  1. I'm going to admit that it took me a long time to wrap my head around the arrangement, especially how you incorporated Springman in there. Now I've got a better grasp on things, but it was more than a few listens to be honest. The arrangement is clever, and as Andrew mentioned, it's cool, although at times it doesn't quite gel all the way. There are a couple moments of space that feel a little uninspired, namely the introduction, and 1:50ish, which I think is part of what Vig is getting at. Another issue I see is that there is very little change to the soundscape in terms of instruments and volume, which gets a little uninteresting. Based on that, I'd like to send this back to you so you can really pull this together and make it more solid. NO (please resumbit)
  2. Nothing much to add here. I do feel the overall arrangement is borderline NO due to being fairly conservative, but it still passes muster. Overall very pleasant to listen to, and I enjoyed it. YES
  3. Not much to add to what the others have said. I was also worried at first that things were going to stay conservative, but you pulled it out into some nice original territory as things went along. There are a couple times where the arrangement feels a little sparse; either some more instrumentation or some backing pads could have filled things in in those spots, but it's a minor gripe. YES
  4. Wasn't funny to me. Let's just move on to more questions when they come in.
  5. Really like the soundscape you brought in here, which was pretty unique. There are a lot of layers to this overall which I think you worked together pretty well. The melody itself isn't changed too much, but the backing makes up for that nicely. I'll agree the ending could be a little better, but I'm down with this. YES
  6. Awesome mix, lovin' it. Halc mentions that it's a little low end heavy, and I'll agree with that. Certainly not a dealbreaker though. YES
  7. Repeating what the others are saying; overall this is just too close to the source. Personally I'm not a fan of the piccolo in this; it sounds wayyy fake compared to everything else. Aside from that, you've got a good sound going, just needs more arrangement. NO (resubmit)
  8. Whoa! That sudden crescendo is...sudden. And unnatural, sorry to say. Asside from that, I'm feeling like overall this isn't too far off from the original. There are certainly some differences, mainly the soundscape, but a lot elements remain the same, like the melody, arpeggiated synths, etc. I think this remains too conservative, and would like to see you branch out in your interpretation more. NO (resubmit
  9. What I noticed right away is that the song feels a little washed out at times, like it's got a little too much reverb. It kind of adds a dreamy texture, but at times it's just too much. Secondly was that this is very close to the source, and while everything is treated nicely, there's just not enough interpretation. Hope you hit this one again. NO (resubmit)
  10. Gotta join the 'not a fan of the dissonance' club here; I don't think it's working the way you're intending to, and just isn't sounding right here. Andrew also almost took the words out of my mouth; things just don't feel like they're gelling together overall. Part of it is the balance, and I think part of it is the fake strings sounding that much more fake next to the acoustic playing. Fixing up your chords, hitting up the balance, and maybe tweaking the strings to get a little more realism is my prescription here. NO (resubmit)
  11. I am frumpiemonkey, my remix is for The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and the track I remixed was "Requiem of Spirit". My track is titled "Requiem for the Orchestral Remix". I remember being a kid and playing Ocarina of Time and every time you had to play this song I hated it, it was slow and boring and took to long to finally warp you somewhere, now that I'm older and I was looking for a track to remix I stumbled across the midi file for this and instead of boredom I saw a real opportunity, a lot of peril could be added to this song to make it sound more like an action track or a trailer cue. So I set to work, my computer is really limited on power and mixing gets tough when you have to bounce everything to .WAV so I shot for simplicity and cut out a lot of ostinatos and scales and rips for an effect that I really enjoy, the Melody and counter melody get to shine out clearly (not always the case in trailer style music) and the contrast between parts is really nice. Rather than having a bunch of really cool FX in a bad mix I chose a relatively simple mix with clear parts because it is more true to the source material and easier for the piece to evoke an emotional response from the listener. The first 20 seconds are an orchestalized homage to the original theme with some nice viola and cello harmonies that give the section that feeling you got as a kid actually playing the game, from 20 seconds on till 37 seconds there is a tempo change and this becomes the build section where a lot of tension is added with some staccato patches and (tell me if you can spot it) a quote to the movie score from Speed. Then we get into the climax, brass and drums, until 55 seconds where we go into a winding down with the strings playing a new melody over the percussion section and then at 1:12 we finally get to the last section where the violin sections are playing counterpoint with each other. This track was created in FL studio 10, and the kontakt libraries I use are customized secrets. Please listen to this with good speakers or good headphones, speakers that &^$%ing suck really make the high ends awful. -------------

