OCR02347 - *YES* Descent 'Lost in the Mines'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Really not much to add to what Vig said, in my opinion. This is a nice track, and it's got a lot of good elements, but I can't help but notice that there are a few things keeping it from being omg awesome. That being said, this is still definitely above the bar, and I'll look forward to any submissions from you in the future. YES -
finished My Doom - The Demon's Dead remix
DragonAvenger replied to Rabid Pickle's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Just to clarify on one extra point, a vote of 'No Override' doesn't necessarily mean that it was on track to a YES vote. N.O. is when a track is in violation of one of our standards that was missed in the initial overview of the song from the inbox to either the panel, a direct rejection, or a direct post. There have been songs given a N.O. vote that have initially passed the panel, and tracks that would have been voted NO anyways. -
*NO* Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Lights Out' *RESUB*
DragonAvenger replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Not much to add to \m/ Agreed with Andrew; cymbals are a little loud, but overall the track is good. Maybe a little liberal, but I had no problem identifying and hearing the source in a good deal of the track. YES -
OCR02382 - *YES* Sonic & Knuckles 'Quicksander'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Very cool arrangement. I generally am somewhat dubious about dubstep as it tends to be somewhat gimmicky, but I think you used it really well here. The theme is very present here, and you've given it a nice touch. I do see Halc's worries with the overall volume, and I agree it wouldn't hurt to come down a bit, but I am ok with it as is as well. Nice mix. YES -
Going to agree with Andrew here; you've got a really nice base here, and combining the two themes that you did works pretty well. Right now it's missing that polish overall; the percussion isn't really pulling weight like it should, I'd love it to have some more presence overall. The overall synths are ok, and an upgrade certainly wouldn't hurt. Hope to hear this one again: NO (resubmit)

OCR02293 - *YES* Mega Man 9 'The Skull Fortress'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Andrew hit all I would have said. Definitely fits Sixto's style just right, and he did a great job with it. It does feel like there might be a lost beat in the intro, but nothing terrible. Just like his other mix, I think this one fits pretty cookie cutter, and I'm hoping you take a few risks in your next sub! Since we're throwing requests at Juan, Legend of Mana please! YES -
OCR02375 - *YES* Super Castlevania 4 'Deforestation'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
It is too bad about the bassline, but this arrangement is pretty kickin' otherwise. Instrumentation is smart, and all used effectively to push the mood very well. Vocals are a nice touch as well. YES -
OCR02440 - *YES* Mega Man 9 'High Voltage'
DragonAvenger replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
Very fitting genre for the original, and you pull this together quite well. Nice solos, and overall nice balance between all the instruments. Gotta say this isn't as inspiring as some of your other mixes, but overall it gets the job done (easily). YES -

The last surviving humans are forced to fight in the ruined city for the amusement of the Masters. These aliens also invaded a planet known as Kullrathe, where the Minotaur inhabitans are put into concetration camps and forced to play the "Hunter Hunted" game for the Masters amusement. The game is a sidescroller, where the player has to find the secret exit in each level. You can play as two characters, The human Jake, or the Minotaur Creature Garathe Den. In each level you fight enemies and complete various objectives. Comments: My Uncle gave me this game when I was about 4 years old, and being rather scarry game, I really enjoyed playing this game and the music in it at such a young age. I figured it would be cool to do my first ReMix on this game. -------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VOQBE61d4s

I wanted to sound a little bit like Skrillex. Then came in mind; That chrono song was playing in my head. It sounded like dubstep to me. So I started playing around with some Oscilliator and then came with 4 or 5 different bass style with their own texture. I all sampled it in wav then worked again on those sample. Now then, I was playing a little game of what bass come after this one and then how many time I change sample. It all sounded so dirty! Layered kick and hi hat added some snare/clap. ET voilà! After that everything placed in order and replayed the melody and changed some notes and added some time change signature! For the second part, I used Magus melody. It was as if I were pro (since I'm not!) and I sounded so cool on this one. With Hours of work, this is what I've done and wanted to submit it. Enjoy it and play it LOUD! Resub add: Well, the community is Huge and they helped me a lot. If this one pass, I wanna thank each member of the community that contributed to this mix by helping me with their feedbacks. Many Thanks! -----------------

