  1. This definitely has a lot of your style in regards to staying close to the source and adding some subtle personalization. In regards to our standards I always feel like you are just sitting the line in terms of the personalization, but I think this one gets it done in the right way. I definitely appreciate the effort you spent to keep the ethereal quality of the original, and I can definitely hear some of the strong qualities of the original enhanced here. I agree that some parts of the track feel a touch static, but it's not a deal breaker here for me. Always fun to listen to your submissions, even if they aren't totally OCR-compliant. Keep sending us more tracks! YES
  2. Thanks for pointing that stuff out, I'd say it's still a bit close in terms of source usage, but I think it's there! YES (borderline)
  3. Gario really has some great advice here. The repetition on the opening motif definitely is a bit much, and some sort of variation would make a world of difference. Either shortening the number or changing the pattern would be effective (or both!). I'm also going to agree that the high end feels a bit lacking. The track feels almost stuffy as a result, and getting more of the higher end frequencies will really help open up the track. The Mega Man death sound effect could also be louder at the end, it's barely noticeable as is. Great start, but it needs a couple adjustments yet. NO (resubmit)
  4. Nothing to add here, really enjoyed the lyrics and the production on the vocals works great. I agree that the instruments could be brought up a little bit. Nice way to keep a pretty repetitive source interesting, too! YES
  5. The guitar tone is really nice here, and I love that the sad and loneliness of the original (Hero's Theme) is kept in tact(ics) here. For me there are a couple issue, mainly that I feel like the track gets to be a little bit too repetitive on the main motif, and that overall it holds pretty close to the source. I think a little more variation is what is needed here, though I think it's overall pretty close, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple yesses here. Definitely hope to hear this one again! NO (borderline)(please resubmit!)
  6. Hello, I'd like to submit my melody of Final Fantasy Tactics' songs "Main Character's Theme" and "Memories." 7. I found the arrangement to be very evocative, great use of instrumentation to bring out the emotion throughout. The coin sampling didn't bother me like it did for Mike, but I can see his point. Overall the flow of the arrangement is very strong, and I enjoyed the overall ambiance. There's quite a few good tracks in all of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon soundtracks, and I always enjoy hearing some new mixes come through. BTW, PSMD is actually a step up in difficulty from the previous games, I found myself getting knocked out quite a few times due to not finding good items in the dungeon runs. Definitely try it out sometime if you looking for a decent challenge YES
  8. Definitely fits the bill of the 80's genre here. Really enjoying the soundscape you created here, and the groove is really great. A lot of detail went into little parts, like the percussion hits, and it really makes the track shine. Soundscape is clear, with the leads shining through well. Really enjoyable track all around, nice work! YES
  9. Contact Info ReMixer name: Just Coffee Real name: Gian Descallar Website: justcoffee.bandcamp.com User ID: 32271 Submission Info Game: Castlevania (NES) Arrangement Name: Vampithrillic Songs arranged: Prologue (Start BGM), Vampire Killer (Breaking Into the Castle BGM), Stalker (Tower BGM) My comments: I might just be going through a phase right now, but I am having a lot of fun with this genre. Here's an 80s remix of Castlevania. Hello OCR, Vampire Killer is something I've always wanted to make a remix of way back when I was first learning my how to's. Previous attempts were mostly EDM but they weren't very good so I scrapped the idea. Time went by and I've decided to revisit the project and redo it with new knowledge and a different flavor. Initially, I wanted it to be kind of a funky cop movie theme but elements of the source kept tugging at me to make it more like a horror movie pop song in certain spots. So I redid a few more phrases and added the prologue slowed down to half in order to give it a spoopy intro. I also added the notable bassline from Stalker because it makes for a nice interim between phrases. The 8-bit sample break that starts at 2:00 is an attempt to harken back to dance breaks, like in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" wherein there's just the beat and dancers would literally step up to take the spotlight. Since I have no dancers, I stitched the samples together to make it seem like there's some dancing going on as well as serve the nostalgia whine to go with the cheese. Since my first submission, I've been on the learning curve for mastering and I'm still learning a lot with every song that I do. And since I'm self-taught, I have no immediate way of determining whether I've done a proper master or not. So please let me know if there's clipping in areas, if it's too quiet or loud, or if I need to remaster from scratch. I value feedback a lot and I've always appreciated it most coming from OCR. Cheers! -Coffee ---------------------
  10. I like that this is a drastic change of mood and pace from the original. The source is definitely recognizable, andthe new elements as a ton of character. I agree with Greg that some of the sections feel a little repetitious with the percussion in particular, but there is enough variation that i don't feel like it's too much on autopilot. Couple of interesting notes in the bass as well, but I only picked them out twice and they weren't egregious. The style change and overall groove are excellent and i really enjoyed hearing a source that hasn't been heard around here YES