Remixer Name: Nekofrog Real Name: Justin Jones Userid: 5151 Name of game(s) arranged: Final Fantasy 8 Name of arrangement: Of Dreams and Time Name of individual song(s) arranged: The Extreme, The Man with the Machine gun Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: This one's been pretty much done for a while, but was always missing some things that kept me from submitting it. I'm still not entirely happy with it, as I had to record and mix it without anything other than a cheap $5 pair of headphones. Because of that, I'm sure there's bound to be an abundance of production issues. One of the funny things about this song is that Fishy's and my version of The Extreme share an almost identical riff somewhere in the middle; we found out completely by accident when comparing them a while back. Production issues or no, I'm calling this one over so I can get rid of the project file and wav's, so here you go, OCR. ------------------------ - Extreme - Machine

  14. Hey there, I have a song for you all ReMixer name: Tuned Logic Real Name: Mike Feinstein Email: feinstein.mike@gmail.com Website: http://tunedlogic.com Forum ID: 19721 Artist ID: 5186 ReMix Title: "House of Green" Game: Chrono Trigger Songs: "Secret of the Forest" and "Memories of Green" Comments: Yes, I do already have a "Secret of the Forest" mix posted; thanks for asking! I'm honestly kind of obsessed with this source tune, and looking back, I don't feel I did it justice with "Tree Hopper". My ability to make music has improved since then, and I wanted to take another crack at it. This time, though, I included bits of "Memories of Green" for good measure, which is also used in the Chrono Trigger title sequence, as well as about a billion other songs throughout the disappointingly short series of Chrono games. I decide to stick with that world music style I used for "Tree Hopper", but I made this more of a song and less of an ambient track. You could dance to this.... maybe. Let me know if you try.

For years i stuck with strictly MIDI and the GM Kit. I hadn't touched fl studio or any other DAW until last year. I finally got Mixcraft after was recommended by a pal. It took me awhile before i finally got the idea of EQing and Mixing down but i feel as if it's the first time i finally got it right. This was an interesting remix because it really shows all the experience i've had using Mixcraft. Each genre of the song reflects a period of time where i had to learn to create a style of music and EQ it properly. The way i made it though wasn't piece by piece and then i stuck them all together. I had all three parts laid out with a crappy guitar melody ready to guide me through. Literally before any bass or piano was thrown down, i was recording all the guitar parts, distorted, clean and acoustic. Those were all done and finalized before any drums or synth were added. Another kinda funny thing, at least to me, is that my official pianist, Shelbi Winstead, didn't even play the piano parts in the end. She actually did all the Bass, and most of the synth parts which was surprising to me as usually i tackle the synth related stuff. I sent her my guitar parts and said "go" to her, assuming she'd just put in piano, but she returned it to me with practically no piano, and a lot of synth. I was surprised, but also kind of screwed since the last section (which is a duet of acoustic guitar and acoustic piano) didn't have piano. She had already gone to bed and i wasn't about letting the remix wait till the next day, so i pulled out my midi keyboard and did the piano myself! Overall, i, and many others are quite happy with this remix and i hope it will be my break and finally get me onto OC Remix.
  16. Remixer Name: Somaru ID Number: 31817 Game Name: Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millennium Remix Name: Hysteria Original Song Name: Laughter Comments: Well, this is my first submission to OCR. Hope it pans out. Phantasy Star IV is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, despite how easy it was, and the overall length was seemingly lacking in my opinion; what stood out the most was its... Quite oddly arranged soundtrack. Not to mention the generally strange composition. So, I've taken one of my more favorite songs and given it my own Trance treatment, with a minor Gothic feel strewn about. It's a shame that nobody's really delved into PS4's battle themes, mainly sticking to the opening theme. Show some adventure! I'm waiting for Metal versions of Meet them Head on, Laughter (what this song's based on) and Ooze. The riffs are all there. Just gotta exploit them. That being said, I'm outtie. I hope someone enjoys it. ----------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFgpWnamW_M
  17. Contact Information: ReMixer name - jordi Real name - Jordi Francis Email address - jailed@live.co.uk Website/Youtube Channel - www.youtube.com/user/etherealwinds Userid - 44177 Submission Information: Name of game arranged - Final Fantasy VIII Name of arrangement remix - Lost in the Mist Name of individual song arranged - Find Your Way This is my vocal arrangement of the haunting piece composed by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy VIII 'Find Your Way'. To capture the mood of this song in the best way possible using the equipment and instruments I had in my posession, I first put together an acapella arrangement. I sang the harmonies trying to keep close to the harmonies of the original piece so as not to stray into an unrecognisable composition. Performance-wise, my aim was to keep my tone as gentle as possible to keep the flow of the piece and so as not to disturb the texture of the panned harmonies. This piece really tested my vocal range, but I hope it's satisfactory at the very least. After finishing, I felt it was missing something. I have some lovely sounding bells that I'd recently acquired and thought they'd make a perfect accompaniment with the vocals whilst keeping the sinister, haunting tone. It's understandable if this submission isn't accepted, however. My microphone is a USB studio condenser, the Samson CO1U to be precise. With no soundproofing, the quality isn't the best. While it's not perfect, I thought I'd still submit anyway after reading 'Recordings should be reasonably free of distortion, hum, clicks, pops, or other unintentional audio artifacts.' I do believe it is 'reasonably' free of distortion, hum, clicks and pops. Thank you very much! -------------------------------------- The submission is attached to the email. Here also, is a link to the submission: (however here the file is named 'find your way'. please note that the arrangement I have named 'Lost in the Mist') Here is a link to the original song: If there is anything you need, please do not hesistate to contact me ^o^.

