  1. I still need to grab Denpa Men. The demo is pretty entertaining, I just have a backlog of stuff that I want to grab from the eShop/Virtual Console. I just grabbed Pushmo, for example, so I'm way behind the times. I can't wait until the late fall eShop push. Totally grabbing Ninja Gaiden and Zelda II. I don't know that I want to actually download retail games, though. Like I said before, I'd much rather be able to buy a physical copy of a game, then install it to the system if I'm spending that much green on it. Oh well... Pipe dreams and all that.

I'm still a little miffed that I lost all my previous 3DS licenses due to my own error, but dammit, I'll buy Link's Awakening DX 10 times if it means they'll finally release Oracle of Ages/Seasons on the Virtual Console. I also do really want Mega Man V GB... But I don't know how willing I am to buy Mega Man Dr. Wily's Revenge again...

  2. So I don't know how many of you caught the latest Nintendo direct, but Nintendo is really trying to take the eShop as far as they can with a deluge of stuff hitting it within the next few weeks including Virtual Console stuff like Wario Land 2 for the GBC, Ninja Gaiden and Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link for the NES, and new games such as Nightsky, Crashmo, Ikechan, and the Level 5 Guild games starting with Liberation Maiden, as well as a sizable update for Mutant Mudds.

I decided to take the plunge and grab the first Guild game for the $7.99 asking price, and the game is definitely worth said price. It's a relatively simple and short affair; you're the President of New Japan and you're takin' down baddies in an awesome mech armed with weapons used with the 3DS touch screen. It's relatively similar to Kid Icarus in terms of control scheme, although it's much more as if Grasshopper took the land controls of Uprising and mixed 'em with air battles. You'll be alternating between different weapons and special abilities, and overall the game just feels like a fun score attack shmup. It's pretty fun.

All of this in addition to Nintendo starting to release more and more retail games on the eShop, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing: A New Leaf, and more.

Still no NA announcement for Bravely Default though. I'm still a sad panda.

  3. Well thus far I've reinstalled Steam, updated my GTX 460 to the latest drivers, and tried out Sleeping Dogs again with Speedfan running. CPU was stable at around 43-44c, while the GPU seemed to be pretty high at around 65c, of course I had read before that GPUs were designed to run at much higher temps, so I figured that was fine. I had also read before that certain versions of nVidias graphics drivers pretty close to the one I had previously installed caused issues with the fan or something, so that might have had an adverse effect.

I was able to play through the Sleeping Dogs demo in its entirety without any problems at all other than some goofy framerate issue that had been reported by plenty of users before. I'm going to give Mass Effect 2 a shot since I don't have it through Steam to see how that goes for about an hour or so and report back. Thanks for the feedback so far, gang.

Oh and I haven't tried running the games through their .exes, although I'll give it a try if the issue persists. My case is also due for a cleaning as well. I'm actually also having a fan issue that I've had since I built the machine in that the side panel fan is obnoxiously loud. It could just be the way I have it screwed in, but I wonder if it might be a voltage issue or something? Thanks again, gang!

  4. Hey gang! So I'm having a strange issue that seems to just effect games that I launch with my Steam Client.

I'll be playing through either a demo of a game like Tomb Raider or Sleeping Dogs or even a retail game like Deus Ex, and after an undetermined amount of time(could be 10 minutes, could be an hour), the game locks up and all sorts of graphical tearing starts occurring. I'll force out of the game, only to see that the Steam window itself starts to become glitchy, and so does Google Chrome, which will crash and then never open again unless I restart the system.

Needless to say, this is quite vexing as a guy who is trying to get back into PC gaming. I've recently updated my GeForce drivers to the latest(302.72 or something I believe), but have yet to try anything out just yet. I had read previously that nVidia was having certain issues with previous driver versions, so that may have been the problem. Nevertheless, here are my system specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition unlocked to an X4 B55 at 3.5 ghz

    4GB DDR3 RAM

    eVGA GeForce GTX460 1GB DDR5

    Windows 7 Home 64-bit

I haven't tried testing the RAM yet as some leads have led me to, although I have found posts saying that it could be a DX11 issue, which strikes me as possible since I have never encountered this problem with Street Fighter X Tekken. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance, guys!

  5. I was under the impression with the 3DS that Nintendo was really trying to amp up their online presence, and that with the much more powerful Wii U they were going to take it even further. I guess "family friendly" side(more like paranoid gestapo) won out again on that front.

  6. There's a bit of Theatrythmn talk in the 3DS thread and I made a write up of it a few paragraphs long, although nothing more than a page or two. The general consensus is that if you like rhythm games and Final Fantasy music, then you'll love the hell out of the game as it's pretty addictive. If you're not fans of them however, then you probably won't be into it.

I don't really think there's a lot to be said about it other than it's pretty kewl, and goddamnit I still want to buy all that DLC.

  7. I agree with the article. The music business has never been easy to get into, and it was pretty damn hard to make it back in the "golden age" as well. Nowadays if you have the talent and passion, it's MUCH easier to yourself out there through the right channels than it ever was.

  8. In case any one was wondering what they were...

Most of them are simply ones you will get just by playing the game normally, and just require you spend some time doing them. It's the ones that require you to participate and interact with lots of other players that might be difficult, seeing how most of us don't live in large cities with high enough population densities that might result in such occurrences.

In the 15 years I've been playing Pokémon, I've only ever met about 4 or so other players, and I only ever managed to trade/battle/exchange game info about twice. So it seems kind of bullshit-unfair to be excluded from certain parts of the game simply because we don't have other players nearby.

It's Japan's own way of saying fuck American players.

  9. I think in the spirit of the season, I'll share one of my favorite memories of playing teh Pokemons.

So Pokemon Red and Blue came out when I was in the 7th grade, and at first it didn't have too much of a following at my school. Slowly but surely, however, this started changing after a few classmates grabbed Pokemon Red(I grabbed Blue because fuck Charizard), and after awhile there was a sizable amount of players from both 7th and 9th grades. This eventually led to some pretty heated matches between the grades at times, where it would sometimes be decided by whoever took out the opponents Mewtwo first.

I was playing a friendly match against a classmate of mine with a group of friends onlooking, and we had the biggest nerd moment possible. My friend brings out his Raichu, to which I respond with bringing out my Aerodactyl. Surprised, one of my friends said "dude why would you bring out a flying type against an electric? You're gonna get wailed on!" To which I camly replied as if straight out of the anime, "Aerodactyl is a dual type, so yeah he'd get wailed on under normal circumstances, but remember that he's ROCK as well, and what does ROCK do against electric?" Right at that moment I used some strong attack like rock toss or something(?), and sure enough, my friends Raichu was dead on the ground, which was followed by an exasperated "holy crap" by most of my classmates. We were IN the game at that moment.

So yeah, uber fun nerd moments. Any of you have any?

  10. I just pre-ordered Black 2.

I totally didn't even realize it released on Sunday, so I was waiting awkwardly while the gamestop employee I was talking to went to do some work stuff. Stood there for about 7 minutes before asking "hey dude, what about Pokemon?"; he laughed and then said "dude I thought you were just chilling out. Pokemon doesn't come out until next Sunday!" So we shared a laugh, then I went home feeling awkward.

Awesome start to a day. :-P
