  1. I love it when we get some live playing in. Definitely a great tune to pick as well, it works pretty well in your setup. I'm a bit concerned that the melody stays pretty straightforward to the source at first, but things definitely pick up later in the arrangement! I feel like the first 1/3 of the arrangement is a bit too slow and plodding compared to the rest of the mix. Maybe bringing the tempo up a few BPM there to get the track moving a little more might help, though I do understand the desire for a contrast to the rest of the arrangement. The cello has some noticeable intonation issues when it is a little more prominent. Also at 1:20 there are some strange arrangement choices that aren't working to me. Not sure if it was just a note flub or the arrangement itself, but it sounds cluttered with some off notes. Similarly, I can't say I'm feeling the ending itself, but I do put that down to personal choice and the artist/arranger decision. To me it feels a bit too anti-climatic after such an energetic section before it. Once things pick up the arrangement is pretty fresh and has a lot of great harmonies and countermelodies. The pizzicato section feels a little overpowered by the flute, but aside from that the energy is really great and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I do think the second 2/3 of the mix really make up for the criticisms I mentioned earlier, and the track overall is really fun. Hope to hear more from you guys in the future! YES (Borderline)
  2. Relistened, and I gotta agree with the 'Tamer. I think this is a relatively easy fix, altering the arpeggios would work pretty well to still give the Moonlight Sonata feel but not be too close to it. Hope to hear this fixed up! NO (resubmit)
  3. Great energy, for sure! I love to hear compo tracks that really highlight sources and do a good job of bringing them together; everything sounds very natural and cohesive. Not too much to nitpick here, but I'd say maybe the lead synth is a bit too loud at times to the point where it's overpowering the track at times. Very enjoyable, nice work! YES
  4. I was a little concerned that this is structurally pretty close to the the source, but there's a ton of personalization in here. The guitar playing is on point, and there's a ton of energy in the performances. Really enjoyed this one YES
  5. This is similar to the other mixes you have sent in where it is too close to the source tunes and set up a bit too much like a medley. There's nothing wrong with the arrangement, and it's a fun listen, it just doesn't work for our standards. The production is still a bit blocky, and I'd love to hear you keep improving your realism by altering velocities, tempos, and dynamics more. Hope to hear from you again soon! NO
  6. Listened to the new version, and without doing a 1-to-1 comparison I think this is still sounding fine. Vote remains as is
  7. Really could be DP, just wasn't sure about there being enough source usage. - Deia Greetings.Artists: 25682 Detective Tuesday (Anton Corazza), 3860 DrumUltimA (Doug Perry) / detectivetuesday.com / dougperrymusic.comGame- UNDERTALEName of arrangement - That's Not FunnySource - It's Raining Somewhere ElseComments- "This time I made me do it. Ha ha ha…….. Indeed, this is the first mix I'm submitting to OCR, so I ought to explain my inspiration in a little more detail this time. First off I must credit my friend and neighbor David Higdon for mixing and mastering my arrangement. Got this thing sounding out of this world. UNDERTALE's a very powerful game. As 'It’s Raining Somewhere Else' played in the background somewhere between chill and sad (lousy description), this combo of emotions I felt towards the in-game dialogue had a depth similarly hard to describe, yet I recall it clearly as this melody. The feeling stuck with me because despite this being a work of fiction, I really just had to sit there at my computer FEELIN'. As artists we try to make the audience to feel something beyond the technical aspects of our respective art forms, and with the immersive experience Toby Fox and co. created, I personally feel this was accomplished to a higher degree than I might've ever thought to ask for. How could we not be inspired? It's great to have Doug on board. Not only is he a fantastic instrumentalist and a huge UNDERTALE nerd (like me!... the 2nd part at least), it's just always a blast jamming with him, so I knew if I threw some jammable stuff his way he could nail it. His vibes brought awesome depth and emotion to this piece which I couldn’t have achieved without him. And that vibe solo?? Killin' it, Doug. Have mercy. On my alto sax I referenced multiple UNDERTALE songs which correlate to said dialogue and other major plot elements. As for the blend of organic and electronic instrumentation, let's call it a metaphor for how this electronic game got some SOUL (k I just made that up, 808 kicks just sound hot to me). While I do love cramming motivic easter eggs in my arrangements, I'm trying to make stuff sound good and natural without depending on your knowledge of source materials, so I hope you enjoy this whether or not you've played the game! Now please play the game... Unless you have anything better to do." - Me "Undertale is a fantastic game with an incredible soundtrack. When Tuesday approached me about playing vibes on this track, I was more than excited. I can't get enough of this soundtrack, and hope to get to do many more projects like this one!" -Doug -----------------------
