  1. There are some pretty cool ideas here. I like the atmosphere you've got going on in the background, and the use of xylophone (marimba?) was pretty cool. Gives the song a very different feel from the original while still being recognizable, so good job there.

I think the bass is probably the standout problem here...it's too deep, too loud, and it drowns everything else out. The drums are pretty boring, but I'm not sure it's because of the repetition. I think it might sound better if the pattern was a bit more intricate, maybe with some little auxilary percussion parts - especially once the xylophone comes in. And the first lead you have playing the main melody is a bit too muted sounding I think. Personally I'd go with something a bit brighter.

  2. This is definitely my favourite game ever. I set up my snes a couple months ago to play through it again for the first time since I was like 8 years old and it was weird because I sort of instinctively knew where all the secrets and hidden chests were without actually knowing what I was doing.

Still can't get 100 super jumps though.

  3. I think it's overcompressed

It definitely is. If you listen to pretty much anything by Justice you'll notice that it's a big part of their sound. Actually, in a way this isn't compressed enough compared to Justice since I tried to avoid gain pumping which they use a lot.

I think the harshness of the sounds is partly due to the fact that I haven't figured out a way to get the sounds I was looking for without abusing the waveshaper. If I can fix that up and figure out an actual arrangement for this then I may have something here.

    Thanks for the comments everybody.

  4. This is alright...I think one of the things that makes this song difficult to remix is that it is very repetitive but you don't really notice it because it's awesome. It's kind of a problem here though and the song is pretty static throughout. The arrangement could be an issue as well since it is very similar not only in terms of structure but the kinds of sounds you're using.

As far as production goes, I think you could definitely tone down the reverb a bit. It's tolerable in the intro but once the melody comes in - which is buried pretty far back as it is - it lacks impact. I think that could also have something to with the fact that the string sample is weak and, in my opinion, not a great choice for the melody in the first place.

  5. If you drag a sample from Edison into the FPC for example it will automatically put it in sliced beats and call it Dragged sample #1 or something.

I don't know if there's a way to change the folder it saves to. I've always just exported the project files to a dedicated sample folder for that particular project.

  6. working link

I've been trying to remix this song for awhile now, so I'm curious to hear your take on it...

ok doesn't sound like there's a lot here yet. This sounds like one big intro as it is right now. The first minute are pretty sparse and it might be a good idea to bring in the drums earlier or something.

I don't know, this sounds like too early a WIP to really comment on. Keep working on it though, we need a remix of this song on this site.
