  1. Hmm, in general I can't get the vst at all to sound good. What ranges are most dynamic for a distorted guitar?
  2. I was really afraid to even touch the synths, esp absynth with the patch mutations and whatnot. I've not really branched out composition styles so it will be awhile till I use FM or absynth. I just wish I could EQ these vsts to make them sound better
  3. What was the last remix or song from OC you heard? The last remix I listend too was Trash's Snakebone Pit.
  4. Sorry about the last topic mods, forgot there was a suggestion forum. That said though, forget about remixing, simply what video game music is on your playlist?
  5. a Remix of the original R/Y/B champion battle theme... I think this is reason enough for a bump. This guy does other remixes his style seems to be orchestral with some DnB, it's pretty nice stuff...
  6. I was just wondering if anyone was going to VGL this year or has already seen their performance earlier in the year. I'm planning on going on June 8th this year in LA, if tickets aren't already sold out lol.
  7. Just curious, wanted to see what songs people listened too, or what songs they would like to hear remixed or remix themselves. though quite a mediocre attempt at an action rpg, I found these two tracks from Virtua Fighter stuck in my head so I downloaded them: As for remixing there are a least 14 songs I wanna either remix or hear get remixed, but I'd be getting ahead of myself to say that I'm tackling them any time soon, but it'd be cool if this song from this old pc game, havoc, I use to play got remixed.
  8. The default trumpet that comes with Kontakt 4 in Komplete 6. Either that or DSK brass, or some soundfonts
  9. Yeah I'm having trouble. I wanted a distinct intro, but the source doesn't have much to work with. I've been playing the cords of the first few notes but other than that, I really don't have any ideas except simply literally sticking to the song, which seemed too boring.
  10. Hey, thank you guys for the quick feedback, I sincerely appreciate that! Some of my instruments have key switches, would that be sufficient enough to humanize the timing and dynamics? I'm reading on mixing but I'm still having trouble assessing how much EQ lead instruments need, and what low end instruments need. Frequency spectrum analysis programs would help? I'm thinking at the very least I can prevent instruments from sharing the same ranges. I was thinking newer instruments would help me out with either my timing or mixing, lol. I at the very least wanted to get a trumpet and some other brass.
  11. Sorry for the lame RPG joke, but it's early and I'm too tired to think of another title. So anyways, I've been composing and playing around for about a year, maybe a year and a half and I have about 16-20 "compositions." On paper, it seems like these would be solid pieces, but for some reason my execution seems off or something. I'm working on remixes of video game music (wips are in the remix section) but they don't really sound good at all and I can't completely tell what's wrong. I know that I have trouble with timing, I'm working on that, but it seems like I might have other problems as well, I'm just having difficulty assessing where to work on. Below are my best recordings/compositions, could you give me tips or any common problems these might have: I'm know my other recordings have issues too, but if I look at problems that might have occurred in my "better" songs, I'm assuming it'd at least give me a starting point to assess areas of improvement for most of my songs.
  12. I posted this a while a go, I made some various changes to it over time. The lead is a distorted synth, it's a place holder for a guitar maybe. For all intents and purposes I think I'm now done with this song...
  13. changed the intro and made a bit more progress on the song
  14. Oh cool, I'm working on a remix of this too. Well actually it's a blend of this and a super metroid song. So far, this sounds awesome, keep up the good work and good luck!
  15. Anyone know anything about MOTU Symphonic Instrument?
  16. Yeah, I got that vibe too, but I didn't wanna be too hasty so I checked it out. So far, yeah I don't have much else to say either. I was just seeing if anyone else here knew of them
  17. is there a package better than gold? Also is silver very inferior to gold?
  18. I want to write orchestral music and occasionally maybe big band style music. Is there a package versatile enough to offer both. Or should I focus on getting two really good sets. I'm currently looking into EWQL and Kontakt sax and brass but honestly if there are any more economical alternatives I'd like to look into them
  19. I downloaded these soundfonts... a lot of them seem hit or miss. I need to find some good samples.
  20. Are any of you familiar with this site? It's a music community dedicated to critiquing original competitions, connecting musicians, and helping them keep up with public competitions and stuff. I found it very interesting, but apparently they've now just started their own video game composition competition. It's a monthly challenge, I think the first challenge is remixing the music to the first level of master blaster http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t29657/blaster-master-level-1/
  21. Aww, lol you used OC standards I'm such a noob though lol. If you want though, I did finish this. Yeah I know, the intro was pretty long and stuff... if I complete the rest of the song and it was close to the original would it still have too much original writing? I used the chords from the chord progression to write the intro. In the original recording it was much shorter though. Yeah idk what to do about this, the trumpet especially. A lot of these samples are from Komplete 6, yeah and idk if I can mix well enough to bring out the best of these sounds. But what do you mean by generic though? The strings in the intro were kind of an afterthought, and the intro itself does meander onwards. I'm thinking of reducing it to 30 seconds. As for the snare, the percussion transition didn't work well? The choir needs to articulate? Like it needs more air?
  22. I made some changes to the panning of the instruments and some sequencing
  23. made changes to the song again. I have the same concerns though, I'm still mostly concerned with the tone of the instruments and the transition to the main song
  24. Yeah I wanna write orchestral scores too. I just started writing music about a year ago, so we'll see where I go lol. Honestly right now though I don't have a definitive style I just write very dark music apparently: http://tindeck.com/listen/mwdc http://tindeck.com/listen/rnro What, all the cool kids were doing it >_> THIS.IS.WIN! I cried when it suddenly ended =/ Zack Hemsey comes to mind but you already said inception... that's funny. I listen to orchestral music daily... I can't remember anything right now though. If I remember something I'll let you know. There're probably a lot of members here that do that though to say the least. Edit: the bleach soundtrack, and many shonen soundtracks for that matter. They're not great examples but I could lead you to a track or two if you want
