  1. yeah I think the arp bit was too distracting, so I changed it around a bit. ...and also changed some stuff but forgot what. (long week.) (version 4.1) feedback? is it even ok to doublepost with little changes like this? hrm...
  2. oooh, good ear. Swapped it out for something that's hopefully less grating. I also added a bunch more Pogo influence (ie, chopped up orchestral stuff) towards the end, and another layer of synth here and there...hopefully it sounds less sparse now. I'm a bit worried that the background synth arp action is distracting @ 1:40 - 2:11, but I think it may just be me. Besides that, I think this mix is pretty much complete. thanks for the comments so far.
  3. This mix mostly fell into place over the course of 48 hours. [/false] original: you only need to listen to the first minute or so before it starts looping. mine: (version 8.) Submitted! breakdown: the original has three parts (pretty much yeah): 0:00 - 0:19 = (part a) three chords 0:19 - 0:38 = (part toybox melody 0:38 - 0:58 = (part c) keyboard rolls my song uses each piece like so: 0:00 - 0:11 = a (very loosely) 0:11 - 0:43 = a 0:43 - 1:14 = b 1:14 - 1:29 = c 1:29 - 1:45 = a 1:45 - 2:15 = a...some more 2:15 - 2:29 = c 2:29 - 3:16 = b other notes and such: My main concern is that everyone will find it repetitive and boring. I was aiming for a chill-out-esque thing...something between Aphex Twin's "Cliff", "Xtal", and [insert anything Pogo has ever created here]. fun fact: my sister introduced the original song to me AND provided the vocal bits when I said I was going to remix it.
  4. oh hey, a birthday thread with my name on it...that I noticed! What a rarity. In a tradition I recently invented, I make a song every year for my birthday. This year, I made a remix, which you may hear more about later. So, instead, have this song I made for my birthday last year: http://toastbeard.comli.com/stuff/purple_river_v2.mp3 thanks for all the birthday wishes and things.
  5. *guilty* I entered the previous ORC because I heard the melody of the song and thought: "that would sound perfect with __blank__ and __blank__ changes." This round, I listened to the original song and no such ideas came to mind. and so... :\
  6. hmmm...I'd like to take a swing at this. I'm not sure about working without a midi or something similar, but I'll play with it.
  7. Yeah, about that: progress on the song was going slow and the deadline was approaching quickly. And so... Anyway, I always like feedback on my music, even if it's belated.
  8. I sent a PM some time ago with no responce, so to post in thread: Would you please change my name to just "sci"? (no quotes etc etc) Thanks.
  9. I don't feel this is worth submitting (mostly because it is short), but I love feedback. So, http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=575 any thoughts/feedback/critiqueism?
  10. Has nobody seriously noticed this yet? (Spectrum view from 4:00 to 4:12.) The scaling is a little off, but it's pretty obvious that Skrypnyk is being sneaky here.
  11. So, randomly one day....I decided I wanted to attempt to sequence something....for a saxaphone. This happened: http://www.mediafire.com/?fazrrndujdn I'd like some feedback....in peticular: does the sax sound ok? does the the flute sound ok? are the drums too cluttered? does the transition between the flute and the sax flow well enough? and....just plain: do you like it? (: (also, note: I'm not sure about the hosting....but it seems to work...)
  12. I only skimmed through this, but it answered a number of questions I was going to ask. Spiff. And stuff.
  13. I start out by lsitening to the song as it was in the game. I also look for other songs that could blend into whatever targeted song I have. After that, I grab a midi and use that as a guide to get whatever's floating in my mind out...which is kinda fun because I think abstractly, and have almost no idea what the end result will sound like untill I actually hear it. "Hmm...that's not what I was expecting...I like it."
