  1. So we are going to be Rocking the one and only MAGFest 12 in less than a month, with our new, sweet-as-molasses EP in tow! You will be able to buy it! :o

    1476546_621724794551644_242838160_n.png

Featuring 6 of our most popular songs, mixed and mastered by the one and only DJ Zircon, this is required listening for all students at the university. If you are doing a training montage, this is the perfect music for it, and if you are not doing a training montage, this will inspire you to BE THE BEST!

Can you guess what songs are on there?

Updated OP with info. Also I listened to the whole EP twice on the way to work today and it sounded GREAT.

  2. 2/10 would not eat

Looks like you sacrificed meal quality for the sake of making a logo. Is that really what OCR is about? Is that the message you want to send out with this CD? That we can't even remix a freakin' pancake without destroying it?

You have no idea how hard it is to make an EDIBLE pancake that is also that size and shape and have it remain intact from pan to plate without burning it.

Seriously, it took a lot to get that thing good.

Also the bonus is that the back cover is a picture of me eating this in all its gross glory.

So basically what I'm saying is that OCR is about me eating pancakes.

No, in all seriousness, this cover was meant to do two things: 1) satirize the Brink of Time cover in a way that makes it relevant to what we do here at OCR, and 2) have a good bit of fun while still remaining classy. We take individual ingredients used to make one thing and use it to make something else entirely, which we then distribute and devour. And it tastes oh so very very good.

  3. Aww, damnit. I should have posted that we went with something internally. My wife and I actually hosted a photoshoot involving some breakfast and it turned out great (Thanks to Larry's suggestion).

I've been super busy and haven't had a lot of time to check my PMs here, but I like what you did with this, Cherna. Rest assured that we're not stopping just at volume one so keep that image handy for volume two! And anyone else who wants to do one can feel free to do so, but for the volume one we've already got our images :)

  4. I honestly thought Wildfire had been an officially posted mixer up until this point. The fact that she wasn't means this has certainly been a long time coming, as far as i'm concerned.

And well deserved it is, Beth. This is brilliant work from you! :)

She was official before, but not as the main arranger of a song. She was featured on Brandon Strader's Zelda mix, Bottled Choir.

This is her getting on the site on her own writing, arrangement, and mixing prowess, which is the major achievement. Anybody can lend their flute or voice or fart to a ReMix that gets posted and be listed, because anyone who contributes gets credited.

This means Beth's e-penis has level'd up. Go her. It was a pleasure working on this with her and I absolutely love the result.

  5. The entire game music rip area is full of gray. I look at it in the following perspective:

If a game has an officially release music package, you should buy it instead of getting a rip. (Example: Bastion)

If an official release doesn't have a particular song you want from the game, get the release and then a rip of just that song. (Example: Final Fantasy Tactics)

If a music package doesn't exist and a music rip does exist, get the rip. (Example: Smart Ball)

If a music package doesn't exist AND there's no rip, rip it yourself (Example: House of the Dead: Overkill).

Owning the game and then getting the music from it was how a lot of us got our start listening to VGM. Just taking the tape recorder to the tv output. However, if you can actually buy the music and support the musicians responsible for it, you should definitely do that.

  6. You kids and your "5 IVs"... that's so cute.

Meanwhile, my 3rd Gen Aerodactly with 6 IVs of 31, and the right nature, and bred moves, says hi.

And my other six 31/31/31/31/31/31 pokes as well.

Sadly, none of them are really meant for competitive battling because they're favorites, but still.

I was really just offering because I need to empty some boxes and figured some other people would possibly like them :)

Your epeen. I can't rival it.

  7. My Eugenics program is coming along very smoothly. I now have an abundance of the following 5IV Pokermans:

    Gible

Fletchling (Talonflame is amazing for Fly/Flame Body to keep you in fighting order even when trying to hatch eggs.)

    Absol

    Larvitar

    Magikarp

    Dratini

Gonna be working on Flabebe and Eevee's next.

Let me know if any of y'all are interested in some fighting 'mon.

  8. Step 1: Breed Absol to the point where you can have a team of 5-6 IV's knowing Thunder Wave and False Swipe.

Step 2: Farm Mirby's Friend Safari for Dittos using said team until you get a 5-6 IV Ditto.

Step 3: Start a perfect IV breeding empire, charging money to competitive Pokemon players a la Chinese WoW gold farmers.

No, seriously, the Absol team is ridiculously helpful since it reduces the time spent having to go back to the Pokecenter to heal/refill PP if you only use one catcher Pokemon.

  9. Speaking of Pokemon-Amie, I discovered that you can make faces at your pokemon. Not sure if it requires max happiness or if it's before, when you reach the later stages of it. I was waiting for the tires on my car to be changed, and my Gyarados and I would make kissy faces, wink and make big smiles to each other. Then someone walked by with a "the hell is that chick on?" face as I was trying to cock my head to the side like a puppy and kissing at my 3DS.

I fuckin' love Gyarados omg <3

Edit: To add to the Pokemon-Amie explanation, the first thing you'll notice is the boost in exp the pokemon gains as it gets friendlier towards you. Then not only will it wish it had landed a critical hit or avoid attack, they'll get the equivalent of a Sturdy/Endure effect to prove its love to you and they will also sometimes cure themselves of status effects. To save some time, you can pet it at the end of a battle (as the final enemy falls unconscious) for some extra love.

This explains some of the stares you were getting when I dropped by the lounge at the dealer today then, I guess...

