  1. More on the guitars, this youtube vid covers the WAH Guitar patch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ0wmVrrX_k
  2. But I'm gonna try to breath at least a little bit of life into it here for the time being. Please post and keep this forum alive! x____x Reason Guitars! (Trust me this is gonna blow your mind or something...) So, Reason doesn't come with really great distortion for doing guitars. Actually, I really like the Scream unit when combined with other effects, or for creating custom patches for synths or bass or drums it sounds great. I've been using Record to get a sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6GpeUhr_cw&t=0m14s My new goal was to just use MIDI guitars and get as good a sound out of Reason as possible, without relying on Record or POD Distortion. I've created two combinators as an example of the best I could get using only Reason, no Record POD Distortion necessary. It uses compression to naturally distort the guitars, and makes use of the frequency filter to control whether or not the guitar is muted or sustained. Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNlQB_cbb-Y - Unpolished, played through keyboard and exported in about 5 minutes time. Unlike pro demos from sample libraries, this was not painstakingly done at all, and I still feel it sounds pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4xPGYfiMXg - The polished painstaking version, and yet it's not that hard to do at all. This is just editing it so that the muted notes velocities are lower. Guitars: http://www.sendspace.com/file/jp77li http://www.sendspace.com/file/3vkngu You use the MOD Wheel to control whether or not the guitar is muted or sustained. When mixing guitars, make sure to pan one part left and one part right at the very least to get a good full rhythm guitar sound. Here is a sample song file to demonstrate what the guitars can do, and an mp3 file as well: http://www.sendspace.com/file/eal2ua - MP3 File Link http://www.sendspace.com/file/aaf6cy - The Reason 4 Song File Link Tips when using the guitars: The polyphony on the guitar combi's are set to 2. It's meant to be played in the fashion of holding your sustain pedal down, while controlling whether the guitar is muted or sustained with your mod wheel. First, try moving your mod wheel to the center. Then, push two keys (play a P5 or P4, and make sure you don't play too low or too high, play around C2) of your keyboard down, holding your sustain pedal. Still holding your sustain pedal down, move to two other keys on the keyboard (another P4 or P5 around the same range).
  3. Hello there, I've finished the first movie of my anime series idea Astralojia. I'm now working on Movie 2 and plan to finish it by August 1st. I've got a good 12-18 minutes of cues to fill, and I'm looking for volunteers to help out. The genre is "RPG-like", usually either Orchestral Classic J-RPG-like music, Orchestral Rock or Rock. Here are references/work I've finished already for the project. First, the first movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7bI8jXbrU0 A warning, this clip is an hour and 45 minutes long... This is the link to the playlist for the first CD: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=PL4CDB0CF475537D54 To audition, please send samples of your work via PM, to markhansavon [@] aol.com, aim me at markhansavon, or post links of your work here. Thanks for your time.
  4. I've been working with mixing distortion guitar tracks for more than 5 years. I've created tons of rock music and tested and experimented with every combination I can think of of mixing rock tracks. One of the best tracks I've ever created sound wise with guitar was a track in where I had one heavy guitar panned center. It was a slower power-track heavy metalish type of thing. You can just put one guitar track in, you don't necessarily need 3. You can use Stereo Imaging also. What makes a track most like the one you sent will always be song writing. Look up the Prince of Tennis soundtrack and you'll find songs that use no guitar but have the same feeling/emotion you're looking for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQTAstsWXx0 I think that trying out anything mixing wise would work well. Test out and create your own way of doing things and never say the phrase "have to" in art....ever...
  5. Hello there, Going through my playlist I've pretty much realized that I've fallen into an old rut...There isn't enough bright music on my playlist! x_x What I mean by bright music, is music that makes you wake up in the morning and take in the fresh summer air on a blue skied day. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a great example. It's energetic, enthusiastic and adventurous. Other stuff would be like Nintendo music, which tends to almost be comedic in nature if you're talking about Mario, but more adventurous and heroic if you're talking about Zelda. A lot of soundtracks, actually most soundtracks, have particular tracks that are more positive than negative even if the entire soundtrack is based on a dark project, so particular tracks work also. I'm looking for BGM music, mainly j-game and anime soundtracks, especially new stuff released, but I thought it'd just be good anyway to make a topic on this. Any music will do, just bring on the bright stuff.
  6. Awesome stuff. I love the sound you're getting. It's inspiring to say the least.
  7. Focus more on songwriting. x__x There's a mention about using 20 solo violin tracks...It's not worth it.
  8. Hello there, I was wondering if there are any guitarists out there that would like to collaborate on something... ...I guess I should write more. I'm a composer insterested in co-writing some metal tracks. You can find my work on my youtube account (youtube.com/markhansavon).
  9. Well in the compression you kick down the thresh-hold and really squash the Bass making it rounder, the opposite of crisper. It sounds like the line is a bit high for that kind of stuff though.
  10. Well...I'm not a mod but I've gotta try and review it anyway, The only thing I might say is that the piano comes on too strong...along with the percussion halfway through I guess...It depends what you're going for... ...Yeah sorry I'm horrible at reviewing stuff. x_x What I like about it is that it's extremely original. Mixing wise you could probably give the bass compression and make it more round I guess. Then again the low string line is kind of the bass, not the bass guitar. Man this is a tricky track to say the least...
