Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Round 71: CV: Circle of the Moon - Tower Midi: http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/MnP71_(tower).mid Youtube: "It's a version of Vampire Killer in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and I chose it because it's my favorite song from the game." -Chalis Deadline: April 11 @ Tues 1 PM Vote Ends: April 13 Thurs @ 11 PM Submit your remix Here when completed. **If you have technical difficulty with account activation at ThaSauce, please contact me via PM and I will submit your track and will also tally your vote** MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max). Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded. BONUS entries are exempt of this rule. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

APZX's BONUS: "Egalic" Nice use of Obeirman synths there. That pitch bendy synth reminds me so much of Axiom Verge - and your percussion work is probably the most MNP of all 3 of us - very Halo-ish sounding, which is good. Lots of nice reverb/delay effects on it and it is VERY robust. That bass is nice too. Cool reverb kick too.
-
Thanks for providing feedback for both of us APZX. EDIT Oh! Forgot to comment on your BONUS thar. Gotta re-listen to it...
-
Chalis has 1 more day to submit me a source tune, otherwise it's MY pick. Muahahaha!!
-
Whew sorry for the delay. I'm gonna hand the round to Chalis. Feedback: "Step into the Future" is well, it's very liberal, but I'll grant that the MIDI was quite limited AND it's difficult to emulate an expensive pitch bending vocal sample. The percussion also felt off the mark when stacked against the source tune - BUT that being said, I thought the sound design was an interesting idea - something befitting an original chill-out oldschool electro-pop jive. Thanks for participating Chalis! Chalis, please PM me for round 71.

Intermollesting.......might take that avenue with MnP as well. Watcha think Bundeslang??
-
Now that is an interesting idea...wasn't even aware there was an OC Discord group lol!
-
First. Sneaky sub!!

HoboKa replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Thanks mate. I appreciate that too, gotta keep PRC alive too y'know. I'll have to participate more often...my schedule should allow for that at least for a small time. -

The Mixit Challenge (original music/sample manipulation)
HoboKa replied to PhonicB∞m's topic in Competitions
I know this post is old, but this idea is pretty nifty. I'm thinking it might be better to make "The Mixit Challenge" an actual competition as this IS the competition Sub-Forum. The idea is pretty cool though! As for samples, do you mean primarily .wavs and soundfonts (and similar derivatives)?? It'd be hard to provide VSTs - but might be do-able, if they're free. Care to elaborate on what you mean by "pooling samples"?? Thanks! -
Submitted, albeit that is a matter of subjectivity. Anyone care to try and kick me off the throne? Feeling a bit lonely atop that hill. Hah!
-
1 week to go, 0 entries. That might change Saturday or Sunday, cuz I'll probably participate
-
That happened to me with several mixes too, particularly on my older PC. Its shitty when that happens T_T

Cool, listening now. Follow me back nigga. I'll post comments on your SoundCloud EDIT Yeahhh...WAIT - it feels more like something from the Ultima with that funky brass...WAIT oh there we go 1:27 onward feels more like something from Metroid Prime, which is a very good thing lol. I'm digging the shtuff after 1:27, especially at the 2:45/3:00 ish area, oh man. 3:20, is a kick ass wub wub break down. This sorta reminds me of AM2R (Hydro Station) LOL! Lots of neat subtle touches, 4:00 is really cool too with the popcorny/plucky synths. 4:36 to end is pretty cool. Over all, I'd say this remix is kinda like a real sexy chill-out cyber-punk remix - best way for me to describe it. IDK if it's OCR material, but does it have to be?? "Vectoral Exploration" is a pretty swag remix already - I'd say improve upon what you've got already and maybe make the 1:27 area a bit more recognizable to the source??? IDK...just throwing some darts in the darkness
-
Cyber Mower was you??? Totally didn't realize, I love that remix!! Can I hear your FFVIII's Blue Fields/Serene Pastures remix? You can post in here or via PM, doesn't matter to me. Upper Brinstar can be a cunt to work with, as it's difficult to improve upon something that is already a masterpiece haha...got at least 1 NO'd remix of that source material too, so go figure. I'm sure Valkyrion remix will present itself when it wants, or it may never - umm...maybe approach it as a cover-mix at first, then add subtle changes as you go?? Might evolve into something cool.

SAME HERE MAN...most poignantly was my Sonic CD collab-remix "Titillating Tempest" - the panel's chief argument was that it didn't have enough source material...that argument coulda swung both ways if I really felt like time-stamping everything and putting forth my own argument, but IDK if it's worth the stress and time to do so. Jordan Etienne/Damashi and Xenon Odyssey worked their asses off for it, if not even more I did. Makes me kinda wish that we could petition for a second-opinion with entirely fresh ears on the joojing side of things. Also, on another weird ass tangent, I feel that shit tons of super liberal interpretations do pass the panel. I bet EVERY solid remixer has experienced that it at least once - where they and other people know that their remix was pretty solid, yet the panel just had to jdfgt it too much.
-
Aye, the struggle is real man... OCR standards are pretty friggin' high bar and many brothers and sisters have been left huddling in the trenches, shell-shocked and nursing bruised egos...I and a few other people (won't list names, because I don't really feel like stirring the pot), spoken with agree that the bar is too high for casual hobbyists - I mean look at the NO list in the Judge Thread...I find it a very saddening sight. Granted some remixes truly are terrible - being off-tempo, off-key (etc), pure sonic despair encapsulated... But I'd like go to out on a limb and say that those cases are pretty rare. Don't quote me on that though lol! Also, back in the day, there was ThaSauce and VG Mix for the average shmuck who just wanted to faff about, but...well that pretty much just leaves it to the compo scene and YouTube I guess. On the PLUS side, the feedback on this site is MOSTLY very sound and it will help you to grow if you really invest the time and effort to do so. It all boils down to what you wanna with it.

I might compete as well. Depending on my level of anxiety and energy and time and stuff x_x

Alright 69'ers, we're moving on to round 70, so pull up your MasterChief Bootstraps, grab your pulse rife, rocket launcher, rubber ducky and adult diapers - get ready for a rough landing to pierce the stratosphere at 400 g's onto the next round....

Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Round 70: Halo 2 - Impend Midi: http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/MnP70_Halo_2--Impend.mid Youtube: "Moving up to Halo 2 and there is a wonderfully foreboding piece titled, Impend. The MIDI to it. I mean enjoyed the game a ton, and I know it was popular. Amazingly the actual music for most of the game is super simple. This should be interesting. Plus there is no need to try and figure out how to get a guitar now hehe." -APZX Deadline: March 26 Sun @ 1 PM Vote Ends: March 28 Tues @ 11 PM Submit your remix Here when completed.
