Glad you like it. I plan on incorporating Gentle Rain and And Then There Were None as part of this later on, since they're so similar. Hopefully I can polish it enough to submit to the judges. Duster's theme has always been one of my favorite songs in the entire series. Honestly, it was the music that got me so interested in trying out the Mother series, and Mother 3's soundtrack is so expansive and rich, especially for a gameboy advance game.

The music is what got me into the Mother series as well! In early 2008, around the time Brawl came out, I loved the Mother tracks present in that game so much that I hunted for music from the series online. I download the official Mother 1+2 arrangement album and Mother 3+/3i -- those quickly became my regular listening material for months and they helped me through a really dark time in my life. When I played EarthBound for the first time in October of the same year, it singlehandedly changed my life. It's been nearly 10 years since then and I can honestly say the game truly, significantly influenced myself to become a better person. Definitely my favorite game of all-time. Mother 3 is a magical experience, too, and I love it just as much in some ways.

You're absolutely right about the Mother 3 soundtrack on that note--it's incredibly emotional and very intricate, not to mention it's as eclectic as can be in every way possible. For being a midi soundtrack running off the GBA's speaker, that's quite a feat!

  2. I don't have any critiques (I have very limited EQ/mastering experience myself), but I just wanted to say I love this!!! The arrangement is very nostalgic-sounding and instantly brings me back to the beginning of Chapter 2. There's something very magical about the Mother series in general, but Shogo Sakai's Mother 3 soundtrack is one of the crown gems in my eyes -- nice to see someone do this track justice. ^_^

I think it does work; sure, there is a lot you could in theory do with it, but I personally don't think it's necessary.

  3. Thanks! I appreciate the kind words, it truly means a lot ^_^

I'm working on my most ambitious piece yet. It's an improv piece on a wooden board (length and width of about 2½ feet). The drawings in this thread took maybe 3 hours each, but I've already invested about 5 hours on this board (it's probably only 20% filled). I'm proud of how it's turning out so far but it's a real doozy for sure. It'll probably be my most diverse collage yet!

  4. This is something I whipped up spontaneously a couple of weeks ago. I feel like it has potential, though I'm not sure where else to go with it in the meantime. I figured I'd post it here to see what you guys think:

^ any feedback is super welcome. :D

Edit: changed the name to match a piece of art I recently drew--and I updated the WIP!

  5. Hi all, just wanted to bump this thread. The links in my initial post have expired (postimg has changed hosts--I fixed the links) and I wanted to share both of these which were both whipped up yesterday:

^ I also wanted to share this August 2016 doodle which I'll replace with a better-quality version once I get it back from my friend (this one was just a photograph--all of these were scanned).

  6. Thanks a lot! I'm not sure what you'd call it; I referred to it as "ink pen art" as I'd composed these with an ink pen on standard computer paper.

In any case, I'll be working on more soon so I'll be sure to post them. Thanks again for the kind words everyone.

Edit: how in the world did this topic get so many views? O_O

  7. Thanks all, I really appreciate the feedback. (I forgot I even made this thread!)

Any suggestions with different themes I should implement? I'm kind of stumped when it comes to art; I don't feel like I'm all that creative.

  8. I like how the cover art has Geno using Geno Whirl against Exor! That's awesome.

Super Mario RPG is one of those rare games that I have a particularly strong connection with even though I wouldn't necessarily call it one of my favorite games. It tends to randomly show up in my life sporadically -- and sometimes it comes at just the right time. For me, in its own unique way, I would say SMRPG is a Pick Me Up. It's one beautiful game that's for sure; its soundtrack is sheer creativity. I need to bust out my SNES and play it again sometime soon.

As for this album, it's interesting. I've found that the whole thing is enjoyable as a whole. I felt there aren't as many standout tracks as other albums, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've only heard the album once all the way through so maybe I'm missing some tracks, but here are my favorites:

Oyster Me Timbers - Hylian Lemon, Phonetic Hero
This was the first track that I checked who remixed it; my reaction was "wow, what an interesting interpretation of the source theme, who did this?"

Just One Wish - Doc Nano
This is simply beautiful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for remixing this.

