    As well as Wikipedia

Although a double pedal will help conserve space, drum resonance is affected by having two beaters playing one drum which is why many drummers, particularly, nearly all of the well-known practitioners, will opt for the classic two bass drum setup

    think you're wrong ;)

anyway I don't want to turn this into an argument, I figure the way you said will be the easiest way to simulate a double bassdrum. :D

  2. You can post your WIP here I guess. Good to see that even the people that don't post frequently are working hard, I'm looking forward to hearing your WIP

Oh and the art looks definitely good, I can totally picture Sephiroth headbanging with hair like that

Looking forward to seeing more detailed sketches.

It would actually be pretty funny to see Sephiroth wearing tight leather pants, so maybe that's an idea you can incorporate to give him the true Heavy Metal look

  3. ed]Well, now, lets not get carried away  . Don't forget that no characters in this album will be in the next one. Anything done with Bowser, for example, has to be done now.

I did think of fronting it off with Majora's Mask, which I have recently developed an obsession with. I don't know, it's just very... interesting. Anyone else have that? Great game, very mysterious, very engrossing gameplay. Something about it just gets your stare, pulls you down into a blackness you can't break away from...

    ...huh? Where'd I just go?

Well I have it (not on emulator mind you, good old N64 is the way to go! ), and In My Very Humble Opinion Majora's Mask was a BIT inferior compared to Ocarina Of Time. Yes, Majora was extremely cool, with all the transforming and time travel, but there's definitely a reason Ocarina Of Time at one point was elected best 3d game ever. I didn't for example like the fact Majora's mask only contained 4 bosses (5 counting the final one), compared to the 8 (or how much were there?) in OoT.

Anyway, the blackness you were talking about, I get that with all the zelda games, that's a natural reaction of a human being playing a zelda game

  4. What would be the best procedure to simulate a double bass-drum, as used in metal songs?

I'm guessing loading up 2 slightly different bass drum samples, panning them both really slightly to either side, and set the rhythm so they alternate each other, should work, but I might be wrong. Has anyone ever done something similar in reason before?

i just play it faster. maybe you don't really know what double bass is - it's just two beaters striking the same drum. maybe make the second stroke of each two-group slightly lower in velocity, but i usually just do the rhythm and don't really change anything. you don't even need two samples. just do the right rhythm on the kickdrum sample and you'll be fine. because of the nature of a normal double-bass setup, there's no real difference in each strike at all.

Well I do know that usually it's two beaters and one drum, but I thought generally bands who have the money for it really use 2 bass-drums, rather than one with 2 pedals, but I suppose you're right

  5. I demand that there is a voice clip of Kefka saying "momma's boy" in you sephiroth theme, Tensei

In an ideal world I would have the exact same latin chorals as the original, except each time they would sing "Sephiroth" it'd be replaced by "Mama's Boy"

It even has exactly the same amount of syllables

  6. ed]YES. A must. I saw that, and couldn't stop laughing. It would go something like this:

    [Musical Style] (of/for) (a/the) Mama's Boy.

In Latin, of course, it'll sound much cooler.

hm, that would make something along the lines of

" Requiem pro pueri matris" although my latin is a bit rusty after three years so I'm not completely sure

    Sounds pretty cool though

  7. ah geez, I just remembered that Big Bad Baby Bowser from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island would have made one hell of a remix.

I could totally picture that with dual wailing guitars, rapid slap bass, a cool hammond organ, and high speed drums. Maybe it's a good idea for volume 2

  8. Can you only export as Midi? Well, I suppose that the WIP forum on our site would be the place to post it.

well I could go through all the trouble of 'dressing up' the bit I've got right now in Reason and stuff, but the main instruments, namely the guitars, won't sound any better than in midi, so I guess I should just save myself the trouble. It's not really an official WIP yet, more like a small illustration of the idea I've been having for this mix.

Well, If thats so, just post it.

Posted, gimme some feedback, guys!

  10. Well I'm not exactly volunteering to do it (have my hands full of the sephiroth theme at the moment anyway), but I definitely would be willing to collab on it with someone else, since I'm able to provide some decent guitar. Could you put me down in the instruments section under the electric guitar by the way?

Could I collabarate with you on this? My hands are pretty full as well (Andross's theme was a bitch until quite recently - I had to work out all the notes myself), But I think I know what I could to do to make a kick ass backing track out of this, and then combined with your live guitar playing, it would just be all kinds of awesome

Well, if you have the inspiration, go for it!

I dont really have the time to come up with a full arrangement right now, but I'd be glad to help you make the guitar track, as well as performing it :)

On a completely unrelated note; I've taken a rather 'experimental' path with my sephiroth remix (lots of dissonance, polyrhythms and stuff), so would it be alright if I posted a midi to kind of demonstrate the general idea, just to make sure it isn't a bit 'too much'? If so, where should I post it? :D

  11. ed]Yeah, ok. I'll take you off. Just remember, that whoever gets a WIP in first, you, or otherwise, is the one that claims that track. Should I keep you under "interested"?

