  1. What I'm trying to say is...contacting the composer vs. contacting the company the composer works under...which is easier?

For the Pirates of the Caribbean remix that I did on my album, I contacted Disney to set up the licensing issues. It was relatively "easy," actually. They drew up the contract and sent it to me, I signed two copies and sent it back with a check. Contacting Klaus Badelt (or Zimmer) probably wouldn't have gotten me anywhere.

  2. I have a hard time watching and cheering for "judged" sports in general. There's just too much frustration involved when your score is based on judges who are easily swayed. I like how the new gymnastics scoring system seems to help to curb that a bit, but it's still not perfect by any means. I also saw rhythmic gymnastics for the first time today...wow, if there's anything that should not be a sport...

  3. Not to take a shot at Audix or anything, but this a pretty good example of what Mustin touched upon. The mentality of thinking that arrangements are originals with sound upgrades seems like the "OCR way of thinking" to me. I.E. If the arrangement hasn't steered X amount of distance from the source material, it's not OCR-quality, and not worth anyone's time (or so the mentality seems).

Nah, all I'm saying by the Smash Brothers soundtrack reference is that it sounds like stuff I've heard many times before as these franchises like to repackage newly produced versions of their old familiar melodies (smash brothers especially, fzero games, zelda, mario kart).

This is all beside the point, of course. Just because it doesn't necessarily appeal to me doesn't mean others won't enjoy it. Great musicianship, I'd love to see a live recording session.

  4. As covers, they are quality pieces of work. I dunno, I guess I just couldn't get over the feeling that I was just listening to the originals with sound upgrades (i.e. kinda like listening to a Smash Brothers soundtrack). At any rate, I wish the creators the best of luck with the project and as with Larry, hope it's fully licensed. :)

  5. How is Phelps doing anyways? I was watching the Olympics a bit, and saw him break the record for... mens 400m swimming? IDK, it was whatever the first medal he won was. I remember it said he had a shot at 8 golds, which would break the records for the number of golds in one olympics and I'm curious to see if he'll do it.

He's 2 for 2 so far. He already gold medaled the two toughest events he had to swim and is favored for the final 6 events he's in. Pretty cool.

  6. I like how the US set a world record for the 400m freestyle relay in swimming, without Phelps. Goes to show how AWESOME US swimming is.

US swimming is awesome, but Phelps was the lead man in the relay. :)

  7. As for the events, I really find them boring to watch. The medal standings are neat, but do I really need to watch people run really fast? Between that and all the annoying-as-hell commentary, you have a real bore on your hands. It's not only the Olympics - if anyone's ever tried to watch golf, you understand what I mean. Or baseball. Hell, the only three interesting sports to even watch are American football, football and hockey.

    Haha, wow.

Love sports, love the Olympics, and it's gonna be hard to get anything done with them on for the next two weeks. :<

  8. I think China will do very well this year, simply because they would be the only teams that have practiced in that wonderful, thick Beijing "mist" that covers everything.

All those countries with cleaner air are going to be fucked once they have to start breathing in that shit.

QFT. Apparently the index is at 94 right now (with a level of 100 being unfit for children and the elderly).

  9. Where this mix really shines, at least in my opinion, is the second part, starting at about 4:00. I love this part; it reminds me a lot of Pendulum.

Thanks, that was def my inspiration. :) What I love about this mix is how well our separate sections blended together. Basically, each of us took our own section and developed it separately from the others (except for the outro section, which all three of us worked on).

  10. Awwww shucks, I've listened to the awesome samples and I already want to get the CD, except I don't carry credit cards on me (And I'm generally very ignorant on how to buy stuff online). If anyone has anyway alternative ways or place i could by it, that would be most appreciated.

Hm, short of sending a check to sgx, I'm not sure how else we could swing that. Wish I could just tell you that you could just run over to Wal-Mart and pick it up. :( Thoughts Danny?
