -
Leona Lewis in FF XIII OST? What do you think?
Meteo Xavier replied to Malaki-LEGEND.sys's topic in General Discussion
Then why do you care enough here to post at all? I still don't understand what the problem here is. I think its actually pretty cool a major recording star was willing to do this for Final Fantasy. I don't even remember the last time when a vocal track and lyrics fully matched up and justified a game anyway - whats this VS another? And for those who complain what a corporate product FF has become; get over it. Its ALWAYS been a product. Thats what a game is. Things change. Final Fantasy changes. The world somehow continues on. Enjoy it for what it is instead of what its supposed to be. -

That Leona Lewis video was LOUD. That's my only problem here. -

God, I hate it when people molest good role models with this shit. I'm furious. -
I'm not trying to turn into a spam bot and no one is sponsoring me here, but while I got a minute away from work and something from IK that just got in the email, I thought I'd share it. Here's what they sent me. "Total Workstation 2 Total Workstation 2 Instruments Bundle $349.99* instead of $699.99* Includes: SampleTank 2.5 XL, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleMoog, SampleTron 5 Virtual Instruments & Workstations, 28 GB of samples and over 14,000 sounds covering every instrument and style Total Studio 2 Total Studio 2 Bundle $549.99 instead of $1,099.99* Includes: SampleTank 2.5 XL, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleMoogTM, SampleTron, AmpliTube 2, Ampeg® SVX, AmpliTube Jimi HendrixTM, AmpliTube Metal, AmpliTube X-GEAR, Classik Studio Reverb, T-RackS 3 Standard. 12 award-winning IK Virtual Instruments and Effects plug-ins for all of your studio needs. I'm not a huge fan of IK myself, but $349 is less than some of those VSTs sell individually, or at least on par. The T-Racks stuff I've heard good things about. Thats what Nutritious uses and I think its what Zircon uses. Awesome deal.

Yeah I was wondering who the hell that was on myspace page. I remember saying something about this happening. -
Malcos - Ascension DnB album available now on Protagonist!
Meteo Xavier replied to sgx's topic in General Discussion
Malcos is pretty awesome from what I've heard so far. Haven't dug in completely yet, but I'm actually quite impressed with him all the way around I must say genuinely. -

Don't say that. Think of them like bookends or brothers or something. I'll check this out when I get to a computer that has some sound in it. -
How do you process YOUR orchestra?
Meteo Xavier replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
Umm..... is this related to the fact that for the last few weeks I've been hearing people screaming when I try to go to bed even though no actual sound is being made? (That is true btw) Thats what I do too, I look for problems in my mix all the way around. I don't want to be one of those idiots who is oblivious to very general sound problems in his mix, but I can't seem to come to a point where I can say, "Ok, this sounds fine and I don't have to worry about it." Because every time I've done that, I've been criticized for sample or mix quality (See my Epic Fail Super Metroid remix that thankfully got killed) and I don't want to keep doing that. -

Meteo Xavier replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
Is that real? Because that does sound like what I have when I'm working on them. Shit, umm... no its not phase transitioning, I'm sorry. I guess the word I'm looking for is "Dynamic Transient Processing"? Its this thing: http://www.fluxhome.com/products/Freewares/bittersweet2 -
How do you process YOUR orchestra?
Meteo Xavier replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
That's all I was looking for were the samples themselves. But the strings are unbelievable, the violin in particular, and the sound demo that I remember listening to for Kompakt made it sound much different and believable than what I could do, so I'm just wondering whats missing or what I'm doing wrong in programming the strings. I mean, I know violins sampled are in the ballpark of the hardest to replicate in the first place, but if they can make it sound believable then somehow in their demo, I should too. I'm just trying to see what I'm missing here. Hmm... this might be that entitlement thing Rozovian was talking about... -

The example wasn't made for orchestration, it was made for examples on the samples and their mechanization. That would be why. -

How do you process YOUR orchestra?
Meteo Xavier replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
To be fair, a lot of these companies advertise something to effect of being able to create orchestras and pianos right out of the box "right out of the box". So what do these companies do to get these song demos with their samples sounding better than most who buy it could do? Do they run them through MIDI controller keyboards and professional studio mixing and mastering and so forth to get them way? Because I'm stumped just trying to use their controls and FL Studio. Doesn't matter what I do, they just refuse to sound right. Here's an example: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=523 I used Colossus, big professional VST engine, for the harps and piano and Kompakt for the strings because Colossus's strings are horrible. Actually, the piano and the harps came out pretty well, but you can tell its not great. And I did the velocity layering, the reverb, compression, phase transitioning (I still don't what that is), stereo seperation, filtering, etc. etc. and it still doesn't sound anything close to what these companies usually offer. What am I missing out on here? -

Umm... I wasn't making a statement or anything, I'm genuinely curious. -

I'm guessing the same could be said for all libraries? What are the advanced "controllers"? The thing I keep wondering is, if all these sample libraries tout how much their presets and samples are sampled from award-winning sound designers and recorders, etc. etc., why are you supposed to edit and mess with them so much to get them to sound right? I mean, you clearly have to to get them to work, I just don't understand how that works out. -
60% Off Complete Composers Collection
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
Oh, I didn't see this until last night - apparently you can make your OWN 60% off EastWest bundle. Damn, that'd be a lot better considering I've evidently already got Goliath and don't need Voices of Passion. The price changes obviously, but thats still pretty cool. -
Caveman Ninjas JOE & MAC REMASTERED!!!

Somehow I predicted this... I didn't think it'd really come true though. -
I'd save up and get both personally. Turbos are not easy to find.

How much RAM does Fruity Loops recognize?
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
Really? Nobody's mentioned DFD to me before on the subject. That's actually really great to hear. Edit (11/9/09) Colossus, Kompakt and Kontakt use DFD too much to my pleasure and saving grace. The installation was so damn easy it didn't even need/have a README file. I kept wondering how anyone could possibly use Colossus when instruments take up 100s of MB a shot and a full gig for piano. I'm a happy boy. -

Yeah I know you've been recommending me away from PLAY, but I didn't know its weaker than Kontakt. Weaker in what way? -
60% Off Complete Composers Collection
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
You ain't whistlin' dixie, brother. I'd buy it right now and wait until I finish that part timer which is my official budget for it to balance out if I thought all those products at once wouldn't just overload my computer. The other thing is Goliath, which is basically Colossus+, which I already have and don't like that much. I'd have to see what Goliath would do to Colossus. Still, that kind of quality doesn't just drop out of the sky. I want to really consider this. -
