  1. I completely admit to the dorkiness of this. Main system is 'Lothos' and when the damn powersupply gets here, the render/file server will be 'Ziggy'.
  2. Part of me digs this, part of me is slightly disappointed. I love the original tune dearly and remember tweaking/mixing wavetables way-back-when for no other reason than to make this track sound as great as possible. With that in mind, this is a fitting mix that serves as a nice mostly-technical update. But that's also what's wrong with it. I would have been overjoyed to hear more depth, variation and freshness (or a nice thick conspicuously overproduced film soundtrack-esque take on the original tune... hint-hint). The original track deserves a little more.
  3. One day, I want a do-over of this one with less goofy, less synthy (read: real) horns/woodwinds/whatever. The strings are pretty decently convincing, still synth, but it works because that's the style. The horns, though... they'll never work and desperately need some attention to production. That microbitching aside, the thing as a whole is just one hell of a fun ride. Whether or not it really was, it feels like there was a decent amount of preplanning and forethought put into it, instead of just slappin a bunch of presets and plopping out... something... that kinda sounds like a song. I love good drama without pretentiousness and this mix delivers that pretty well. On the dramatic bits, it stays modest without losing punch where it could have turned into this arrangementally masturbatory, over-syrupy "i w4nt t0 b3 +h3 n3x+ johrn w1llyumz`!!!1accentaccent!1tildehowyadoin" pretentious sap-fest. Good going. Now... find some musicians who work for free who can play instruments that need to be blown. Wait.
  4. Hey, it's a Russian Yankee Karaoke Pub Mix! I like it. Happy, simple, bouncy craziness - so no reason to get technical on it (wouldn't have anything bad to say if I did)? =]
  5. Great gawdamighty. The Vortex soundtrack is some seriously sweet tuneage, chip tuneish or not. I've been listening to it lately and I sometimes have remind myself that I'm listening to the original SPC and not a remix. I have my favorite few tunes from the game and while Cryston isn't at the top, it's definitely one of them. Crystony goodness. Except this one is a little more thematic with less bounce than the original - not wonderful, but not a crime. All in all, enjoyable. Definitely more of a smooth relaxing update and beat, but one you can still move a little to. [Tries out the new, improved Iguana vs. Panda dance-o-metric scaling system]: Not a dancing iguana song, but possibly a dancing panda song. Now, time for someone to make a great mix of Voltair.
  6. lol, same here. =] "No, I'm a f**ckin' squirrel!"
  7. Hmm... diggin up an old review here, but oh well. Why not? =] I'm in the same court as John here - Flame Man will forever be my favorite MM theme. This is the song that made me go back and play all the MegaMan games from the beginning. The intro-waves just had such a cool dynamic on the little NES. I remember re-starting the stage over and over just to hear that pseudo-chorusing. And c'mon - the rest of the tune is just too groovy to deny. I'm glad EH took the good time to remix it. Overall, this remix does justice to the original, and stands alone as pretty good if enjoyed as lo-fi. Even with the sample quality, the sprinkle of ethicity does the mix well. My only problem with the track is that it doesn't have much of that crossing (maybe even kinda dissonant) harmonization [hope that's the correct term, my music-speak is rusty as hell] that made the original so cool. Bottom lines: Great mix for an awesome original. And I'm glad I'm not the only person that loves this song and MM6 in general. I'm used to being lambasted for loving the game and its tracks so much. =P
