  1. Oh, I guess I wasn't paying much attention to the conversation because I didn't realize a MvM was happening. I haven't even actually played that game type yet! It'd be cool to try it out with you guys.
  2. Well geeze, I didn't expect EVERYone to bail on Harvest. I wanted to go full demo knight! Booo.
  3. I'd sure love to play with you guys... but where the heck is everyone? It seems like every night I log on, nobody is there. Is there a second server like there was before?
  4. Whee, I finally have a good connection again. Now I just need a computer that doesn't overheat. TF2 crashing doesn't mean a whole lot if my computer won't even stay on while playing. Stupid laptop...
  5. I'd probably play it. I'd love to see some kind of well-made multiplayer online game with perhaps an MMORPG feel to it almost, but isn't MapleStory or any of its friggin' poor-excuse-for-a-2D-platformer clones.
  6. I think people should stop being so picky. I don't care where we play.
  7. Well, I should probably say that I could probably play it and be alright, as long as nothing weird happens in the actual game, and I assume nothing does.
  8. Perhaps it's the hint of sexualization? I dunno. Though I guess it's not like more commercialized things with anthropomorphic characters have never had shapely female types around. It doesn't help when you KNOW the guy behind it is a furry, though. A sense of sexualization kinda just come right along with knowing that, thanks to that subculture's reputation. It's like, TMNT was just an idea somebody had that they thought would be interesting for whatever reason. This game on the other hand might actually be directly related to somebody's wet fantasies. Even if both end products are equally non-sexual... it's the thought that counts.
  9. Maybe in the second season. In the first season it's just murder. I enjoyed it, though I've been pretty much made immune to intense violence ever since Elfin Lied. Oh yeah, Elfin Lied. That's, uh, certainly an adult show. Do yourself a favor and ignore these blanket assertions. Judge for yourself.
  10. A couple of Epica songs I always thought would be great for some pivotal battles in a strategy RPG. Such as this one: This one I picture being set to an assault on the capital of some desert country. Here's a track from the Haibane Renmei OST that I always imagined being set to some weird asian-style city: I actually don't even remember how it was used in the show.
  11. Yeah, he walks all over my face most of the time. Adon is terrifying. Though it doesn't help that I keep screwing up my baits because his stuff comes out so fast. Also El Fuerte is some low tier goodness. I can't stop playing as him. EX Guacamole mixups for the win.
  12. Darlos9D reporting in. I'm Darlos9D pretty much everywhere, heh.
  13. Reminds me of a mix of Futurama and Shlock Mercenary
  14. I'm kinda sad the Zelda II side scrolling Link wasn't used.
  15. Some recent rough conceptual character sketches and some animals. These things are zomg hueg so just links. Also, beware, a bit weeabooin' artwork. 16. Hah! I beat Kotaku to the punch on this one.
  17. I don't know if this has been posted already or not. Incredible.
  18. Heh, that's an unexpected yet valid example. Jenna even gets her own (pretty awesome) battle theme in the second game, which somehow manages to sound "feminine" even though it also sounds serious. That's a talented composer. Also, it's funny but I realized that despite something like Final Fantasy being incredibly overdesigned in recent incarnations, the women themselves typically don't seem too terribly exploited or dumb. Like, I can appreciate Yuna for being modestly dressed and capable of taking care of herself, even if she's a tad awkward. And this is even taking X-2 into consideration. (For the most part I just "blame" Rikku for dragging Yuna into a weird new lifestyle. At least that isn't actually her in the intro video!) And then with FF13 we have the downright masculine Lightning. I'm always going to favor a capable, likeable, intelligent, respectable female character over pretty much anything else in a given narrative, since I suppose that caters to the ideal that I wish I could meet in real life. Though at the same time, I feel there's a place for the occasional beautiful and flashy woman, as long as the narrative itself actually acknowledges what she is. There's a big difference between a woman who's quite aware and confident of her looks and isn't afraid to show it, and a woman who is overly attractive and wears revealing clothing but otherwise has no signs of a personality that would do that sort of thing. The latter type is typical of your average Japanese short-skirted schoolgirl type characters. Certainly some girl who's just kinda nice and normal would have some damn modesty and wear a longer skirt... or something else entirely. But that seems to get unrealistically ignored purely for the sake of fanservice, which is just annoying because it blows my logic circuits. I guess that's just the whole "moe" trend these days though, which causes this sort of logic-defying "innocent fanservice" where nice cute girls dress immodestly, completely against their modest personalities. But, back in the day, stuff like Dirty Pair or stuff like that were the standard fanservice, were you had busty chicks wearing not a whole lot, but also seeming to have personalities where they legitimately don't care that they're being revealing, which, while still mindlessly fanservicy, is at least a tad more logical.
  19. For me it goes far beyond characters being "generically pretty" these days. It seems like a lot of 3D fantasy stuff coming out of Japan has this ridiculously over-designed quality to it, regarding everything from clothing to equipment to airships to FRIGGIN TREES. Those "funky hairstyles and crazy clothes" have gotten completely out of hand in my opinion. When everyone to the most powerful noble down to the poorest commoner has weird outfits with intricate designs and scrollwork, how am I supposed to know something is supposed to be impressive relative to everything else? It all just turns into a blur of crazy fanciness, which ironically makes everyone go back to looking the same, defeating the original point. To make this point more on-topic, I guess it shows the limitations of the whole "same face different hair/clothes" paradigm a lot of animation tends to (cheaply) follow. We still need new faces and body types to make characters uniquely recognizable without whatever they're wearing, or however the strings of dead cells growing out of their heads are styled. But I guess that's either A: undesirably hard or B: focus groups say we "want" generically pretty people.
  20. "Take him out." I fukin' lol'd.
  21. Wait a second, why was this thread so high up on the list earlier today before I responded to it if the last reply was in December? I feel like I just accidentally necro'd.
  22. I don't know how, but let's do this shit. Too bad Nintendo would probably get mad at the creation of an actual video game... or maybe not. There's tons of Mario hacks and remakes out there, and a Metroid 2 remake project (or two). I'm both a programmer and an artist and would love to scratch both an RPG and a "weird setting" itch. Plus, being pokemon, the combat and "party management" would be simple. It could be made more complex of course, but it wouldn't take a whole lot. But that's if anyone decides to go whole-hog with some video game thing. I'm still an artist and an aspiring writer of sorts though, so I can probably contribute no matter what is decided, if it's writing or pictures or what have you. Archaeon, that plot-moving blurb you just wrote immediately got me thinking of what implications such a "master ball" might have, both positive and negative. As well as the sanity of the person working on it (I imagine it's a twisted Dr. Oak). I mean, how self-sustaining is it really? Would the rest of the world agree with being sucked into it? Isn't there other more general ways such an amazing technology could be reverse-engineered to help civilization rather than creating what basically sounds like human instrumentality in a can? All these things could be addressed and explored through the course of the plot as you meet various characters and get a feel for their problems and thoughts, regarding both this "master" plan (lololol) and other things. It could be amazing. I think you might be on to something here.
  23. Well, just because SNK did that doesn't mean ArkSys didn't do something similar. I was under the impression that you pretty much have to involve 3D models in the creation of such large high resolution sprite sets if you want to make it manageable. I'll admit I could be wrong, but I'd like some proof before we decide that's the case.
  24. I suppose I didn't consider vesatility within particular classes enough, making me not give Lightning enough consideration. So far I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to elemental attributes though, so that's probably why. Though I have experimented a lot with elemental strikes versus regular commando attacks and it feels like the strikes fall short damage wise, when used on an elementally neutral target. Are the strikes purely strength based, or are they like half magic half strength or something?