I just can't take you anywhere, can I? Or rather, you just can't take yourself anywhere, can you?

I wonder if the 3DS can recognize O-faces.

  10. I used wonder trade. Am I gonna die?

As far as I've read, the bad trades are few and far between. They can be kept under control if it DOES happen by basically quarantining the box that they've been sent to, taking all the other pokemon out of it. It's the use (moving, attempting to trade, attempting to release) that spreads the bad code at this point so yes, you'll likely be hampered in some way BUT worst-case is to send all your good pokemon to a friend and start the game over. A hassle but that's what you'll be risking if you do wonder trade until/unless it gets addressed.

  11. I'm addicted. I need more safaris though.

    0559-6824-9255

ALSO ADD MY WIFE she needs those too.

    2423-3212-6224

I'm sure its redundant but please, do it for me. She kinda whines when I have people she doesn't. Also apparently she has all the berries and o-powers or whatever.

This is what happens when I stay away from the forums for too long and recess back into high school gamer mode.

Edit: oh yeah forgot there's a whole thread for friend codes. I guess I should post it there. I'm a horrible OCR Staff.

  12. Well, I guess I kinda have to be there, since OverClocked University is playing and whatnot. OA, diotrans, DragonAvenger, Vilecat, Viraldemon, Tom C., and myself will most definitely be in attendance. We'll be running a booth throughout the weekend as well, so I guess any impromptu meetups can be planned when we're there since most people won't know what their schedules are until we're at the freaking thing.

Also you all should really go on Friday. Benjamin Briggs, Mega Ran, and OCU will be playing then and I can assure you there isn't an act that night you'll not regret missing.

tl;dr meet at OCR merch booth if anything, we'll figure it all out then. Rock on.

  13. Are you a talented visual artist looking for a way to express your love for OCR? Well, there's good news for you! We have just the opportunity you're looking for!

As many of you know, OCR attends many Video Game-related functions and events, such as conventions and music festivals. When we go to these events, we normally sell merchandise and bundle album physicals to make every purchase feel special. And recently, we've come up with an exclusive physical album that will only be handed out in person. It's called A Taste of OCR, and we're starting with Volume 1. The tracklist features a smattering of some of OCR's most diverse songs, showcasing the high level of musical professionalism across a range of games, systems, genres, and musical styles.

We're looking for an artist to take care of the front cover art, the back cover tracklist, and the disc art. The contest entries will consist of ONLY the front cover art. If your entry wins, you'll be asked to do the other two pieces as well.

Staff is currently on a bit of a time crunch since we want to get these ordered and ready before the beginning of next year, so the time line will be a bit tight. Here are the rules for entry:

    1) One entry per person.

    2) Image should be standard cd cover dimensions (1500x1500 px, 300dpi PNG is a good start. If you need reference dimensions, contact me). Please retain any art you make in the native project format, such as PSD, PDN, GMP, etc so that any potential changes can be made if your entry wins but needs some minor tweaks.

    3) The cover should NOT contain any ripped game art or sprites. The artwork shoul be wholly original, except for potentially the use of the OCR logo and title. The OCR title is Iomanoid if you were wondering.

You CAN draw original artwork of existing properties, like Mario, Samus, Kirby, Solid Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, etc etc, but don't use pre-existing art.

    4) The cover should include the album title "A Taste of OCR: Volume One" on it.

    5) All entries need to be in by 11:59 PM EST October 11th, 2013.

    6) The winner will be selected by majority vote of OCR Staff within three days of all entries being collected. The winner will then be announced and contacted for the additional artwork information.

You may hotlink, embed, or upload your file however you wish. Please post entries in this thread for consideration, regardless. If you have any questions, let me know.

Good luck and looking forward to what y'all can come up with!

  14. Stevo, I love you.

I dunno about mixing run 'n guns with shmups. They're similar in some ways, sure, but they're different enough that I think it doesn't make sense to put one on an album dedicated to the other. Plus if you just include Gunstar Heroes then you'll have people asking what you have against rocket lawnchairs. But if you need more remixers then that's legit - better to get enough music for a full album than to worry about being a purist.

Since you're including rail shooters, Sin and Punishment would make a good addition. Great game, great music.

Something from the Thunder Force series would also be good. I want to say it'd be nice to include a Cave game, but I guess Batsugun counts. Then there's the massive indie/dojin scene... I'd vote for Genetos just because the music is so delightful and the game's concept is so neat (even if the gameplay isn't the best).

Too many good companies, let alone games, that people don't know about because shmups are such a fringe genre. Will be neat to get any sort of shmup album from ocr.

R-Type would be good, but he already has a Psikyo on the list with Gunbird.

I bought 2 just for the opening sequence and title screen. Worth it.

I have been working with someone behind the scenes to come up with a unique and intriguing concept of this album, and will hopefully open up "public recruitment" soon. It's definitely not what I originally had in mind, but thus far the idea's morphed into something kickass. As of now, Gunstar and Sunset Riders were removed from the list so you're run n gun point was a valid one.

I'll link here once the thread is made. Also fuck yeah Sin and Punishment. It's amazing how this "fringe genre" has some of the best music VGM has to offer.

Batsugun caught my ear when I was going through all the Saturn games I never got a chance to play. Definitely what I consider the original bullet hell shmup, and the FM music is just divine.

Again, I won't comment too much on whats in and whats out or how its going to be done until planning is finalized :)

    In the meantime,
