I have a large window at one end of the room where my studio is. There are some blinds there from when we bought the house but I have that covered with a very thick comforter. I also have a couch that's near that window. While it's not a perfect situation, those things do help out quite a bit. Layers of dense material will help diffuse the reflections from the windowed area. It's a fairly easy and cheap solution and doesn't require modifying the area much.
-
I doubt that it'd be effect to the point where it'd be worth it. Sure, you might get a little bit of diffusion out of it but it probably wouldn't be very noticeable.

I'm attempting to get a bit more of my bass work out there and I'm looking to be a part of your remixes. Whether it's electric or acoustic, I can pretty much work in any genre. Here's a some songs that I've played and I'm hoping to add to that list in the near future. https://soundcloud.com/theshaggyfreak/sets/bass-demos

I stand by what I've been saying this past hour... Like any console, it has potential but this presentation was all about the quality of graphics and the 'online experience'. These are not things that excite me anymore.

Euphonic Strings for Reason
theshaggyfreak replied to theshaggyfreak's topic in Music Composition & Production
I wouldn't necessarily say it's better than Miroslav but it is a nice addition to it. The Miroslav stuff tends to be recorded dry. There is some ambient reverb in these samples which can be a little more natural. -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
theshaggyfreak replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
This little console has a lot of potential but it's going to be a while before we know whether or not it'll be realized. You can always come over and play mine. I think they're only about half way through shipping the Kickstarter versions of the console. I guess I got lucky. -

So, here's my initial impression of the OUYA after getting it in the mail today. http://www.bsodcomic.net/2013/05/13/ouya-a-first-impression/ -
Oh, I have plenty of bad movies in my collection. Dungeons and Dragons Flash Gordon The Hearse Superman 3 Legend TIme Bandits 13 Ghosts Scooby Doo Most consider all of these bad movies but I love them!

http://zampled.com/euphonic-strings-refill-for-reason/ For the longest time Reason users were pretty much stuck with using Orkestor or the Miroslav library for orchestral sounds. While I do prefer to do this sort of work with Vienna Symphonic in Reeaper, I always wanted to have more to work with in Reason. It's been years since someone attempted to put out anything that sounded decent but that has changed. Zampled just released a library of stings for Reason and it's quite impressive considering the cost is only $49. You end up getting about 6GB of samples to use and there are a variety of articulations. While it certainly isn't a complete set, there are a number of round robins so that you can escape a lot of the machine gun effect. So, for those of us who love Reason, it's definitely worth checking out! BTW, ignore the demo songs on their website. I personally feel they represent the library rather poorly.

Much of the upgrade from 6.5 to 7.0 are work flow enhancements but they are some really crucial ones. The ability to set up parallel processing and faders groups is now quite quick to do and a wonderful addition to the program. Warp markers are quite nice too and lets you quantize audio in a way similar to Ableton Live. All in all, the upgrade is definitely worth it.

help recording vocals, mic recommendations
theshaggyfreak replied to daJungKI's topic in Music Composition & Production
I have a vocal room built into a close in my studio. I've got some padding in there and such but the room also has an irregular shape since it's underneath a set of stairs. It's worked out rather well for me so far. As far as mics go, there are a number of good condenser mics that won't break the bank. The two below are the ones that I use the most... Kel-HM1 - This is a medium sized condenser that works great on mail vocals. Unfortunately Kel no longer makes it. I bought it some years ago when it was the first microphone they ever produced. They do make this microphone, though, which I've heard good things about. Studio Projects B1 - This was the first condenser mic that I ever purchased. It's a good all around large condenser mic and It's served me well for about ten years. If I were to get another microphone at this point, I'd probably get something from Blue like the Blue Bird or the Baby Bottle. Rode makes some great mics too and the NT1-A is pretty nice. -
Any advice for buying studio monitors?
theshaggyfreak replied to jordanrooben's topic in Music Composition & Production
They look like the NS-10s but it's definitely a different speaker monitor. It took me a little while to get used to my HS80s but that's typical getting any new monitors. I definitely notice my mixes are better since I made the switch. -
Any advice for buying studio monitors?
theshaggyfreak replied to jordanrooben's topic in Music Composition & Production
The KRK monitors aren't bad but they tend to have quality control issues. I used to have a pair of Rokit 6's until one of them died after about 3 years. I found it impossible to find another one that sounded like the one I had left. It's kind of hard to explain but I often found a bit of distortion in the upper frequencies in many of the new ones I tried. I also got one that had a bad coil in the wolfer. I think I went through about three or four new speakers before I gave up. I now have a pair of Yamaha HS80m monitors and they sound great. They definitely have a lot more going on in the low end but that's mostly due to the fact that these are 8in speakers compared tot he 6in on the ones I had before. I'm starting to really believe that you need a sub if you're going to have a pair of monitors with wolfers smaller than 8in. Otherwise you're going to have a hard time catching things that are down in the 80hz and below area. From my research, the best budget monitors that you can find at your local music store will most likely be Yamaha or Mackie. There are other great brands out there but you'd have to order them online since most stores don't carry them. Monitors are the kind of thing I like to buy locally since I can easily return them if they're problems. -

Shaggy is Selling Stuff!
theshaggyfreak replied to theshaggyfreak's topic in Music Composition & Production
Naw, the Steinberger is all stock. My biggest issue with it is that the neck isn't comfortable to me due to my hands being a bit on the small side. There's another bass I have my eye on and I need to make some room for it. So, this one has to go. -
Okay, I'm making my way through some things and I have more stuff that I can probably get rid of. So, I'm creating this thread instead of creating multiple ones. Here's what's on the block at the moment: Software AAS Ultra Analog VST - $40 Instruments Steinberger XZ-25 5 string bass - $400 - Since shipping this thing would be a pain, I'd rather sell it to someone who is mostly local. Other Behringer Headphone Mixer - $50 - I have zero complains about this piece but I just no longer need it. I'll keep this updated as I find other stuff I need to part with.

EZdrummer for Sale

EZdrummer sold! -
So, I'm selling my copy of EZdrummer since I no longer use it. I'll be selling it for about 50% of what it normally costs. So, it's yours for $50. Once I get the payment (paypal), I'll have Toontrack transfer the license to you.

While I won't be able to afford one of these lovely things, I think it's a really nifty idea. An acoustic guitar synth! No, it's not another MIDI interface! Check it out! http://kck.st/147fs22 -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
theshaggyfreak replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
A brand new console is never going to ship with a huge NEW library ready for it. That's going to take time just like it has with any other major console that's been released. Until we start seeing more of these consoles in the public eye, a ton of games are not going to start flooding the market. Right now the Ouya has potential just like any other new console. You can't compare the size of its library with anything else out there yet. If you start doing that, you might as well just buy one console and play that one forever or just stick with PC gaming. -

Yes, it is indeed an April Fools joke. You do get a download that loads into Kontakt but it's pretty useless. -