  11. Yeah, in the end I'm agreeing with the NO side here; there is some added parts and it is and interesting track that expands on the original soundscape a bit, but it isn't enough overall to fit the standards. Outside of said standards this is a really nice listen and could easily be considered a nice remaster of the original. NO
  12. Gonna throw my vote in here with NOs. To me the compression, mechanical piano, and thin guitar are just adding up to be too much. I think this is an awesome start though, and I really hope to hear it again! NO (resubmit)
  13. Yeah, this is a solid submission that takes a lot of care in its transitions, despite following a medley-esque form here. Each source is definitely recognizable, but listening from the outside you would have little idea that they were different tracks put together to form a cohesive whole. Really enjoyed the guitar work, and the energy is on point. If I were to nitpick I'd say things almost sound too clean at times. It almost feels a touch sterile, if that makes sense. Adding a touch more humanization in a couple parts would do the trick. Great track! YES
  14. So I'm not really feeling the super low bass at the beginning, partly because it's so low that I'm trying to figure out if it's out of tune or not. Once things really kick in, though, this is a pretty sweet listen. It does sound pretty reminiscent to some other arrangements of the theme out there, but there are some differences that set this apart, like the sections between the themes, and the solo. Lead guitar is played pretty well, and the drums have some decent variation to keep things interesting. I'm down with this. YES
  15. ReMixer name: Schmoo Userid: 33502 Name of game(s) arranged: Metroid Name of arrangement: Kraid's Forgotten Lair Name of individual song(s) arrange: Kraid's Chamber Link to the remix: Link to the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UGKCvIrF_o What can I say, this is the first remix I've done all by myself. It's a bit slower and more atmospheric approach to the classic tune from Metroid. There are no samples used, apart from the drums. It's worth noting that the vinyl noise at the beginning and the guitar noises at about 1:10-1:1:15 are completely intentional.
  16. I can see a little of what Larry is saying in regards to a couple of the transitions, but overall I felt that they were a bit to abrupt overall and hurt the overall flow. I am also surprised the other judges didn't mention that there seems to be a decent amount of reverb, especially in the lower instruments. The track feels a bit washed out and muddy, and I would have liked a cleaner room sound overall. I think the individual sources are treated fine, but I think the combination of these sources isn't working with the transitions that are there. As with some of your earlier pieces I'm going to suggest working with 1-3 sources and work on having them connect more strongly, as well as consider being a little more bold in your arrangement ideas to differentiate from the sources a little more. Each submission is improving, and I love seeing how you've grown each time I listen to a track! NO (resubmit)
  17. I'll agree that the buildup is a bit long, but I do think that the additional elements and the 'opening up' of the soundscape was pretty fun and while not exactly new, felt interesting and different. I'm also going to agree with the general consensus that the synths overall are a bit vanilla, but I felt like the track changed up and moved around to stay fresh. Overall it's a close call, but I think it squeaks by and I'm looking forward to Schtiffles improving in the future! YES (borderline)
  18. Listened to the new version of this and I'm having no issues with the guitar sound, so I appreciate the Joe was able to put into this. I love that the arrangement is both close to the original style but also has a ton of personality in the performances. Well, minus the organ, which sounds a little dull, especially compared to the sax wailing soon after. I don't see it being a deal breaker, but I do find it to be the weak point of the mix. Good stuff from Joe as always! YES
  19. David PM'd me about this being a possible fallthrough. May also have to check if that last source is cool as it's from the movie. ----------------------- So, I'm not sure it's up to OCR standards, but I thought why the hell not submit my Wesker track from BadAss3. I'm sure since it's a OCR project track you guys have all the relevant info for me. I'll include a rundown of the source usage too: The main Wesker theme from RE1 & Umbrella Chronicles are used throughout the intro of the track, 0:00-1:28 mostly the piano, but the guitar also does a variation of it, & the staccato strings layer the piano. At around 1:29-1:47, the guitar does the main part from Winds of Madness (RE5), while the choir backing it is from the Wesker Mercenaries Theme (RE4). Then from then on, the backing guitar does the main Wesker Theme again, with the piano doing the variation of it from the beginning of the song. Also, the tom hits at 1:47 are referencing the RE movies Wesker Theme, The Outsider (Renholder Mix) by A Perfect Circle! Not sure if it's up to OCR standards, but here's hoping! -----------------------
  20. Gario has really nailed this one. Right away I noticed the over compression and agree that it could stand to be fixed up. The drums do feel like they aren't as prominent add they could be, which would really help drive the track more. I also think the harmonies could come up a little more in the track. I think you're on the right track here, hope to hear you fix this up! NO (resubmit)
  21. Pokéception in my house, guys. Haven't been to my regular work ER yet, but the hospital I worked at yesterday had a Pokéstop at the front that I visited as often as I could
