Hello there, I'm looking for a Violinist or Viola...ist to record samples for me. I am planning to take those samples and make free instruments in Reason 4. I have over 5 years experience creating custom NN-XT patches, and I've found a way to make a really good Violin instrument, I just need help recording the samples necessary to program it all in. I may also release it in SF2 format. The samples would be released free. I'm looking for someone that has at least a little bit of experience recording their instrument into their computer (micing technique and such). If you're interested please PM me or leave me a message at AIM: Markhansavon or E-mail: Markhansavon@aol.com with at least a sample or two of your work, and we can negotiate pay from there. Although it's not much, I'm looking to pay a final price of 50 USD. I only use Paypal to pay online.

Well, if anyone has Record, I could just give them the Record File. Other than that, I may post another song up here some day for kicks and giggles. x_x. -
Here's a short test I created using a couple MIDI Guitars. To some of you guys it probably won't sound so finished, but it's alright with me, I just created it as a kind of test, and I don't have the extra time to work on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_aRz04iMoY Everything is one shot/performed, so if things are off here and there it's because I just played it through my keyboard. Here's the MP3... http://www.astralojia.com/music/FF13%20-%20No%20Way%20to%20Live.mp3 Thanks for giving a listen, I hope you enjoy it. P.S - I'm not taking part in the loudness war, so you might have to turn it up to get the full effect.

It just needs an intro in my opinion. Maybe add some sound effects that suck you into the battle? (if that's what would happen) Have things build up before being into full swing.

Recommend me a PC for producing music

No matter what, try to get 4GB or more of ram. If you can't get 8GB right now, make sure your computer can upgrade in the future. It's all about the ram. -
Another post, but not a bump: Hitoshi Sakimoto Technique #1 italics = single notes bold = chords The C minor scale is: C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, C Now, play these chords (all major chords): C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, C Now, just keep pressing, as your pedal note, C. (Play C down low), and playfully play these chords: C, Eb, G, F, D, Ab, F, G, Ab, C (just random chords I'm putting down, but play them with a playful rhythm) The result is a Hitsohi Sakimoto kind of technique. (FF12, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) The point is, that the more you play pedal tones the more you get a grasp on them.

Exactly, you're spot on. Db/C means a Db chord with the bass playing C. The "root tone" is still Db, but it's like another chord all on it's own because of the bass. It's EXTREMELY dramatic emotionally. It's how the (disney's) Notre Dame soundtrack, and Liberi Fatali sound so amazingly epic and emotional. There are certain times when I wouldn't let pedal tones confuse you, though. For example if you have: A) C > G/B > F/A > C/G It's easier to just look at it like it's... C > G > F > C That's how I learned to play Edeilweiss. (....umm...those aren't the chords to edeilweiss...and sorry for spelling it wrong x_x) About A and B above: It'll pretty much sound the same. It's a simplification so that you can create a song using those chords without having to over-complicate it for yourself. In the case of some composer having fun pounding on one note on the bass while on top playing all kinds of different chords (Hitoshi Sakimoto)...to recreate that kind of style, you'd just have to get really good at piano/keyboard and just playfully push down all kinds of random Major Chords to denote an insane amount of expression. (listen to FF Tactics Advance or FF12 soundtracks) In the case of someone like Taku Iwasaki it's easier to simplify his music, removing the pedal tones. (don't worry, it's always tough studying pedal tones....not for some random people with really good ears though x_x (and perfect pitch!! damn you all!))

http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=812 Eb > Eb > Eb > Eb > E/Eb > E/Eb > Eb Like star fox. Messed up in the clip towards the end though. x_x EDIT: Eb Major Scale > Eb Major Scale > Eb Major Scale > Eb Major Scale > E Lydian Scale > E Lydian Scale > Eb Major Scale EDIT2: Some playing: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=813 - Eb > E/Eb chord progression jamming http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=814 - Climbing video game/old-anime-fantasy-soundtrack (like Magic Knight Rayearth or El Harzard) chord progression / Chords are: Eb > E/Eb > F/Eb > Gb/Eb - Used in Sonic 3 and Knuckles Final Boss - Used in Super Smash Bros. a lot... - Used in Magic Knight Rayearth a lot (don't know the composers name but he uses it everywhere) - Used in Final Fantasy 12 a whole lot, Hitsohi Sakimoto is literally just jamming on his keyboard to create that soundtrack. - Rarely, if ever, used in American music. I wish these kinds of chord progressions could be brought into American Modern Film. Movies would be so much more intense. x_x Personally I'm using them in my own original soundtrack for this one game, because it just makes things so dramatic.

