  1. Soundscape has a lot going on, but the lead sits on top nicely and is clear. I enjoyed that there was a lot of small but noticeable change-ups in the instrumentation to keep things interesting, and also a lot of structure changes of the melodic lines. I did feel like some of the backing pads were a bit strong at times, but to me it didnt work out to be a deal breaker. Similarly, the ending sound effect before "Perfect" felt strange, but not a huge deal in the end (see what I did there?). I'm likin' it! YES
  2. I have 2 others tracks too Street Fighter 2 - Guile Theme: -----------------------
  3. Definitely like where you are going with the Success theme here! Very pretty arrangement, and it fits solo acoustic guitar quite well. I think there reverb and sound delay is a little bit too heavy, though I like the swimming feel for the track in general. I can't say I'm feeling the transition and the Cornered theme at 2:00. It's sudden, doesn't really lead in or connect very well, and the arrangement isn't as strong. The shorter and faster plucking also sounds a lot thinner on the sample as well. I suggest taking the second half out and expanding the victory theme arrangement. The Cornered theme has some nice points, and that certainly can be used for a different arrangement, but I don't think these two together is working in this context. Also check out our WIP forums, I think you'd be able to get some good advice there from the mods and forum users on how to improve this further! NO (resubmit)

  5. Really nothing to add here, the arrangement is really solid, and the orchestration fits quite well for the track. I will agree that some of the instruments could have been massaged a little more to sound a touch more realistic, but things are quite passable as is. I'm not bothered by the transposition, but I grew up with a movable Do solfeg system. Quite a moving arrangement , really nice work! YES
  6. This stays fairly close to the original in terms of structure, but there's a lot of melodic changes in regards to key signature which gives this a fairly unique feel. The instrumentation, as mentioned, is reminiscent of the original, but again has a lot of it's own flair. The detuned bells at the beginning were a nice touch in particular. The arrangement doesn't really feel like a builds very much, and I felt like the end was a bit abrupt as a result, but it wasn't a huge cut off or anything major. Samples overall are pretty good and work well together, though there's a lot of bleed from the instruments that can get a bit cluttered over time. Would have loved this to be a little cleaner on the instrument decay, but again it's not a huge deal and adds a bit to the soundscape in it's own way. Overall it's a nice tribute to the original with a lot of personal touches, nice work -- EDIT: Went back and relistened after reading the other votes and i think I have to agree. The repetition doesn't bother me as much as the others, but i definitely agree that it is a bit much for the length of the track. The bigger issue is the lack of bass and the weakness of the percussion. I think there's a really solid base here and I hope you fix this one up! NO (resubmit)
  7. Hello, I hope I'm doing this right! Here's the requested information: Link to listen / download submission MP3: Track Info: Name of Game: FTL: Faster Than Light Name of Arrangement: Spaced Name of Individual Song: Space Cruise (Title) Original Composer: Ben Prunty Original Soundtrack: https://benprunty.bandcamp.com/album/ftl Notes on ReMix: This started as an attempt to create synths as close as possible to the wonderful retro sounds that Ben Prunty used in the FTL soundtrack. After lots of experimentation with both similar and quite different virtual instrumentation, I ended up layering a full arrangement of the title track, Space Cruise. Everything was performed and arranged in Ableton, other than the famous "Jump" sound effect at the end, which is pulled straight from the game. Thanks very much for your time and consideration! Best, Matt Panay / insomnis
  8. I don't necessarily know if I'd call this a marching band arrangement, per se, but I do think it's a lovely style adaption from the original, and the parts are all natural for the instrumentation you picked. The arrangement is overall pretty strong, and the time-signature adaption in the middle works pretty well in Pt5. Pt 6 sounds pretty cluttered to me, however, and I felt overall that the combination of the themes along with the odd time signature wasn't really working very well. There's too much going on in that section, overall and it feels too busy. I'm still not feeling a lot of your samples. The brass samples feel a bit hollow, and are missing the bite that I'd expect. Part of that stems from the attacks feeling sluggish, whereas most brass instruments have a pretty sharp attack. The harpsichord has a similar problem, I'm used to hearing a harsh attack and in here it's just not as strong as I'd expect. Hopefully another judge can help clarify a bit here for me, whether it's working on some velocities in the attacks or something to get a more realistic feel from the samples. For me this comes down to Pt. 6 and the realism of the samples. I'd say this is borderline, but I'd like to hear some fixes. Good luck on the rest of the vote! NO (resubmit, please)