  11. Dear OCRemix Community, I am releasing this as an indie film, so I am taking all content offline for the time being. Thanks, Mark
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. By the way, I wanted to say, if anyone uses Record I can hand the file off to you if you'd like to mess around with it. I do wish I had more time to do game remixes, but I'm constantly working on originals.
  13. Hey there, I quickly created a performance of Cids Theme to test out a midi rock band I've been working on for a while in Propellerhead's Record. I don't have the best samples, so be easy on me, I just made this so I could listen to it myself, and I thought a person or two might appreciate it, even though it's very short. I'm not really looking to submit this to the whole ocremix library thing on the main page, but if I made it longer and fixed the mistakes in my keyboard playing, I might try in the future. I usually use a dance-beat bass drum and an 80s-ish loose snare like in my FF13 Remix, but for this one I took the samples I had laying around and mimiced Hammerfall's sound on their cd that had the song 'The Way of the Warrior' (don't know if that name is completely right). Unlike my other performances, where I use multiple rhythm guitar tracks and pan them, I used just one, to cut back on space used (I'm using an old laptop, so I need to use as little CPU as possible). I panned the bass and the guitar slightly right and left, and made a lot of the tracks thinner than wider (stereo imaging). Most importantly, there's a lot more performance than there is programming. Thanks ahead of time for the listen. If you do have suggestions, I will listen, it's just there are certain things I can't do, like get better samples at the moment, because it requires lots of green stuff. x_x Also, a lot of people have told me they don't like my lead guitars, but I actually like them...I don't know... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K_CFVZouno
  14. This is a Final Fantasy Fan Game Song I call "Suite of Essence". It's an RPG Maker game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3g1xDsMbMI
  15. This is a remix of Akai Tsuki from Disgaea. Some of you may know of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5DBD7lWtag

  17. Well, I know that I probably won't find a soul out there that would help without being paid x_x, but I'm working on a mock-up fan-made theme song for The Last Story, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in "finishing off" what I have down so far? Here's what I've got so far on the outline: http://www.astralojia.com/music/TLS-MT.mid All of the leads/melodies are done, it just (just isn't a word for it x_x) needs the accompaniment instruments. I would hand you the midi file with tags that have the chords written on them. The song would be completed like... Outline MIDI File - Still needs quantizing and fixing up, which I'll handle in a day or two. MIDI Arrangement/Orchestration - Next up, this part takes a lot of time and knowledge about what will work and what won't. This is the part I want some help with. I will do a big chunk of the song, if someone else or even others would help out with doing other bars and parts. I will put Markers on the midi file (labeling chords), so using Sonar, Cubase or Logic would be a plus, but I'm sure Finale and Sibelius also support Markers. Setting up the MIDI File for being run through a Sample Library - I will do this part. It just involves going in and separating each string track into long and short articulations like "Vlns Leg", "Vlns Stac", "Vlns Spic", "Horns Stac", "Horns Leg FF", etc.... This also includes making it so that the softer legato parts are pulled back a tad bit, as well as the marcatto/staccato/spiccato so that it doesn't start late. I'm not sure if East Wests Play Sampler and Kontakt use the CC11 Automation for expression/volume...It would probably be smarter to use CC7 (Volume) (I think it's 7, right?). I know that my sampler (Reason's NN-XT) doesn't support CC11, so in my case I have to change it to CC7. Run it through a Sample Library - Find someone with a good sample library and have them run it through. I know that probably no one will be up for it, but I thought I'd just throw it out there anyway. I will give you all of the credit, and I'm sure it will get many hits on youtube/exposure if you're into that kind of thing. x_x P.S - There are a total of 88 bars, and I could probably finish about 20-40 of them if someone could finish another chunk. Even if someone could help out with just 10 bars or so, I'd still be very interested in collaborating with you.
  18. Well that's true enough, but it still has to remain just string quartet. Don't count me out just yet, though, I've got some tricks up my sleeve coming up with quartets. x_x Also, while live usually sounds better, I feel that I can go further and get an expressiveness that can sound interesting to "normal people".
  19. I just figured out how to do a sliding portamento in Reason 4. x____x' It took a lot of work, and it's definitely a trick, but I've finally got a good portamento like Kontakt has. Regardless of what I've said before, with this new discovery, I may just update the song with portamento on the legato parts. Also, if anyone knows where I can find some unlooped quartet samples, that'd be awesome. x_x The next step will be to make it so that it changes as it holds notes, since it just holds and has this low-quality/short looped vibrato, so the ear just loses interest pretty quickly.
  20. This is the same performance quartet that I programmed for playing on my keyboard. This song is unfinished, and I don't plan on finishing it, as I'm just playing around with samples. I thought I'd post it anyway, since it sounds pretty....interesting...Not really realistic per say, but very synthetically interesting I guess. I could probably go farther by working more on the legato parts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ3DWHRds58
  21. Thanks guys. I have my doubts about the string libraries out there, also, but, I feel for synth it's expressive, and I wouldn't want to change it to have more instruments... I've got a huge soundtrack I've been working on for 5 years and I was thinking of eventually hiring a string quartet to help me record some of the more important themes...
  22. This is "This Is Your Home" from Final Fantasy 13 arranged for strings. It's a performance quartet, which means I programmed it so that I just played it right through my keyboard. I used Reason 4 with Miroslav. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6XFbJoKct0
  23. Here's a track for a fan game called Final Fantasy Essence. The game itself is going to be using MIDI files, so this is kind of an unofficial take on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClOUmGMD44M Thanks ahead of time for taking a listen.