Ill be honest, Im looking forwards to a seriously kick-ass guitar remix of the R/B Champion theme.

Oh and my sephiroth mix is coming along nicely, it's not exactly going to be marilyn manson, but it's definitely gonna be ominous enough to fit sephiroth ^^

On the same note: does anyone know of a way to get the sampled vocals from OWA?

  12. ed]
hmm, this is just a question out of curiosity, but is Sephiroth's theme reserved for someone? I would have thought that that would be one of the first ones to be picked.

Also, Sephiroth has a plethora of themes, I'm assuming you mean One Winged Angel? Could it be mixed with other similar themes like the Jenova theme and the Bizarro sephiroth theme?

I have to think about it whether I'd pick one of the remaining tracks to mix, but I'd be more than happy to provide Rhythm and Lead guitar for anyone interested, so you can write me down for that, if you please :D

Edit: Ah screw it, I lied, put me on for sephiroth please, I'd be damned if I wasn't interested :D

Yeah, sure. If you're a guitarist, it can only mean good things. I mentioned this a few pages back, and a few pages before that, but more than one of Sephiroth's themes would be included, because of the amount of times Squeenix has redone it themselves. Jenova's theme and Bizzaro Seph's theme would both count.

One idea a friend of mine had an idea, to do the whole thing all Marilyn Manson -y, with crazy ass, demonic latin lyrics, that no one would be able to understand, in that gutteral, demonic voice. You know what I mean? If not, well, the choice is yours, not mine.

Sleepy Emp, that was amazing. Thats all I can really say. Downright incredible.

Well the Marilyn Manson thing sounds like a good idea, even though I only have some basic idea of how his songs are, so I'll have to listen a bit more to him, but I think it will make a great remix.

About the lyrics, I'd definitely need some kind of lyricist able to do grunting and screams, but fortunately there's enough time to find one since I can just start with the arrangement and add the

    vocals last.

Anyway, I'll start working on it this afternoon, and come up with a WIP to demonstrate the general idea as soon as possible ^^

  13. Tensei I wouldn't mind taking you up on the offer for the guitar. But can you really play that fast? The tempo is 140 and u would ripping 16th notes all over the place. The reason I haven't asked anyone is bc I don't know if anyone here could hit that range of notes that fast.

If you were interested, I wouldn't need the guitar until I have finalized the arrangement.

In the meantime I'll keep messing around trying to get it too sound more realistic. I think I've overprocessed the guitar samples, along with everything else in this song.

The rythm's are varied, I'll try to give the song some more defined slow down periods.

Well as far as I can hear, the hardest part is the scale run at 0:25, which I'm confident in being able to play, and the other fast parts you're referring to are mostly repeated patterns, so I think I am up to the challenge. :D

If you could send me the midi or upload it somewhere I'd be grateful ^^

  14. Well at first I really grinded my teeth upon hearing the guitar. Even though the patch used is relatively decent, bringing the guitar out as prominently as this really reveals it's synthetic nature (besides hurting the ears of course :D). The worst part are the few tremolo notes at 0:19 which sound extremely unrealistic and machine-gun-like.

Luckily the guitar is a bit more subdued when the main part starts, so it doesn't draw too much attention. The synthy patches sound relatively decent, and the arrangement seems good enough, though you probably need some kind of sense of development, a change of rhythm would be extremely welcome.

Well, I hope my suggestions are of any help, and maybe I could even record the guitar part if you're having trouble making it sound realistic enough. :D

  16. I've recently bought this piece of hardware, and after some trouble installing it, it's more or less working.

I have connected my guitar to it, and have my headphones in the corresponding socket to test it out, but it actually does things the other way around that I want them to: Rather than music etc. being played through fasttrack, they're still played through the on-board speakers of my laptop. In addition, when I play my guitar, i can hear it through my headphones, but it's unprocessed, rather than being sent to my laptop as it would If I would plug my guitar directly into my laptop.

Sorry for the confusing explanation, but I'll sum up what I want to achieve:

    - I want my guitar input to be sent through fasttrack to my laptop where I can process it in my amp simulation software.

    - If possible I want to have the output signal of my laptop run through fasttrack to my headphones/speakers (use it as an external soundcard)

Does anyone have an idea how I should set everything up to achieve these things? Any suggestion is welcome :D

EDIT: Things seem to be working now, but there's still a problem, I get latency times of like 2 seconds, and the sound quality is about as bad as with a direct line-in into the mic socket, I hope there's some solution for this and it's not meant to be this way, cause that would seriously suck.

  17. The Chiptune-like sound is a decent intro, but after a while it really starts getting on my nerves, so maybe you should change the melody it plays, or utilize it much less.

Personally, I really don't see where you're heading with this remix, I actually felt like sitting in a big control room chock full of beeping computers.

But seriously, you should try to implement something like a main theme that holds it all together. The Beeping sound really distracts from the melodies, especially since it's not in the same key as the melodies.

It's kinda hard to explain, but it just doesn't sound very well altogether. Good luck with it anyway!
