battle.net is free and it doesn't suck. brawl giving you almost no control over options in an online match and not even letting you see who you're playing against isn't justified by the fact that the online is free. it's just nintendo being gay.i don't get why so many people can't live with people pointing out how brawl's online sucks. nobody's trying to say the game on a whole sucks because of it. brawl will still be amazing, it's just too bad that the online is total garbage, when it could easily be a lot better.

hmmm i should work on getting one of those next
-
haha i remember those days btw atma i just finished 3604free and got $350! i would have got the actual 360 but where i live right now, online gaming is impossible so it wouldn't be as useful. i'll probably get one later though
-
Isn’t that simple? You don’t have to trouble with any settings. However, if you do want to go through settings, you can. Just kidding! We're still gay; don't worry.
-
well idk i'd add you as a friend but i mean i dont know you in person so i don't want to risk losing personal information to a stranger and all that bad stuff, you know? MAN IT'S GOOD TO KNOW IM SAFE

we only ban things to make people who don't go to tourneys mad. i mean heck, you guys think people get together from all over the country to actually play smash bros? ha, we just get in a big circle and laugh about how angry we're making everyone. then at a certain point in the "tournament," the best part happens. we have people stand up on a stage and nominate new things to ban in future tournaments, for the sole reason of making people mad. people vote on which ones to ban, but usually we just go ahead and ban everything that was nominated because we are PURE EVIL, AH HA HA. WE REVOLVE AROUND PEOPLE WHO DON'T PLAY COMPETITIVELY; WE ONLY EXIST TO PISS THEM OFF.

giggida-HEEEYY, KIDS! NOW IM GONNA TELL YOU A LITTLE SOMETHIN' ABOUT GLITCHES. KIDS, THERE'S NOTHING MORE COOL THAN PLAYIN' SOME GOOD OLD SMASH BROTHERS. BUT IF SOMEONE TRIES TO GLITCH YOU IN SMASH BROTHERS, THAT'S NO GOOD. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO GLITCH YOU IF YOU DONT WANT THEM TO. NOW IM GOING TO TALK ABOUT A PARTICULARLY NASTY LITTLE BUGGER KNOWN AS "L-CANCELLING." THIS IS A MOVE THAT WAS COMPLETELY UNINTENDED BY THE DEVELOPERS AND IS ACTUALLY RUMORED TO BE PUT IN THE GAME BY HACKERS. IT ALLOWS THE USER TO DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING, SOMETIMES ALL AT THE SAME TIME: -MAKE YOUR LITTLE GUY MOVE FASTER -TURN INVINCIBLE -GO BACK IN TIME -GAIN A STOCK -CALL OTHER CHARACTERS TO AID THE USER AGAINST HIS VICTIM -TAUNT AND ADDITIONALLY, IT MAKES LINK EVEN MORE BROKEN. THINK L-CANCELLING'S BAD? TUNE IN NEXT WEEK WHEN WE'LL COVER THE REALLY BAD GLITCHES: "WAVEDASHING," AND "MINDGAMES."

DUDE, NESS? i love that little guy like when you're shielding and someone hits you, and you wavedash out of shield back at them while grabbing or jabbing or uptilting. it looks like when a magnet flies into another magnet, it's so cool.

i get what you mean, but just having options isn't going to ruin anything. right now from what i understand, you go into the spectator mode and it automatically sets you up with a match to watch. but it wouldn't ruin it for anyone to just have it so that you go into spectator mode, and then you can choose to either have a match set up automatically, or find one that you want to watch. this goes for ALL the features they're throwing in that could be a lot better - WOULD be a lot better, if they didn't go out of their way to make it so you have no options at all. think about all the options you have for setting up a match in melee. anyone who's never even played before can just go to melee, select a character and hit start and be playing with all the default options. but, for people who want to change the options, you have the CHOICE to go to options and change stuff to your liking. does this ruin it for people who just want to start up a match without any care for what options are set? nope, because they don't have to bother with the options if they don't want to. i can definitely see how this feature is useful for people who are just starting the game. they wouldn't care about finding certain people to watch; just watching any people who at least know the basics of the game can give them an idea of how the game is played. but other than that, it's just what atma said. who's gonna sit around and watch completely anonymous and random matches? sure this feature's great for beginners, but uh...that's it. it wouldn't cost them anything to just flat-out make this feature a whole lot better. edit, to make a long story short. sure nintendo is getting it right at being welcoming to brand new players, like that dude's girlfriend for example. but it seems like for the most part, they're neglecting the other people, when they could easily make things good for both.
-
man, they keep putting in features where the concept is really cool, but they have to go out of their way to dumb it down just in case a frikken baby wants to play the game, because nintendo has to make games that cater to EVERYONE. why can't they just have a little thing that says "if you're a frikken baby and want us to handle all options and change your diapers for you, check this box. if you think you can handle a few OPTIONS and use these features to their full potential, check this one."

