What is the hardest part of the process for you?
mickomoo replied to Argle's topic in Music Composition & Production
I know those feels... all of those feels. And I dont know how to get better =/ -
I love these! lol I have to say you have a greater confidence and familiarity with woodwinds than I do.

Has anyone tried adding reverb to the already wet hall samples of gold lol? I was thinking of getting spaces since I have a student discount. It's my last year of school so I'm trying to nab as much stuff as I can at reduced price.

Is it seriously important having a library with dry samples so that you can mix it with other libraries? I have the EWQL gold and there's no more mic position add ons so unless I upgrade to platinum this is my library. But it seems that having dry samples adds some flexibility that I might currently be lacking? Is it that big of a deal, or have those of you with gold found it to be good enough on its own?

I like your stuff. For this track, idk if it's just me but the instruments (specifically the brass) seem all equally as loud and not super spread out. I'm an amateur to midi composition as well so I'm not quite sure what it is. But if you haven't panned or played around with the volume levels of each instrument that might be it. I definitely look forward to whatever else you produce though.

Same Ditto. Btw do you think song writting would help with like choral lyric writing. I so rarely engage with writing anything, but at some point in the future I wanted to use symphonic chiors...

awesome, it's up!

I actually have downloaditall! and it's an awesome tool. I was just wondering if there was a way without taking up hardrive space, but I'll probably want these as reference anyway...

Does anyone know how long we have access to our Coursera materials? I'm kinda behind in one of my classes and my Music class along with this philosophy class both start next week. I wanna learn but there's never enough time in the day

Is anyone here actually playing the game and hearing the context of the music?

The usage of the word as I used it implies two connotations. One of the denotative definitions of noise is sound (so yes they are in fact synonymous). But the other was to imply that despite how we order the tones we produce in music, technically none of this is sensible in the outside world. Music isn't this objective force found in nature, comprehension and recognition of it (as with all other sound) only arises through a mind. It doesn't really matter what we call it, the things that exist out-there-in-the-world only make sense once processed by the brain then consciously recognized by our "mind." So yeah for all intense and purposes all sounds at some basic level are just noise, in the sense that noise can be used as a synonym and in that all sounds capable of being produced cannot be ordered, comprehended, recognized, or appreciated until a mind processes it.

The art of performing and perfecting performance and composition is indeed a very logical and sensible art, but the fact is like everything we hear is just noise. Simply because we produce and organize it doesn't make it not so. No disrespect to music, lol. I only brought that up because if one genre is simply "noise" then all others might just as easily be considered noise. Unlike with language, I don't think there is an innate capacity to "understand" music. And while music clearly revolves around ordered and structured laws, music still just consists of noises we subjectively prefer, arrange, and make sense of. You might argue there are aspects that appeal to our "reptilian brains" so to speak (and thus exist in nature) but these things (like rhythm) are just a fraction of what makes up our understanding of music at this point in time.

All music is just noise that we trained ourselves to give merit to. I like this music and I kinda see how it fits with the new image.. but I'd rather just listen to this outside the game.

wip Mega Man Battle Network Boss Theme
mickomoo replied to Cyril the Wolf's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm honestly just glad someone's giving the battle network series some love -
@Moseph & dannthr: Thanks The recommended setup at least in standalone is to find the application and have it open simultaneously with the symphonic choirs (while having one of the WB multi patches running). What I did (which for some reason wasn't openly recommended or suggested) was just open symphonic choirs, load a wb patch, then select wordbuilder (it's one of 3 buttons atop the choir engine). That makes it really easy if you're running it in a DAW.

This is perhaps more for myself, placing the things I've done in one place, but if you guys have any general feedback that'd be greatly appreciated. Most of it is stuff I've posted earlier in the year. I'm an amateur composer so any advice would be appreciated. https://soundcloud.com/mickomoo/mistake

Yeah I know the topic is very vague. I have some questions though that might lead into open discussion. How do you know if you're stagnant or not improving? What do you do when you feel that way with certainty? Do you know when a song is finished for real? And how many times do you find yourself moving on to something new while an older project is still "open?" (ie: how many projects have you found yourself having unfinished at a time?)

I don't know if I posted this earlier, but I got EWQL's wordbuilder working. I don't intend to make it a prominent staple in my musical arsenal, but I do intend to use it occasionally. Does anyone have tips on getting the best out of it?

Dissidia, idk if I've ever asked you, but what vsts do you use? Also do you exclusively write orchestral music?

wip An RPG (orchestral) soundtrack

A bright song that I suddenly came up with -
Ditto with the oboe... though I am no where near this level of this composition and production lol. Awesome song!
