  1. Made a new original song, which sounds pretty videogameish. Inspired by black mages, music from silent hill 2 and some old castlevania tunes. I think it turned out to be some kind of a bossbattle/final battle song. Would be cool to recieve some feedback. (And yeah, B4 II was used for the organs ) http://jimmyem.googlepages.com/Cyan_-_The_Decisive_Clash_V2.mp3 (update: fixed some parts where the organ was a bit too loud)
  2. I've been working on this for a month now, it has progressed slowly, but today I decided to make it a sort of public WIP to gain some feedback. Genre is electronica, with some DnB stuff. I used mostly the Cave theme, but incorpated a bassline from the Factory theme as well. Oh, and the game is Donkey Kong Country 3 by the way. Originals: http://jimmyem.googlepages.com/DDT-Factory.spc http://jimmyem.googlepages.com/DDT-Cave.spc REMIX: http://jimmyem.googlepages.com/Cyan_DKC3_Caves_WIP.mp3 Note that this is about 70-80% finished. I know the intro is mixed a bit to loud, and I haven't paid to much attention to the overall mixing yet... It has to be a real ending as well... Feedback please!
  3. Yeah! We need more country-remixes. Haha. No, seriously, this is good. I love country. I really enjoy when the songs gets going around 0:50.
  4. I checked out SynthEdit some months ago, and got to say it's cool since you learn the basics in how a modular-synthesizer works. Didn't got time to explore it further though, since it is (like analoq mentioned) very time-consuming.
  5. Hey, on a sidenote, I really like analoq's take on this one which was on the S2 projekt. That one IS synth-goodness. <3
  6. Yeah, this needs more variation in general. It could use more synthleads to switch between. Also changing the rythm in some places would do, as the song sounds pretty similiar all the way through. Again, this needs more variation in the sounds used. I Think it sounds a bit more like a wip, it's enjoyable, but not there yet.
  7. Question: Is there a way the FL stepsequenser can do triplets? (yeah, the sequenser, not the pianoroll)
  8. "Say you want the bass drum's bass levels to decrease when the bass guitar is there. Is there a good compression tactic for that or is it better to EQ paint that by hand?" Sidechaining could be very useful in this case. It's often the other way around, though; you want the bass to reduce in volume when the kick punches in. Sidechaining lets you do this, usually it's one compressor on the bass track, which is triggered by the kick, and reduces the volume of the bass. There are different ways to set up sidechaining depending on what program you use. In Reason, this is quite easy. Cubase is a bit more tricky if you ain't got the right plugs.
  9. Not a bad idea Programs * Reason 3 * Cubase SX 3 Hardware * Electron Monomachine * Roland Digital piano FP3 Softsynths/VST Instruments * Arturia Minimoog, Moog Modular * Spectrasonics Stylus, Trilogy and Atmosphere * Korg Legacy Collection * Kontakt 2 Keyboard/controllers * M-Audio Oxygen 8 Keyboard/Midi-controller * Korg ms20 midi-controller (looks almost like a real ms20!) Studio Gear * Event TR5 Active Monitors * Seenheizer HD 212 Pro Headphones * ESI Juli@ audiocard Other * A cheap acoustic guitar with one string missing ... And maybe some stuff I forgot about for the moment...
  10. Well, i would suggest learning to play as much (different) songs as possible. Both gamemusic (midi) and "real" music (use sheetmusic and/or tabs) will do. I suggest you listen to very much music as well. Since the electronica-genre is quite big, there should be a lot of stuff to explore. This is at least what works best for me. When I'm creating original-music, the inspiration comes from something I've listened to or/and recently played myself. Sometimes it's a whole bunch of stuff throwed together, which mixed up, makes my own song. If you listen to a whole bunch of different music, you can't really tell where the inspiration comes from, it's just there. Also, being a band-member is a GREAT way to get inspiration. Don't think I need to explain why. I play piano/keyboard/synth in a pop/rock band, and I'm makin my own electronic music as well, it works really good.
  11. I'm thinking of buying a new modercard and a new CPU. But I don't know which CPU. My budget is around $400 - 450... Is Dual Core worth the cash? My main gear is Cubase SX, reason (mostly in rewire mode), a bunch of softsynths, softsamplers, VST-effects + some line-in instruments.
  12. Sounds like a pure sinewav to me, with a little bit of portamento going on, I think.
  13. Hrm? I assume you forgot about Herbie Hancock. He's like the god of jazzpiano...
  14. Wtf. A S3&K Remix project ... I was looking around on the forums, and found this just recently. I'm very interested in this project and hope I can do something for you. Actually, I have been working on a remix of Sandopolis, not knowing anything about the project. (To bad that so many good remixers already are working on that track...) I don't know what you think about new people to join the project this late ... but if you're interested I can come up with some songs on "Boss 1", (which was apparently marked as free att the front page), "Death egg" and "Hidden Palace".
  15. Ok, this is MY own opinions of this DK-album. Please don't eat me. Well, this is good. I have been listening to the tracks for some days now, and I thought that the jazzy ones were the best. But I think that the level of quality is very different. "One Zero One" is not bad by any means, but it did sound kinda "simple techno/trance" When you just listened to some great jazz and other stuff played by real instruments. (Yes ofcourse, this depends on what kind of music you're into. But that's anyhow my opinion) It's not only this song though, "Echoes" and "Chekan Winter" falls in the same kategory. I know there are some other techno/trance influed tracks on the album, like Protricity's "Mine Cart Misadventure", but for some reason I enjoyed them more. "Rest and (Re)spite on a Soft Summer Night" is good, but would have been much better without the drum part. "Aerofunknamics" is very similar to the original, and too repetive. However, there are many great tracks. "Swing, Monkey, Swing", "Arboreal Ascent" and "West Coast DK Island" are all great jazzy songs I really enjoy. "Cry of the Chasmal Critter Chain" is totally awesome and in my opinion even better than the original one. Very nice sounds. "Beneath the Surface" is good. The original is one of the best gamesongs ever made, and this arrangement is, well, good. I really like the guitar, though the sax is'nt perfect. Nice that you could hear a part Frogs Theme and Kraid in the end. "Funky Monkey Love" is ok, but would have been much better without that terrible singing. (Hrm ... I see some of you here have already mentioned that .. hrm.) "Machina Anesthesia" is very different, which I really appreciate. It's a song they normally speeds up and techno the hell out of. But again, GrayLightning has made something different. It's not the best song on the album, but the arrangement is interesting. "dolilop do wop" is a nice track, with a enjoyable vibe going on. I didn't like the original so much, but this is good. The three last songs are all good, and I really like the pianointro, followed by the rock-version of Gang-Plank Galleon. Protricity's arrangement of the ending theme is not my style, but anyway pretty enjoyable. Overall, it's a great job you guys did. I will be waiting for the remake of Dkc2, which I hope to come in the future.
