  1. Oh by the way I'm going to win.

I know this isn't a competition but I'm still going to win.

As for the 'viewing party' I thought something that might be fun is not just coordinating groups around the world to watch it at the same time... but also to film the reactions of the groups and assemble that footage later.

    ...

By the way, did any of you guys go with a 'two-girls-one-cup' theme or was it just me?

I was going to, but now it's "two-girls-one-cup-one-monkey"

But seriously, I think I might have a chance of "winning" too. Assuming I get started on it one of these days. Some time within the next two weeks looks promising.

  2. Dude fuck youtube. Keep in touch as the project develops and we'll make sure that the video gets a slightly more reliable consistent home.

We have a better hosting solution? =D Then I guess that settles everything.

Waaaait no it doesn't... We still need to figure out the whole title situation. Well, I've already said more than I needed to :nicework:

And I can't promise there will be a monkey flip, but I will try :3

  3. Ah, I think we're talking about two different things; the title I want to show in the intro is ONLY the video's title, and is displayed in a very (very) stylized fashion and takes up most of the screen. You'll see what I mean ;)

If we require an additional "music video"-style title/song name/artist in the corner, that's fine by me too.

I think any/all credit titling should be done by the organizer of the finished video set... that way they can all be formatted the same.

From my experience, that will only end horribly. I estimate it will take me about 3 tries to upload the video to youtube with the following qualifications met:

    - video/sound sync not completely ruined

    - sound is in stereo

    - small words are readable

    - small sprites are sufficiently visible

    - colours are in-tact

Although, it's been a year since I've experienced a problem with these... it's possible youtube has fixed these issues by now, but I really doubt it, considering their complete failure to even acknowledge the problems (or the complaints and questions about them) last time I checked. Which, again, was a year ago, so who knows =p

On that note, we'll have to figure out how to title the videos themselves (i.e. the title that is displayed above the video), and whether or not that title may include "Monkey Flip Mania".

Also, I've completely ruled out uploading my video to Newgrounds, so nobody will have to worry about that ^_^

  4. I haven't started yet, but I'm also wondering about the alternate title thing. My video would certainly benefit from an alternate title... in fact, without a title some viewers might not "get" it right away, or at all...

...Whether the title thing is official or not, I plan to show the title during the intro.

  5. Once I got the hang of it, I found myself frustrated by some annoying problems that aren't in normal Tetris (besides the obvious)...

    1) When the block is up against the wall, sometimes you can't rotate it. That threw me off enough times to cause some premature game-overs.

    2) I did not appreciate how the key-repeat worked when moving blocks... often it would move the block one-too-many spaces, or not enough spaces... totally threw me off constantly, even when the screen is upright.

Fun gimmick, but the lack of polish killed it for me

    [Edit]

    *$#%!!

I've never played a game that's so simultaneously annoying and addictive. Damn you line blocks! I don't even want you anymore!!!

I swear those blocks don't end up in the correct column when you rotate them.

  6. I'm pretty surprised that halc got as few votes as he did. I mean, the song was short, but it was really solid, and I would have voted for it if I hadn't forgotten to vote. I hope you get to make a longer version of it halc!!

Just btw - it's very unlikely I'll be participating in the losers brackets if it occurs the week after next. 2 exams, last one on Thursday. I'll try and get something in, but it won't be up to scratch (not that my first one was evidently :x).

Aww, I really liked yours too. (Although, I also really liked Sixto's ;-)) Well, nothing you can do about exams...

  7. I tend to be overly aggressive, and always want to do the big awesome high-damage epic moves.

I like the rail gun in Quake even though I usually miss. And when I want to win, I use the rocket launcher.

Nothing beats a good Yoshi down-aerial foot-mauling in Smash Bros. I'm also a fan of many smashes, the Falcon Paaaawnch, and the knee.

And hard-to-escape combos that result in a lot of damage... actually anything that results in a lot of damage. Why Hadouken when you can just press "strong kick" and "strong punch" over and over again?

    This picture comes to mind:

  8. Great stuff so far! This was clearly an amazing idea. Almost makes me sad to have to vote against certain songs :nicework:

When the voting is over, would it be inappropriate to... display the voting results in the first post... via images of health bars?? Each "pixel" or "bar" could represent 1 vote more than the other guy =P

Or, 51% of the vote could leave the winner with 2% of their health left, 60% leaves them with 20%, etc.

Haha, what a bad idea

  9. I was wondering who "Kyle" was, but then I noticed that 95% of the text in the thread belongs to the same person

I have no ideas for what to do yet - time to bust out the Russian ReMix Roulette!

... or, just go through all my favourite games' mixes - I'm assuming the picture needs to have something to do with the game the song is from, right?

If I manage to find the time, I might try and draw the steampunk Samus I wanted to draw last time. (But not to enter it of course)

  10. Hey, coming up with feasible music-video ideas can be hard when you're.... not LAOS. :nicework:

I definitely wouldn't want people doing multiple videos for the same song, but having assigned songs and/or a limited pool... actually I'd rather have it open to all OC Remixes no matter what.

Anyone who can't find a song can try the Russian ReMix Roulette

What I suggest is we encourage people to post remixes they'd like to see video'd, and video-ers can pick them if they want to. But you'd have to say so if you're picking a song that was requested in the thread... or else two people might end up doing the same song.

As for the progress on my video... none yet, but I'm once again feeling that I WON'T have to shorten the song.

  11. Absolutely. As long as you have a video to show in March, I don't care if you started it in the mid 1800s :-o

Great! I have no idea whether I can finish it or not in the time span - but I'll try and get the good parts finished first, and maybe think up some filler material that's significantly faster to make but still not boring. It's a long-ish song, but I don't want to cut any of it out ;)

I'm glad the contest is as open as it is - if videos aren't required to have anything to do with the games the original songs are from, maybe we'll see amateur entrants producing stuff that's more creative than just video game montages... but well-made video game montages are good too =)

  12. I'd send a PM, but others might have a similar question too:

If I started making a music video using an OC Remix several years ago, but only completed the first 20 seconds or so of it, can I finish the other 80-90% and submit it? If it's a grey area, I can PM you a Flash file of what I've got so far, and describe what I plan to add.

    [Edit]

I'm also very curious whether the full remix (unedited) needs to be included.