  8. Hey OCRemix staff, my name is Mario (yep, a video game musician named Mario) and I was the vocalist for a band called Zero Division. We did an 80’s glam rock of the Deflektor tune a while ago that got accepted into OCRemix. Now I’m back with a new track named ‘Our Darkest Dreams’, this time for a side project called ‘Blake Inc.’ We did a three-minute progressive rock opera heavy symphonic metal kind-of-thing. I hope it sounds better than it reads! It features the songs “You’re Not Alone!” from the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack and, later on, “Scars of Time” from the Chrono Cross soundtrack. I realize that you guys had an FFIX album out just recently, and it did feature a vocal cover of You’re Not Alone, but we thought it was different enough to merit submission. And here it is: Like last time, we directed a short video for it and you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S22HL5sYX1c But here’s all the information you need: Your ReMixer name: Blake Inc. Your real name: Mario Dederichs, Matthias Opitz Your email address: Your website: http://www.mario-dederichs.com Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile: 33188 Submission Information: Name of game(s) arranged: Final Fantasy IX (main), Chrono Chross (secondary) Name of arrangement: Our Darkest Dreams Name of individual song(s) arranged: You’re Not Alone! (FFIX) / Scars of Time (aka Time’s Scar, CC) Additional information about game including composer, system, etc. (if it has not yet been added to the site): http://ocremix.org/game/14/final-fantasy-ix-ps1 http://ocremix.org/game/17/chrono-cross-ps1 Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: I always thought the lead melody of “You’re Not Alone!” would make an awesome vocal line, so I kept jamming the song on my acoustic guitar and just sang random words to it. I wasn’t quite sure where to go with it, but since I’m clearly more of a rock singer, I built the arrangement around the vocals, like I usually do. There’s this huge build-up in the middle where the guitars kick in and I worried that it might be too much of a difference from the rather calm beginning. But I’m quite happy with the way it eventually turned out. Somewhere around the two-minute-mark, ideas were running thin. I honestly didn’t want to repeat the previous parts, because I really thought that this evolving, loud/quiet dynamic was one of the song’s strong points. But then again, the song was only at two minutes and it felt like it still needed something. So I looked for songs that could possibly fit with the arrangement’s style and eventually settled on “Scars of Time” from the Chrono Cross soundtrack. Even if it might seem like quite a stretch, I’m (again) really happy with how these two songs fit together and the remix turned out eventually. Then I had my good friend Matti contribute bass and lyrics to this song and we recorded it in my home studio. And that’s pretty much all there is to tell about this song. Cheers, Mario ---------------------
  9. Hello OCRemix, I have here my original recreation from Pokemon Red/Blue (Gameboy). This is no edit. It is a total makeover. I re-created everything myself. I am registered as Omega85 at OCRemix. My name is Tolga Yavuz. My mp3 is saved as 192kbps and 16-bit, 44.1kHz stereo. Just as you need it. I have read all info at: http://ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions and I accept all of it. I want to say that there is no Remake of the "Pokemon Center Theme" at OCRemix yet. I hope I can be the first. I hope you accept my remake at OCRemix. Take Care Tolga Yavuz AKA Omega85 ----------------
  10. I had to compare this to Sam and Gabe's Metroid mix, and I do agree that the violin does sound a bit drier than it does for that mix. That being said I do think this is still over the bar in terms of the arrangement and personalization. I can see this going either way, and if it came down to fixing the soundscape I wouldn't mind, but I think it's just good to go as is. YES (borderline)
  11. I'm going to disagree with Kris about the panning; I was listening on headphones and thought it was fine. I do agree that later there are some instruments that seem to be occupying the same space, like the piano and guitar, though overall I didn't find it to be a deal breaker. The arrangement is definitely conservative, but it's dripping with emotion and personality. I'd say this definitely takes the track to a new level. I really enjoyed the attention to detail on the performances here. I can see this one being close, but I feel like it's there. YES
  12. I wish the vocals were more prominent in the mix. They're mostly legible, but they do feel like they're being overcrowded, and it's definitely pulling the track down overall. Also some out of tune notes that could stand to be fixed up, mostly on the lower end of the spectrum. Guitar work sounds pretty good, the clean electric is very clear, which stand a bit in contrast with the vocals. I feel like the snare could use a little more snap, and the kick a little more oomph. I'm a little unsure of some of the source usage, especially towards the end. I'd love someone to help me out with the Sky Chase Zone. There's the bridge section, but I'm not hearing it elsewhere. I think this has a really good start, and really just needs some fixups. A breakdown of the source usage would be super nice as well to help seal the deal on the arrangement aspect. Hope to hear this again! NO (resubmit)
  13. Definitely feel like the source is more dominant here now, I'm good to give this a go. Still iffy on the opening up to 1:27 being considered source, but I think there's enough in the rest to make up for it! Thanks for the revision! YES
  14. Pretty much going to be a parrot here. Love the style adaptation, and the arrangement works really well. There's a little bit of stiffness, and a little bit of crowdedness, but nothing enough to be a deal breaker. Nice work! YES
  15. Pretty much in full agreement with Kris here; there's a lot to like here, and while there are some issues with the production, they don't really add up to bring a deal breaker here. I do think the track could stand to be a bit more full overall, but the arrangement is pretty fun. The ending works really nice add well, as an extra nor to add YES