Nice, I'll look forward to them. Right now I've been using a POD UX1 (comes with pod software) to do my distortion guitar, through a pretty cheap single coil spencer guitar, and I'm getting a lot of feedback/interference. x_x I usually have to double layer tracks to get a good sound out of it... I'm wondering if you do the same? Also, would you recommend humbuckers over single coil...or...it doesn't matter? Just wondering, you don't have to answer those questions if you don't want to. x_x I just really like the tone you've got, and your playing technique, with the traveling...mutes...I know that sounds really noobish but that's what I like most about it. -
You mean notation? I've used Sonar for the longest time now...I've always found that it's notation was better than Cubase's...I don't know about now, though, since I used Sonar 2. You could try "Digital Audio Workstation" software: like Logic, Sonar, Pro Tools, or Cubase for that kind of thing. Again, I've always thought of Sonar to be the best for notation. You could also try "Notation Software": like Finale or Sibelius. Finale Notepad is free.

I liked that. It was very...magical...and dreamy. I could definitely fall into a "trance" listening to it. -

Ah, cool. I really enjoyed this. You're very good at getting a clean lead guitar sound out. If you don't mind me asking, what do you run your guitars through? I don't know if this could be the style you're going for, but did you try and make the drums louder to see what it sounds like? -
Nice. Nice and mellow, yet it has a lot of...energy/insanity in there also. =)

Best Software to Learn and Grow With
markhansavon replied to HTwrestler112's topic in Music Composition & Production
Reason + Record has been the best for me personally hardware-wise. I own a slower computer and it works wonders. It's also a great thing that Record doesn't use any external VST effects, as it makes it more stable, it never crashes, it never dies or gets clogged up. I use Reason 4 with Sonar using MIDI Yoke. You just have to go to Advanced MIDI and select MIDI Yoke 1 as bus A. I can use Sonar's notation and sequencer in this way and not have to bother with the ever so slow and clunky method of using Reason with Rewire/VSTi.If I were in your position, and I know a lot of people wouldn't do the same, I would take up piano/keyboard as your main instrument, and get really really good at it over the next 4-8 years. Everyone plays an instrument. If someone says "I don't play an instrument", that means they either use their voice, or they use the notes coming out of their music software. -
finished Naruto - Strong and Strike Performance
markhansavon replied to markhansavon's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Thanks. I call that a distorted organ but, now looking over it, it's the jazz guitar patch. Here's the sample without and with distortion that you were talking about. The slide is something that comes with the Reason 4 patch: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=810 Since Roland used to use Distorted Organs for it's distorted guitars on it's phantom keyboards, I sometimes actually do use organs, especially for leads. x_x Now that I listen to the track alone...it does sound pretty dirty, the guitars...I guess it kind of works for this track, but that's probably the thing that makes it less clear. -

Oh ok, then, no problem. In that case the song probably sounds as good as you're gonna be able to get it. Again, great job. =) It's been 4-5 years since I've used FL Studio, things seem to have seriously changed. (It really wasn't able to make orchestral stuff 4 years ago) -

Well, regardless, going by that mixing recipe has worked for me before, and I still think it sounds great. I don't know, whatever works. -

Just added the edit to the post. What do you mean by where is the stuff I'm listening to? -
finished Naruto - Strong and Strike Performance
markhansavon replied to markhansavon's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Oh, well, it's a performance, that's why there are mistakes. x_x It's lost in the sands of audio, now. The guitars are just distorted organs in Record. I played each part, the drums, bass, the two guitars and the keyboardist track. (all on my keyboard) -

Holy crap, yeah that makes a huge difference. Awesome stuff. Listening more right now.... EDIT: Alright, on that part, I still think that there may be so much reverb on the lower strings that their attacks aren't being noticed. Here's a clip of one thing you could try. This is just making it so that there's a gap from note to note for the basses. (I know, I'm playing it an octave up and I flubbed the high strings) http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=809 It's a great song by the way... -

Nice. =) What you could probably do in your sampler if you can double tracks, is add the quicker bowing one on to the legato strings. Then make it so that when you hit your keyboard hard it's like Arco, but then when you strike a note soft it's like legato. Here's a sample: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?action=single&f=Arco+Strings.mp3 That's if you're using a sampler. If you're using the Play engine I don't know if it'd be supported, but that's ok too, it's just a time saving tip for performance.
