because i half-jokingly said something like 'or you could just pirate it ' you know, because i assumed most of you were at least a little cool and wouldn't go so far as to permanently BAN someone because they casually mentioned the act of pirating. not where to get it or how to get it, just the fact that it exists. oh right because when someone gets caught it's usually because they mentioned pirating something on the fucking ocremix.org forums right? another thing that refuses to change here: most of the forum members are gigantic faggots.

I'm looking to buy an external recording interface for my Macbook Pro. I'd like to take advantage of my Firewire 800 port, which is significantly faster than the common Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 connections. I'm going to guess that I won't have much luck, considering I ran a search on zzsounds for "Firewire 800" and it only gave me one result (some high-end interface) Any help would be appreciated My budget is something like $200. thanks so much for the replys analoq and tweek, they helped a bunch. i think the best thing for me to do is just buy the stuff i need/want and just figure out how it all works together, then take it from there. that's more fun anyway

mostly loops, im not sure how most sets are done but in my head im thinking, basically build a set beforehand with loops kind of as a base, then while live, create more loops on the fly and maybe incorporate some live instruments too. also using controllers to mess around a lot with effects/mods, etc. it will be just me for now, although it would be nice to collaborate with some other people in the future. i do know a few musicians who play live instruments and might be willing to contribute or just jam out and stuff...

I've been thinking of branching out of remixing and doing crap in my bedroom to performing live for others and stuff. I'd at least like to give it a shot. My experience with remixing/producing is pretty much confined to software synths. I have a single midi controller ( oxygen 8 ) and other than that, I make all my stuff with a keyboard and mouse. My questions: 1) What kind of equipment should I look into getting for performing live? I have a great laptop I can use but I'm not too familiar with the more technical side of sound engineering(?) and how stuff all gets wired together and whatnot. Like I said I've only used a computer and a MIDI controller so far in my 3 or 4 years of making music. It's 99% electronic, but I'm thinking of eventually picking up some instruments and incorporating those into live sets farther down the road once I get more comfortable with it. 2) Software? Right now I'm using ableton live and, if I'm feeling like something different, I'll rewire reason through it. Other than that, what do you suggest? 3) Books/resources? Like I said, I'm not too keen on the technical side of this stuff. My process now is something like: I play around until something sounds good, then I move on to more elements of the song and miraculously end up with a finished song (sometimes). To sum it up: I want to take my music to the next level (performing live) and I have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance

im surprised no one's mentioned the squidfont orchestral soundfont... it's free, and it's pretty damn good. http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/ edit: okay okay, it's not nearly as good as those programs you can buy for hundreds of dollars that almost perfectly emulate an orchestra... but for free, it might be the best soundfont you'll find.

hello hello first of all, i'd like to say i love the site and all the invaluable information that i've been finding on the forums. now, i've been producing music (very casually) for uh... maybe 6 years now. just you know, messing around with fruity loops, reason, ableton live, etc. i've never got really hardcore into producing stuff, but its kind of been a dream of mine in the back of my mind recently i bought a new Macbook Pro. It's my first laptop, and i'm very very pleased with it. i bought it mainly for graphic design/ web design stuff, and also because i just moved in to a new apartment with my girlfriend and one desktop between the both of us just isnt cutting it. here's the basics, if it matters: 2.33ghz intel core 2 duo 2gb ram 100gb hdd so far, producing on it is sooooo much more fun than doing stuff on my pc desktop. i can't really put my finger on it, but there's something about macs and OSX that makes me feel more productive and creative (im sure you mac owners know what i mean). so, i've been thinking of upgrading it a bit to get more serious into producing. i'm kind of a noob when it comes to pro audio stuff; i know almost nothing about the hardware (MAYBE a bit about basic synths and stuff), and i know very little about software (only stuff learned from messing around with 3 or 4 apps in my free time for the last 5-6 years). first off, i guess i should get a sound card or some type of audio interface. i can't get an internal one, because my MBP has one of those smaller pc card slots... i think it's kind of a new technology and its not supported yet by too many products. after reading the 'what soundcard should i use?' thread, i'm thinking about getting this, with the microphone deal: http://www.zzounds.com/item--NINAUDIOKONTROL i dont really record live instruments much at all, but ive been meeting some musicians lately and i'd love to have the option to record some vocals or anything else, should the opportunity arise. regardless of if i go with this deal or not, i definitely would like to get a good quality mic. the only problem with that particular interface is my budget. i was really hoping to get something more around $100-$120. is this possible or would it be a waste to upgrade with something in that price range? also, what else would you suggest (hardware-wise) that i could buy to enhance my producing experience? right now all i have is an oxygen 8. and an internal microphone. haha. i've been thinking i want to get a bit more 'hands on' with making music, not just pointing and clicking for hours until something comes out. one last thing!! so i don't bog you nice folks down with questions and noob crap, are there any educational resources i can check out for very beginner level producing/pro audio/mixing/synths/hardware and crap? It sure is. The best example I can think of off the top of my head is Sepultura's "Slaves of Pain". Reverse-delayed vocals are awesome. -steve Reverse delay is done differantly though. If you'd apply the same technic of reverse reverb with a delay you'd get an ascending delay. (wich is cool none the less). Anyone know how to do a reverse delay without haveing a reverse delay software? Reverse Delay Software??? ?????????

wait. i think some people might have misunderstood (or maybe my fault for not explaining too well) the reverb comes BEFORE the sample played. and it sounds reversed (or maybe it just 'fades' in). there is nothing after the sample. know what i mean? i think Phntm of the Opra's example was just the thing i'm thinking of. plus like, i know this can be done with some simple chopping and cutting up but there HAS to be an easier way, some effect or something because there's no way it would be used as much as it is if it were THAT tedious to do... that's what i'm asking if anyone knows

I guess that's what it is... the best example I can think of is the effect Phil Collins uses on his vocals in "in the air tonight" (yeah yeah i know...) but it's been in a lot of other stuff. I'm sure you know what I mean. How is it done?

you can if you : clone the channel twice adjust the shift on each channel/step accordingly... i think if you maybe did one of them at 1/3 and the other at 1/2 or 2/3 or some crap i don't know, but i used to do that before i used the piano roll, haha

Help! I came home from work one day... and my FLstudio stopped working. I try to open it, it shows the splash screen and then does the windows critical error thing. I've tried everything - uninstall, reinstall, install in a different directory, clean up my registry, scanned for spyware, virus scan, etc. and nothing works! I can't do a system rollback because there isn't a recovery point for any time before the date it stopped working. I didn't install anything or make any major changes before or around the time it stopped working. does anyone know how i can fix this? its driving me so crazy im thinking of just reformatting...argh