  16. Listened to this one a couple times. I think the arrangement has plenty of personalization. Starting with a midi file is perfectly fine, and you did plenty to add your own soon to the source. As Kris mentioned, it's noticeable right away that the parts are very stiff, and the mechanical-ness of the track overall takes a lot of the emotion or of it. Similarly, there isn't much in the way of dynamic variation, and that could a lot to the build and falls off the track. I'd love you too take this I've and really work on humanizing the performances. I think the arrangement is fine, it's the production that is holding this back. Hit up our WIP boards to get done more advice, hope to hear this again soon! NO (resubmit)
  17. What a great transition between the themes at 0:45. Overall I felt the arrangement was pretty smart and fun, and the adaptions of the sources were good. I wasn't feeling the combination of the sources at 2:23, but that was pretty minor in the long run. The production was pretty clean, and there was a good use of panning between the melodies. Overall I'm on board with this! YES
  18. One of the better songs (all of the songs are great though!) Of the soundtrack. I like the approach to go fully orchestral. There's definitely some personalization in the arrangement, and while it is short I think it achieves a good arc of build-up and conclusion. My issue overall stems from the production. Everything sounds dry and mechanical. The instruments are all hitting at the same velocities and it sounds very unnatural. Aside from that the lower end feels pretty empty and the percussion is pretty repetitive. I'd love to hear you go over this and really work on humanizing the performance. I suggest bringing this I've to the WIP boards and getting some advice on how to fix this one up, there's definitely promise here. NO (resubmit)
  19. Sweet, I'm down with signing off on this now, nice work addressing the issues and being timely! YES
  20. Overall I'm agreeing that the soundscape sounds a bit empty. Done backing pads could help fill up that space and make the arrangement feel more expansive. The synth work overall has some really nice detail, though overall the arrangement feels pretty repetitive in the long run. A break from the main riff would do a lot of good here do the listener doesn't get to tired of the repetition. The arrangement as a while also feels a little stiff, and some humanization on the parts could help. Some more variation in the drums would also help out. I think this is a solid start, and I think this is a great candidate for the WIPboards. Hope to hear this again! NO (resubmit)
  21. This arrangement is really fun. There's a ton of energy and overall it feels both lighthearted and driving at the same time. guitar work is excellent, and the solos were really solid. I think Mike provided done solid advice regarding the production. The mids are definitely really dominant here, and it's taking over a bit too much. I all also agree that al lot of the elements feel fairly distant. A little nitpicky, but the wild howl at the end clashes with the notes. It's more distracting to me than anything else, and I feel like it sounds out of place anyways. This definitely needs to hit the front page. I hope you adjust some of this levels and get this back to us! NO (resubmit, please) (changed below)
  22. Pretty much agreed here. I enjoyed that the leads were shifting around and there was a good deal going on to keep the listener interested, but the repetitive nature of the arrangement definitely brings this down a notch. A break from the melody would have helped here, maybe a bridge between sections or even a reference to a different theme. I did enjoy the instrumentation and I will disagree about the military drum, which felt regimented and fit the theme of being mechanical by nature. Overall I'd say this will be a close one. YES (borderline)
  23. Can't say I was particularly liking the lead synth overall, but aside from that the arrangement has a pretty solid soundscape that feels full and has a nice low end. As Larry said earlier, the arrangement isn't breaking new ground in regards to originality, but it's doing what it intends to very well. Overall I most enjoyed the section at 2:27 where it sounds both familiar but had a nice mix of original stuff going on. YES
  24. I'm mostly agreeing here with Mike, though I do feel like you have spent a good amount into personalizing the track with flourishes and re-instrumentation. I think the track does get too repetitive in regards to following the original repeats vs. developing a track that builds to a solid ending. The instrument quality definitely berries quite a bit, from realistic to pretty fakey. The woodwinds are definitely the biggest offender here. The laugh also gets to be too much after the first couple of times. I don't think this is necessarily a lost cause but I do think the arrangement would have to be restructured and the production would need work as well. Whether or not you continue to work on this I hope to hear more from you! NO (resubmit)
  25. I had to listen to this one a few times, and I have to admit this is a bit of a tough decision. Overall the soundscape as well as the arrangement are fairly similar to the original, but there is a lot of subtle personalization that adds a lot to the track. That being said,I felt like 3:05 sounds very similar to when it played before. I'm not sure if there's a difference that I am missing, so maybe another judge will notice something and point it out. In the end I do think the arrangement is nice, and the personalization does bring it above the bar, but it is pretty close for me. YES (borderline)