Well.....yeah. And it's progressive house at that. Honestly, my process for this mix involved so much copy-and-paste it wasn't even funny; dragging the paint tool across FL's pattern screen got pretty tiring after a while It's six and a half minutes long, inspired by deadmau5, and lo-fi (the most so I've submitted to the panel thus far, hope you guys dig it!). With DRY drums. Yes, very dry. I played with filters a lot in this one, but hey, what else is new. Also sidechaining, same old, same old A little excessive, sure. But you know what? I LIKE excessive sidechaning. DEAL WITH IT. Hahahaha! (seriously it's a personal preference ) Except the end result is totally different from anything else I've made. Nonetheless, please enjoy my take on this gut-wrenching theme (you gotta play the game ) It might be a little repetitive for some people's tastes, but I figured "who knows, it might hit the guidelines." XD _______ Source breakdown?????????? Man I'm going all-out here... *:14 - 3:05 and 4:15 to 6:30 = main bass structure of all of the source *chords from :37 - 3:22 and 4:15 - 6:30 are slight variations of chords in the source *Lead from 1:20 - 1:47, 2:00 - 2:32, and 4:30 - 5:03 (with the exception of the last 5 or so seconds of lead) are straight from the source *ostinado from 2:44 - 3:14 and 4:14 - 6:00 are straight from the source *high bells from :49 - 3:30 and 3:45 - 6:15 are straight from the source *3:23 - 4:14 = break from all source usage with the exception of the high bells. Total 365 seconds of source out of 396 seconds of song. So yeah, kinda conservative, but it's my belief that there are enough variations for it to qualify as a passable arrangment???? Haha what do I know, you guys are the judges Again, hope you guys enjoy, see you in three weeks --------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9EtAPA4KEE

After initially coming out of the sunken ship, he reappears with his head sticking out of a little-seaweedy-closed off area ( http://www.mariowiki.com/images/9/94/Unagi64Face.jpg ). Just like trying to get in the princess painting outside the castle, I tried to get in this little tunnel behind Unagi, hoping it would lead to some secret cave area. Unfortunately it didn't lead to a secret area, so I was compelled to compose this remix to satisfy my imagination. It is quite a harsh take on a lovely theme, but my obsession with trance (and a little of that thing called dubstep) was what I ended up with. Imagine what Unagi would have been hiding in his secret cave back there, and maybe this production will make more sense. Hope you enjoy! (Produced in FL Stud10) Source:
  20. Super fun, although I feel like the backing synths get a little old after a while, and could use a change-up a little more often. Great source, and of course it fits your style well YES
  21. Going to agree that there's some really cool stuff going on here, but I feel like at times there's a lot of filler going on that could be cut out. When stuff is going, it's great, but I feel like this could be trimmed down a little. I might be in the minority here, but for now, gotta say Changed
  22. Love how the themes are combined here, and as usual your writing is great. I'm still feeling like you're sounds aren't as real as I'd like them to be, and it's pulls away from the track a bit. Sequencing is also a bit stiff, which contributes. Still awesome to listen to, though, and for me it's a YES
  23. Gotta agre with Andrew; aside from the ending, this is a pretty easy vote here. Plenty of additions to the source, and it really keeps the feel of urgency. Nice drumwork overall, and the bass really brings it. I'm down with this, even with the ending being a little cop-out. YES
  24. Like the arrangement ideas here, I've actually thought about making Shadow's theme into a folktale myself at one point. Halc mentioned the recording quality and that's the first thing I noticed when listening to this. Love to see you get a better take on the vocals. Aside from that, I felt like the transition to the heavier stuff and then back out was somewhat out of nowhere, I'd like you to look at those transitions. Neat idea, just needs more polish. NO (resubmit)
  25. The gentlemen hit most of what I wanted to say. I'm never usually a fan of quotes/sound effects, and this isn't anything different, as I find it hard to focus on what's actually being said, and more hearing it as just a noise factor overall. Balance could be tweaked slightly, with the piano coming up a little, and the bass/pads coming down a touch. Arrangement is pretty fantastic, and I enjoyed listening throughout. I didn't find the lack of drum variety bothersome at all, since there are so many other details to take in. Fantastic soundscape all around, really like how this one came together. YES