Sonic & Knuckles 'Doomsday' Contact Information * Your ReMixer name: elzfernomusic * Your real name: Elliot Newman * Your website: http://elzfernomusic.wordpress.com/ * Your userid: 29760 Submission Information * Name of game(s) arranged: Sonic & Knuckles * Name of individual song(s) arranged: The Doomsday Zone * Link to the original soundtrack (if it is not one of the sound archives already available on the site): o The Doomsday Zone: * Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: Have always loved the source track, and although I knew that Sonic 3 & Knuckles has been remixed a lot in the past, I got an idea for this remix and just sort of ran with it. I've heard a lot of straight metal covers of Doomsday Zone in the past and figured it'd be an interesting experiment to slow the tempo and take away some of the "thrash" elements and replace it with groove based elements.

Hi dear Judges! Hope you're doing well! Contact Information Your ReMixer name: Chernabogue Your real name: Alexandre Mourey Your email address: chernabogue@gmail.com Your website: http://www.fflproduction.fr (not a music website, but a video one) Your userid: 20943 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Legend of Dragoon Name of arrangement: Where Snow Falls Forever Name of individual song(s) arranged: Crystal Palace Additional information about game including composer, system, etc: Dennis Martin, Takao Miratsu/PS1 Link to the original soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2mDWLKKnGM Your own comments about the mix: This mix was originally made for HoboKa's Legend of Dragoon project, but he decided to cancel it, as not enough people were interested/involved in. I wanted to make Crystal Palace sound quiet but dark, like a tomb of ice. My main inspirations were Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman and Oscar Araujo. I used EWQL Gold Orchestra, with a little touch of Colossus. Thanks to Zeroboros and Guifrog for their feedback, it was helpful! Link to the remix: I hope everything's okay! -Alex

Dear lovely people at OC ReMix... I trust today is treating you well! My ReMix is called 'Sandro's Skull Pile' and is both attached to this email and can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/lord-kilburn or should you prefer it, here: ReMixer name: Lord Kilburn Real name: Andy Clark Email address: lordkilburn@andyclarkpiano.co.uk Website: www.myspace.com/lord-kilburn Forum user ID: 44731 Name of game arranged: Heroes of Might and Magic 2 Name of individual songs arranged: Necromancer Town Theme Additional info: PC turn-based strategy game, 1996 3DO. Original composer to the tracks is Paul Romero Link to original music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRT-p3Du8F0 This is my 2nd submission (haven't received feedback from the 1st yet), from my self-comissioned project to remix some of the tunes from Heroes 2. In the 2 main sections I have kept quite faithful to the original in terms of chord sequence and (after some work) nailing that cracking arpeggiated piano riff - which comes back in towards the end using the synth. The final bit of piano is based on the riff, but I've changed the notation and style, somewhat Matt-Bellamy-esque. (Muse) When I did my first mix of this, I didn't think it was suitably scary enough to be associated with the Necromancer class... so i added some screams in the middle section. (Note... I didn't scream anything. Honest.) Another thing which bugged me for a while was the title... was trying my hardest to use the prefix 'Necro' but everything I came up with sounded too much like 'Necrophiliac', which isn't good for anyone's PR, yours or mine. I also thought of 'Necro-dancer' but that was utterly effeminate... So, I settled for Sandro's Skull Pile - Sandro being the name of a HOMM2 Necromancer Hero, and the Skull Pile being something you could purchase in the town. Anyway, hope you guys like it, keep up the good work and hope to hear from you soon (ish). All the best Andy Clark (Lord Kilburn)