I give tactics advance the thumbs up. i never got around to finishing it but reading this thread made me remember that it was pretty cool. never played tactics for ps1 yet though, but almost everyone says it's better.

NICE! wow, azen's going? man that's going to be awesome tell pkmvodka i said hi if you see him! he inspired me to pick up dk. it's too bad chesterr's not going with the rest of their crew though. AWW SHIT BUM'S GOING, HIM AND PKM BETTER HAVE AN EPIC DK MATCH have fun, man i wish so bad i could go to that also at tournaments that big, pretty much every pool has one really good person in it. so you're pretty much going to get your ass kicked by whoever that really good person is, so i say you're lucky to have a tournament match with m2k; he's probably the best player in the world right now, and is really really innovative and unique. just the way he moves with marth is like nobody else. i wish i could get to play him some more anyway HAVE FUN

i called this like 2 years ago, and always argued with people that it would WORK PERFECTLY. but NO. holy wow it looks awesome edit "And I’m happy that this is compatible with SD cards. You don’t have to worry about size, so make as many stages as you like." i hope they change their mindset on replays to this

the wii sucks

too bad the dk/diddy one only lasted a couple days, that was my favorite

nintendo has their stuff that makes them cool, but you have to admit that nintendo fucking sucks in the online department. they could easily add options but they have to keep it as simple as possible, even though it doesn't take a computer geek to figure out how to start an online match on something with options like xbox live or battle.net and they're paranoid about ANY exchange of information with strangers for some reason. you can't even read each other's TAUNTS. it's too bad nintendo has to make their stuff friendly to retarded babies or something. and why wouldn't they just let you choose to record more than 3 minutes if you wanted to? it's your space, you should be able to choose how you want to manage it. hell they could just make the default option set to the 3 minute limit or whatever and then give options to change stuff for people who want them, but they have to keep it as absolutely simple as possible for some reason.
-
still though, replays take up barely anything because it's just recording what buttons were pressed when. im pretty sure they will put an option in to somehow record standard matches because it would be retarded not to.
-
haha cool, i've never played MvC2 but i've heard all about it. people on SRK call smash "mvc junior" anyway as someone said, yeah it would be stupid of the developers to make the next brawl only to cater to the competitive gamers. we're like 2% of the people who are going to buy the game. in melee they managed to make it awesome for both though, but in brawl it looks like they might be ignoring competitive play altogether. yes, it's too early to tell though.

i know this is late but i just want this clarified why not? the whole point of banning things is to regulate what you can and can't use. everything allowed can be used, and one of the main things about playing a game competitively is learning for yourself to make the very best of your options.i didn't discover wavedashing for myself, but i have discovered a few little things with my characters after thinking logically about how things work in the game and with lots of experience, and that's a really cool feeling. it feels a lot cooler than simply leveling up in a game like WoW, where you get better by logging more hours in the game. playing a game competitively like this, you get better by learning and thinking. the only limit to how fast you can learn is yourself. i dunno, i find it pretty fun. also, exploiting is FUN, people (don't take this quote out of context please). get the negative connotations of the word "exploit" out of your head or use a different word if you have to, but exploiting is necessary even for casual players. if you never exploited anything, than you wouldn't be any better than you were the first time you played the game. in smash, you and your opponents start with the exact same options, and the winner is determined by who can use these options better. if you can figure out how to use something in a new and useful way, exploit that shit. obviously broken tactics and glitches are bound to come about, and that's why things are banned. if it isn't banned, it's fair game to use.

i just hate that there are thousands and thousands of people who post on the site but otherwise aren't actually a part of the competitive smash community, which is just a handful of several hundred people. and everyone sees what these people say and think it reflects the hardcore smashers' opinions. this is what brings up shit like the ED article "tourneyfag", although the final destination meme is hilarious even though most pros dont even like final destination lolz

so does anyone play guilty gear? i just bought the new one that just came out for ps2, but i wont be able to play it for a few days. wish me luck at smashfest:eugene tomorrow