Variations in Melancholy Minor - zykO
When I first saw the tracklist I noticed zykO's track was 7 minutes long and I knew I was in for a surprise. This track is just, wow! To me the story it tells is just wonderful; it's as if the instruments all have their own distinctive personalities and are in hiding initially, only to come out and embrace one another in harmony as the track progresses. There's something about zykO, and his beautiful music, that speaks deeply to me. Variations is really story-like in the way it's composed and that appeals to me strongly.

    Riptide Rush - Argle
Within hours (half a day?) of Theory of N creating the initial SMRPG album thread in March 2013, I'd said something along the lines of "whoever claims Let's Go Down the Wine River will be blessed with my eternal love." I ended up really really loving the track. It's epic! Thanks, Argle! Great use of water sfx towards the beginning.

Honky Town - Wiesty feat. XPRTNovice
I can't quite put it into words but the amount of life this track exerts is astonishing! Great job!! There was one bit that initially made me "??????? that's so familiar, where is it from?" and right now, right away, it dawned on me it's from Chrono Trigger, one of the few tracks I have heard from the game (which is odd as I own the SNES cartridge; haven't bothered playing it yet but it's on my to-do-list!)

The track order's a bit questionable. Do you guys feel the need to swap things out of logical order for some reason? Barrel Volcano as track 1-03 is a strange choice. It's a late game track that is unanimously remembered as being one of the last legs of your journey. Why is there another entire disc after the final boss track? ? ? Similarly, this happened on FFIX's album with Melodies of Life too, plopped in the middle of the set. I don't understand the motivation. It's not interesting, it doesn't help the flow (complete opposite, in my opinion), and it tempts me to rearrange tracks personally.

Huh, I kinda want to make my own version of the tracklist for this very reason. While to me the current tracklist is not a deal breaker in the slightest (I enjoyed the album a lot), I can't help but feel that an album's tracklist is one of the main driving forces behind its success, as much as the content itself, if that makes sense? I kind of want to arrange the tracks as I personally see fit just to see how it'd go but I probably won't... or if I do I won't permanently arrange them that way. I'm ok with the way things are now.

During the production of the Donkey Kong Country 3 project, Emunator and I crafted the tracklist very carefully over a long sequence of time. We listened to the finished tracks + work-in-progresses, in order, a LOT (also replacing the at-the-time unclaimed tracks with the originals) to ensure the cohesiveness of the album. It was our goal to be mindful of how tracks blended together stylistically as well as thematically regarding their appearance in-game; to us we felt it was very important for the listeners especially. In this album's case I'm not sure why Barrel Volcano is track #3, or why it goes Smithy fight --> SMRPG intro --> Midas River, but I'm sure the directors had their reasons.

  9. I'm a little late, but thanks for the kind words. I know the arrangement as-is is a bit mechanical in terms of the way it's composed; I'll look into smoothing things out. Do you have any recommendations for VSTs? It kind of feels like I'm playing the lottery in terms of downloading ones that seem to work with Mixcraft.

I've added considerably more but probably won't post the final track until I'm 100% happy with it.

  10. Hi guys, I recently started working on an original piece and figured I'd post the WIP here. I do plan on adding more of a transition to the two 'moods' but I think I found a general direction for the track. Unfortunately I don't have access to any real workstation so Mixcraft soundfonts'll have to suffice. Drums are also placeholder.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

  11. Beautiful cover art and album title!

I just thought about this project out of the blue and logged on solely see how it was going; it's awesome to see the first post was updated today of all days. I read in the first post that you will still take all the art you can get -- are you looking for anything in particular? Super Mario RPG is among my favorite titles on the SNES and I'd love to contribute to the album, if I can!

(In the meantime I'll also see if I can come up with a WIP for Dodo's Theme or something)

  12. Sole Signal, I can't believe you did TWO remixes of the Cave Dungeon theme!!! I love you! YOUR TRACKS ARE HEAVENLY! I've been looking forward to this album for years, especially your take on the track(s!), and not only have they met my expectations but you've completely shattered them!

I mean, I was looking forward to one great Cave Dungeon remix, but TWO? I don't think I've ever liked a remix as much as I like these two!

