OCR01918 - Xenogears "Zeno Paradox"
Catharsis replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
From Kodo? Because it sounds just like a part in "Lion". -
OCR01919 - Xenogears "When the Smoke Clears"
Catharsis replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love this song. Sorry, I could say a lot of stuff, but it'd just all sound weird. I'll just say it brings back memories of living in the lower Alps in Switzerland six years ago. Some of the most interesting life experiences and lessons happened there during three-and-a-half months. -
Main Theme of Final Fantasy IV Solo Piano
Catharsis replied to Sam Ascher-Weiss's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I think I like this more than the on the FFIV Piano soundtrack. At least, it's good in it's own way. -
I like this overall, but when the drums start to hit at 2:04, I really thought it was going to lead up to really opening up, but when the drums really start, they feel held back and/or muffled to me. If that's the effect you're going for, it's good. Maybe it's just a personal taste thing, but I think it'd sound better if you opened them up more. They feel "confined". (I just can't hit the world I'm looking for.)

Chrono Trigger - Magus/Manoria: Orchestrated (Submitted)
Catharsis replied to kage49's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I was secretly hoping this battle would be orchestrated one day. I like this. -
It sound like the flute is trying to do too much in a couple places, like 1:52. Also, 5:20 might be a little long for this song. Those two things aside, I really like this. Maybe a little (just a little) harder hitting drums?

I really like this so far, but I think I like it for its own sake, and not for the source. Having played SoM a LOT growing up, I'd have to agree with some of the early comments in that it does take away from the original some. Also, I hear Deus Ex a lot, too.

Chrono Trigger - Manoria Cathedral ReMix
Catharsis replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
You responded!!! Five minutes is too short. Ten minutes is too short. I'm the wrong person to ask. However, I'm sure whatever closure you put on it, as long as it's along the same inspirational vein that this came from, will be good. -
Chrono Trigger - Manoria Cathedral ReMix
Catharsis replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Just thought I'd throw out another "Hurry up and finish this". This is still my number one favorite on the entire site, and it's not even complete. This is seriously the best remix I have ever heard in my life. -
OCRA-0015 - Xenogears: Humans + Gears
Catharsis replied to avaris's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
I'm totally flipping out right now. I had no idea an album was even being worked on for this. This was one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) RPGs ever. I also loved the music. On top of that, I was just thinking the other night, "What would be a good album for OC Remix to do next?" I check the site today to find this, and flipped out. I've only listened to two tracks, but I'm loving it so far. -
OCR01910 - Chrono Cross "Through Time and Space"
Catharsis replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is fantastic and lovely. The original song has long been one of my favorites in all of video game-dom, and I've never understood why it hasn't received more remixes. Therefore, I'm doubly glad since you did an excellent job on it. Kudos. For anyone considering future remixes, please do. -
OCR01453 - Chrono Trigger "Black Wind Rising"

I haven't posted in a while, but I had to get on to say this is great. I'm not sure how I never noticed this one before. -

Just rediscovered this. Seriously, this needs to be finished. My favorite on this site, and it's not even done. -
OCR01859 - Final Fantasy IX "The Rose General"
Catharsis replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Seriously? Seriously?! This is amazing. I'm immediately checking out her other songs. This is simply unbelievable. -
I completely understand that, however, that wasn't all that he said. He made an absolute claim that was beyond OCR's "turf" when he said: If he is representative of OCR, then OCR is reaching beyond its own turf and making universal claims. This is what I was addressing. However, if you are saying that is the official, iron-clad position of OCR, then OK -- no point in talking about it here. Why is the first reaction of so many people to say this? Who was imposing anything? In fact, OCR is imposing rules on music submissions, but everyone seems OK with that. Are you going to say this to them? Also, where are you getting all these "rights" from anyway? Where are they written down? I've never read them anywhere. Oh, nevermind. I don't have the energy to continue all of this.

djpretzel, First off, let me say I have been visiting this site on and off for several years, and I love the community of musicians that have expressed the creativity they possess. As for the subject at hand... It is a little comforting to know that I am not the only one that sent in an e-mail when I saw the title. I must adamantly disagree with your (and I guess, therefore, OC Remix's) position on this. I'd simply like to reword what you have said to show that your definitition of intolerance in entirely subjective. For example, what if I were to say... In this situation, that set of expectations and beliefs is that using Jesus Christ, niggaz, etc. is OK to use flippantly and however one would like, and I don't care if it offends anyone or blasphemes anyone or anything. So, there is "intolerance" all around, and the intolerance we're speaking of is entirely subjective and relative. There WILL BE intolerance in life. It is unavoidable AND necessary. If there were no intolerance, we would have no laws, murder would be OK with no consequence, etc. I am all for open discussion, debate, etc. That is entirely different than satire or parody. Your lumping together "satire and parody" and "certain forms of analysis & questioning" is not helpful. They are not the same. Satire and parody care nothing for inquiry, debate, and the like. They only seek to make light of something and/or mock it. Do I believe in Mohammed? No. Do I understand the rioting and reaction? Yes. Even if someone is a post-modernist, they still understand what "sacred" and "holy" mean to a certain degree. Everyone has something or someone that is holy (specially important and set apart) to them. It is not wise to quickly trample all over that, even if they are wrong. That is a hateful thing to do.

So yeah...the torrent link is broken. Anyone got another one? -
OCR00889 - Chrono Trigger "Spekkio the Brave"

I think I just listened to this for the first time, and I love it! So creative! -
OCR01838 - Portal "Live from [SUBJECT HOMETOWN HERE]"
Catharsis replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
That was great! Although, if it weren't live, I would think it would be considered too low quality to pass. I love it, though. BTW, they have this song for Rock Band 2. My roommate had people over playing it, and I heard him sing this. It was hilarious. -

Epic Traveling Music - Any suggestions?
Catharsis replied to Catharsis's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, that one is good, though remix quality would be better. -

Cool, then as soon as I get the retail version in the mail, I'll probably be sending one of the officers an invite request (or whatever you call it in the WoW universe). -
Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption - History
Catharsis replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Projects
That wall seemed like it moved pretty fast for me, but that's probably because it was my first RPG that I REALLY enjoyed, and made me a fan of RPGs ever since. Now, when I go back to play that one, you're right, the wall is pretty easily slaughterable (is that a word?). -
Cool. This song rules.

World of Warcraft Guild for the Arrangement Community
Catharsis replied to starla's topic in General Discussion
My roommate just did the Recruit-A-Friend with me. I'm new to WoW, but I've played on a few trial accounts, and even messed around with a lot of the popular AddOns. I take it this guild isn't just for experienced people, since the Recruit-A-Friend was mentioned in the beginning. The way people talk on here, though, indicates that everyone is quite experienced. I wouldn't play primarily on Illidan, either. Am I still eligible?