  9. Remixer name: Bluelighter ID forum: 21840; Real name: Guillaume SAUMANDE; Game & Songs: Skies of Arcadia & Sailor Town Composer: Yutaka Minobe, Tatsuyuki Maeda Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YegyGi2YdfY Album Project: Skies of Arcadia Hi OCR, Here is my contribution for album project "Skies of Arcadia", a remix of Sailor Town in a marching band style. I thank DarkFlameWolf for his invitation! I didn't know the OST, but the track was really interesting to work on and the project was teaching for me. The track was difficult to arrange because of its complexity, a lot of melodic lines (ML) with complex harmony to assemble in sthg cohesive enough. To simplify the structure, I put an accent on ML1 (0'26 -> 1'13) and ML3 (1'43 -> 2'43); the other melodic lines are more used as transition between these two main parts. From feedbacks I received on forum project or from judges, I retained notably a problem at pt.5 and pt.6, where it was difficult to feel melodic line. In this last version, I've added a brief melody at pt.5 by trombone solo that gives a nostalgic feeling on this part. This one introduces the next part in higher harmony, where brass play ML2 at the same time that orchestra continue ML3. I find the result interesting. In pt9, we retrieve briefly ML2 in the variation presented in pt6, but with soft instrumentation. The mix concludes by ML2a, march band style softer than other pa Enjoy! 10. Not a source you hear often, and it's a pretty fun one! This sub is suffering from a lot of the same issues as your others; the parts are very mechanical, and the instruments themselves are not very realistic. The balance is a little muddy at times, with all the parts going on around the same volume, rather than highlighting the main parts. The arrangement is also an orchestral cover of the original, with a repeat in the middle. More expansion is definitely needed here for our standards. I do definitely appreciate that you pick songs that are inspiring to you and are also off the beaten path, and hope to hear more from you as you improve! NO

  12. Totally agreed on the storm volume here. My suggestion is that after the initial entrance to bring it down a touch to Larry the other parts come through bete, and maybe bring it back up at appropriate moments. I'll also agree that the interlude is just too long, and really could be cut down to maybe 15-20 seconds and abusive the same effect. The track is really cull, and I loved how smooth you were able to make this compared to the original. I will agree again with Gario (nice judgement, BTW!) That the parts after the interlude overall feel a bit too similar to what's come before. A solo or maybe another track cameo might be useful in its place, our trimming down the track in general. I think this is close, hope you fix it up! NO (resubmit)
  13. Not too much to add here, but I would like to note that I feel like your voice gets a little nasally in the lower register at times, our occasionally when you're singing a rising section. I think the vocals being unplugged here makes it a little more noticeable, as I don't usually hear that in your vocals on other tracks. It might also seen from the track being lower in the register than I'm used to hearing from you. Mind you this is not something I feel is holding the track back but just something extra that i can nitpick on dying the others already hit the major issue. A tip to help with going flat while singing is to slowly raise your arms while singing a phase. The action helps remind you mentally to keep your voice strong and helps keep you from falling flat. Doesn't always work but it helps! NO (resubmit)
  14. Gonna straight up agree with the gentlemen above. The arrangement is lovely, and I do hear some subtle personalization in the backing parts, but it does remain pretty close to the original structurally and methodically. I think this is very close in regards to arrangement, and if the production were spot-on I'd be pretty tempted to go YES. The strings are definitely the offender here, though the flute has a couple of moments that sounds a little stiff and could be touched up. Overall I think this is very close, and I really hope you take another look on this. The track is pretty lovely, and i think maybe expanding out the arrangement a little could go a long way here. Getting a little more humanization will also put you over the tipping point. Good luck! NO (resubmit, please)
  15. What a chill theme! You guys have definitely taken this to the max level of relaxation with some great instrumentation choices and very smooth performances. I enjoyed that there was a good changeup between the leads where nothing overstayed its welcome. I do think the duo between the violin and the harmonica at 2:06 feels a little awkward as they both take up similar space in the mix and feel a little bit 'clashy'. Nothing big enough to be a deal breaker, just a critique. Very nice! YES
  16. Pretty much this is amazing. Great style to take this source, and you guys rocked the performances of of the park! Really love the dystopian feel this gives off, and I think the vibe(tee hee) is great. Love the cameo themes as well. Great work! YES