That said, this album's really good, I'm loving it. I've found Boo's Cues, Devastation Duel, Sunken Secrets and Do Piranha Plants Dream of Electric Italians to be album highlights though there ain't a bad track in the bunch. :)

  13. This is out?

    INCONCEIVABLE!!

also fun story: i was totally gonna enter the art contest and do a picture for cool cool mountain and it was just going to be mario throwing a baby penguin off the edge of the stage lol

Heh, yeah, I was going to enter the art contest as well. Even spent a few hours on a painting which depicted Mario, up close, hiding behind the chimney of the hut, ready to throw a snowball across to the two snowmen in the original painting next to their tree and all. I didn't end up finishing it but I got substantial progress done.

Also started work on a Lethal Lava Land painting in which Mario rode the turtle shell through the primary volcanic eruption, looked incredible in my head but its execution proved to be incredibly difficult.

I *really* wanted to do a painting of Wet-Dry World but I couldn't think of any killer ideas. The level itself is my absolute favorite and I can't think of any real defining aspects.

Unfortunately I just couldn't finish any of them on time, which saddens me as I *really* wanted to be part of an album depicting one of my favorite games of all time <3

Downloaded the MP3s and art, going to take a look, so stoked! Will post my thoughts in due time!

  14. I'm definitely interested in participating; Super Mario 64 is nearly my favorite game of all-time and I've been replaying it on my phone as of late (it's funny how people can say the game is nigh unplayable without an analog stick yet here I am, 117 stars later, rockin' this game with a QWERTY keyboard and enjoying every second of it).

I won't say what levels I intend to take a shot at it but I will say I have a potentially brilliant idea for the cover art that I can't wait to test out.

By "minimum resolution of 1200 pixels," do you mean it has to be a bare minimum of 1200x1200, or simply 1200 altogether? I could do it either way -- I'm just a bit confused on that part.

  15. I actually just finished my living Dex the other day, all 718 currently-obtainable Pokemon in the PC in order, all of them 100% legit. It was kind of depressing transferring my little friends from Diamond, Platinum, HeartGold, Black and Black 2....the files in all cases but B2 were release-day files that I planned on keeping indefinitely. Looking back, I think it was worth it, though. Gives me a reason to play through them all again!

  16. Eh, the mod just isn't working for me. It'll run for a few seconds and then freeze on the character select screen. I suspect it's because my Wii is a 4.0U (2009 status) and maybe Project M conflicts with that? Hmm. No idea. I'm horrible with this modding stuff.

I think I'll just stick to custom Brawl music/stages/character skins etc. on the main game. Luckily this is a simple cut-and-paste job that just involves putting files into folders on the SD card.

Still though, Project M seems phenomenal and I'll definitely try to take a look into my Wii's situation.

  17. You kids and your "5 IVs"... that's so cute.

Meanwhile, my 3rd Gen Aerodactly with 6 IVs of 31, and the right nature, and bred moves, says hi.

And my other six 31/31/31/31/31/31 pokes as well.

Sadly, none of them are really meant for competitive battling because they're favorites, but still.

    My favorite 6IV story:

    Eevee: 31/x/x/x/31/31

    Ditto: x/31/31/31/x/x

I figured I would slap a Destiny Knot on one of them and put them in the Day Care to test my luck. It took like... 6 minutes to generate one egg, and I biked around for 10 more minutes to not a single other one, so I basically gave up and figured I may as well hatch the egg since it was already in my party.

The IV dude told me each stat was perfect and I nearly jumped. It was surreal. It seems so unlikely that the game would just happen to pick the right 31s with so much room for error. It could have just as likely been the x/x/x/x/x/0 or something.

Unfortunately math is not my specialty but I tried to calculate the odds anyways, but then I realized that out of all the possible outcomes 31/31/31/31/31/31 could've occurred quite a lot. I still (most likely incorrectly) calculated the final odds as something like 0.0001015% which is substantially higher than getting a shiny with the old odds.

Edit: Oh yeah, I've been breeding a lot of Pokes for fun. I'm particularly fond of Sawsbuck (whom I never considered using 'til it came to me in a dream) and Magcargo, who is definitely bottom-tier as far as viable Pokes go but is still really fun to use on wi-fi.
