  1. there's a couple more like this. search for "VGA 85" and you'll see a bunch of overpriced crap.

Well yeah, because you're searching for near-mint items, which can be expensive enough as it is for some games. Being rated by the Video Game Authority will only increase their price.

That said, there probably are some legit overpriced items on there, as I'm sure some beginner collectors will pay a premium just because it's in a fancy acrylic case with a high number on it regardless of the games actual worth.

  2. And I thought this Ardy Lightfoot auction was expensive. But I guess reading up on this game, it's no surprise its much more valuable.

Out of all the commercially sold NES games, Stadium Events is the most rare and in most cases the most realistic goal of NES collectors. What makes this otherwise standard game so rare, is that just after its release, it was recalled.

    ...

But Stadium Events, the original anomaly, had snuck out in ever so limited numbers. 2000 copies is believed to have been the total distribution tally, but doesn’t consider how many of those were sold prior to Nintendo’s recall. Some have suggested that no more than 200 actually made it into NES owners’ homes.

  3. I'm in the extreme minority, but I found Unleashed pretty fun, even the night time levels and the dreaded Eggmanland. Wouldn't pay more than $15 for it though.

On the Sonic 4 front, the level designers for S3&K are on board working with Dimps

Yes, Dimps is working on the game. But there’s actually more to it than just that: at the same time, we also have members of Sonic Team, including the original senior level designer from Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the SEGA Genesis working alongside them. It is most definitely a partnership, and the result of this teamwork is something many of us are excited for.

  4. That's not to say that the artists can't prototype for themselves... but it's retarded to build levels when you don't even know how far your main character can jump.

That's why I said you don't even know how much of the level is completed. For all we know, they just tossed a couple random level elements to test out the physics engine. Why not use the assets they already have (near?) completed so they can test how it all looks at the same time?

  5. Keep in mind we don't know when that video was taken or how much of the level is complete. For all we know, it's a really early build and the dude's been sitting on it for a while before releasing it. Whining that they're designing levels before the physics engine is perfected is pretty dumb. Would you rather have all the artists sit around twiddling their thumbs waiting for the programmers to finish their job?

  6. Well, here's our first genuine surprise since the official reveal of Sonic 4: Sega, and its cherished Sonic Team studio, isn't developing the game.

Instead, Osaka-based Dimps will be. Best known for their recent work on Street Fighter IV with Capcom (and also for its work on Dragonball Z's cartoon fighters), Dimps will also be known to Sonic fans as the developers behind games like Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance

Those titles are among the best Sonic games in recent memory, showing that while the blue hedgehog continued to blunder through ill-suited 3D environments, there was still life in the concept of a fast, 2D Sonic game.

Meaning this is a rare example of smart thinking by Sega Japan, realising that if this game had any chance of success whatsoever, it was best to put it in the hands of somebody not only experienced at decent 2D Sonic games, but who also did not have "Sonic Team" on their business cards.

  7. If you accept calling Dr. Robotnik as "Eggman" because it was his original Japanese name, then you must also accept that Ozzie, Flea, and Slash in Chrono Trigger are called Vinegar, Soysau, and Mayonnai.

I accept it as Eggman because character names don't matter at all. As long as we don't get creepy ass Eggbotnik from Sonik 2K6, it's all good.

I swear, 2D sonic fans are worse than the 3D bunch. At least the newer bunch can be hilarious in their depravity. The older dudes are just annoying and never satisfied with anything.

  8. I dunno, like I said earlier, I'd prefer a nastier version of the Death Egg over another Metal Sonic any day.

After all, we've already seen Metal Sonic AS AN OVER THE TOP FINAL BOSS already...

Yeah, but I'm not talking about a giant fuck you boss, just a normal sized one for Sonic to fight/race against. Maybe as a semifinal boss in a new Death Egg.

A brand new Robosonic would be preferable, but if they're just gonna reuse an old design, I prefer the one from S3&K than the Sonic CD design.

  9. So it seems you can access the intro (countdown right above "News") on the site by hitting tab and pressing enter once it's highlighted

    Story thus far:

It began as Sonic’s animal friends begin disappearing from South Island. Soon Sonic discovers that evil scientist Dr. Eggman has been kidnapping them and turning them into robots to collect the legendary treasure – The Chaos Emeralds. Sonic decides it’s up to him to save them and embarks on a quest to free his animal friends. Sonic battles Eggman through many different zones. Sonic eventually pursues Eggman to Final Zone where the first in many epic battles between them begins. In the end Sonic is victorious and Eggman’s Mecha fly’s away badly damaged. Sonic returns to Green Hill Zone and re-unites with his friends.

Their reunion is short lived however, as Eggman resurfaces and begins kidnapping Sonic friends again, in an effort to create more workers to finish his ultimate Weapon – The Death Egg! Teaming up with the newly met, Miles ‘Tails’ Prower, Sonic embarks on a new mission through West Side Island in an effort to free his friends and ensure Eggman does not obtain the 7 Chaos emeralds to fuel the Death Egg.

Once the West Side Island is freed, Sonic and Tails eventually board the Tornado and assault the Death Egg itself. After destroying Mecha Sonic, Eggman flees and enters his new Eggman Robot attacking Sonic! After a heated battle Sonic destroys the Eggman Robot and the Death Egg begins to explode.

Sonic and Tails fly down and come across mysterious island called Angel Island. This island is floating by the power of the precious stone called Master Emerald, but now this mysterious island are dropping down to the ocean surface because the Death Egg had been falling on this island. Sonic and Tails are attacked by a Red Echidna named Knuckles the guardian of the island.

Knuckles steals the Chaos emeralds from Sonic, being tricked by Eggman that he is an enemy come to take the Master Emerald. While Sonic and Tails are entangled by Knuckles, Eggman repairs the Death Egg and preps it for launch.

Sonic manages to jump on Death Egg just as it’s flying off. After confronting Eggman on the Death Egg, Sonic defeats Eggman once more and the Death Egg plummets back to Angel Island.

Back on the ground Dr. Eggman begins the repairing Death Egg again. Feeling Knuckles has served his purpose, he sends EggRobo to eliminate this potential threat. EggRobo finds Knuckles relaxing in Mushroom Zone and drops a bomb on him but Knuckles manages to survive. Enraged, the Wild Echidna sets off to defeat EggRobo. Meanwhile Sonic and Tails explore the island to find traces of the Death Egg and find out Eggman’s fate. After and Epic showdown between Sonic and Knuckles, Eggman uses the opportunity to finally steal the Master Emerald and re-launches the Death Egg. With the power of the emeralds, Sonic goes after Eggman, who has taken the Master Emerald into space.

Sonic and Tails secure the Master Emerald and return it to Knuckles on Angel Island. With it’s power restored, the Angel Island lifts off into the sky as Sonic and Tails fly off into the sunset.

But this humiliating defeat only serves to further Eggman’s rage, and he has determined once and for all to rid himself of Sonic. Eggman revisits – and improves – the very best of his creations to defeat our spiked hero.

And so a new Adventure begins…

Hope this means a new Metal Sonic, though I'd be happy if they just reused the one from S3&K.