  17. I do think the arrangement has some fun parts, but overall this is a really short arrangement. I would have loved there to be more expansion on the theme(s), and more fleshing out in general. Done if the harmonic choices are pretty fun, nice work in that aspect. There's definitely some production aspects holding things back, which is the bigger issue. The lack of clarity that the others mentioned is definitely a weird aspect that feels strange. More importantly I felt that the strings and other parts sound very mechanical and fake. This is more noticeable due to the short arrangement. I'd love for you to work on the strings especially to get the sound and the attacks to sound more realistic. I think this is a pretty good start, but needs some work. The production is the bigger issue, but I think being the arrangement up a bit would do a lot of good as well. Hope to hear this fixed up! NO (resubmit)
  18. At first I wasn't feeling the vocal timbre compared to the acoustic backing, but a few listens and I felt they work quite well. They do even better as the track kicks into gear. Loving the arrangement ideas and it makes me glad that more and more people are seeing the lyrical potential of You're Not Alone. There's a ton of emotion behind the vocals and i felt the delivery was excellent. I want feeling the transition into Time's Scar but it's short and sweet and gets to the good part quickly. Not a dealbreaker here. Overall the arrangement could have stood to be a little but longer, the track feels like it ends too soon. That being said I enjoyed it quite a bit and look forward to your next submission! YES
  19. Mike's right that the track is a really solid foundation that is suffering from to much repetition. I think you can inter mix some fresh themes, either something else from the game or something original and cut down a bit on the repetitive-ness. The original stiff that you do have here is working pretty well, so more of that! The mix definitely feels dry, and the percussion is sitting too much on top of the mix. Working on the production to make the soundscape fuller and stronger well really make the energy you have already shine. Hope to hear this again! NO (resubmit)
  20. Not much to add here, the track is definitely pretty quiet and the lack of bass makes the track feel pretty narrow in the soundscape. I appreciate the small alterations to the melody you have added to the track, it gives your mix done cute melody. The track goes on for a good while to the point of things becoming pretty repetitive. You can definitely shorten this and take out some of the extra fluff. There's a good start here, but a lot of work to go. Good luck!
  21. Yup, would love there to be more interpretation overall in this track. Really fun idea to ska the sources out, but this definitely borders on a cover at times. I might be confusing themes, but I feel like I'm hearing some of the spider battle dancing its way in from time to time as well. The second half of the mix has way more interpretation and I'd love you too continue on along those lines. The samples are definitely fakey, especially the attacks. The brass in particular is no good, it sounds like none of the notes are tongued. Some better samples would definitely help this out. Hit up the WIP boards to get some more feed back. Hope to hear this fixed up! NO (resubmit)
  22. Not really anything to add on here: the mix is well-instrumentalized for what it is, but it's too close to the source as-is for our standards. Definitely check out some of our recently posted mixes and compare them to their original tracks to see how other mixers have personalized and arranged the sources. I'm also not really feeling the lo-fi atmosphere overall, and would love some clarity touch ups. Good start here, but it's not working out as is. Hope to hear more from you! NO
  23. Piggybacking on what the others have said; this is a fantastic start, but you can definitely expand this out so it has better flow and doesn't feel like an intro that leads to an ending. Please keep on this one! NO (resubmit)
  24. Yes, we're cool with percussive-only music. That being said, listening through I do agree with Sir Nuts that the amount of the track that is recognizable to the source is pretty low, pretty much at the two points he mentioned. Unless someone else has some other sections they can point out then I'm going to have to go with a NO on this. I do however want to mention that this is a pretty cool song you've done, and it really conveys a ton of anxiety. Really nice work for 4 days and little experience! NO (resubmit)
  25. Yeah, immediately hitting me is the super generic synths that start out pretty blocky. I think a revision to change out some of the synths and get things flowing a little smoother is in order. I also felt the soundscape tends to feel a bit empty overall. Some backing pads and a bit more in the lower end/higher end would help that out. In regards to the arrangement, there's a lot of good stuff going on, though I think at times the track gets to be a little aimless (2:24 being an example). I also think making some of the source themes a little more prominent for more of the track would help out here as well, as I felt like the source usage was a little low overall. I feel like this is a good track for the WIP forums. You've got a really solid start, and I think there's a lot of great material, but some of the fluff needs to be trimmed and the production needs a bit of an overhaul. Good luck! NO (resubmit)