Remixer: Gario Real Name: Gregory Nourse UserID: 22898 Game Arranged: Chrono Trigger Name of Arrangement: Zeal Feels Good Source: Corridor of Time Comments: Another Zeal remix. What is this, like the thirteenth one? Alright, I'm not normally a sucker for overly remixed tracks - I generally try to avoid them, in fact. However, much like another popular track I remixed a year ago it was due to the tides of the WIP boards. There were a bunch of Zeal tracks popping up out of nowhere, and I thought it would be funny to make yet another one appear on the board. Turns out that what started as a semi-joke track for me turned out to be very, very smooth and sexy, so I decided to give it a nice production spit-shine and give it up to you guys. This remix can be considered a homage to another remix of the same track - 8-bit Zeal by Nespus on OLR - so you can expect some sweet 8-bit tones in this one (you can even hear some sections that are very similar to Nespus' track - this was intentional to honor his track). The style is very much reminiscent of Halc's 9-bit style that he has going (congratulations on becoming a judge, by the way), although it's comparatively subdued. There's some bit crushing effects placed on the drums, and some compression effects throughout the track to give it the warm, comfortable tone that permeates throughout. I thought the record needle (from freesound.org) would be a nice touch to really set the old, warm tone that those gramophones tended to produce. The track is fairly long, but it flows from one part to another so well that I didn't have the heart to cut too much of it away. I hope you all feel the same way about it. Please, get lost in this track - it really is meant to be a feel good piece. P.S. As per all my tracks, if this is rejected I would appreciate a link to the track in the Judges Decisions thread. -------------------------

Zombies Ate My Neighbors. When I got to stage 2, "Evening of the Undead", I kept dying because I was utterly distracted by the quirky and insanely awesome music I was hearing and immediately got inspiration for my next remix. Lots of peeps who have been following my mixes have stated they want to hear me do something different from my usual over the top cinematic mixes.... well, this is a VERY different and quirky departure for me. I kept the mix intimate, and decided to go with a spy / jazz vibe for the whole thing with an upright bass and live guitar, which worked really well. Then end result is a remix extremely different from anything I've ever submitted in the past and full of quirky instrumentation / personality... yet it still retains some of my cinematic flare. Oh, and it's a bit longer than many of my other mixes too .

*NO* Donkey Kong Country 2 'Snowbox'
DragonAvenger replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
The boys have it. The lead feels a little dead, especially on the longer notes, and could use a little vibrato, and overall feels a little too pasted on top of the original stuff. I felt like the balance wasn't totally clear at times, and could use some tweaking to make sure the lead synth is heard the best. In the end, it's close, but you'd need to address the issues mentioned above. I'd like to hear this again! NO (resubmit) -
I'm a bit on the fence on this one, because of a few issues that are pulling it down. A lot of the arrangement ideas are fine, but I feel like they get overused and become repetitious. Along with that, the uninspired drumwork isn't helping out the situation. On the other hand, as I said, I like a lot of the ideas you have here, and the 80's feel is great. The soundscape reflects the pop textures, and you use the synths well for the genre. I'm curious what the other judges will say, but for now I'm going to say YES (borderline)

Halc nailed it, it's a really cool idea here, but once it gets going, its autopilot the rest of the way. Develop this more! NO (resubmit)

OCR02370 - *YES* Sonic Advance 'The Glacier's Peak'
DragonAvenger replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
Personally I love how you swung the rhythm; it adds a really fun bounce to the track and really makes it feel happy-go-lucky. Agreed with Andrew that it feels a little dry overall, which is a little distracting, but not a dealbreaker. Arrangement is conservative, but I think it gets the job done and has a decent amount of personalizing and expansion. YES -
Gotta agree with the gentlemen above; this stays fairly conservative, but I like the details you've added here. I thought it was pretty cool when you shifted the beat of the original to remove the pick-up notes and have it on the beat instead. Aside from that, I think you could have added a little more emotion with more rubato, as Andrew mentioned, but it still conveys a lot as is. YES
