I finally came up with something that's sounding descent after several failed ideas.
-
Pretty standard trance, but that's not a problem for me. Fun and groovy remix you guys put together! I'm really enjoying the vocals, well done Deia!
@Thin Crust: Wow, really? You only came here to say that? Man is that sad.

Happy birthday Sixto!

Yeah, that's some theory skills. Can we all get DarkeSword remixing guidance? Now Avaris has an advantage!
"Works to my advantage too" is what I would say if I knew enough about theory to put that information to use.
EDIT: Well...that's not entirely true. It does help me a little bit.

Alright, I'm in. I'll post some gift ideas a little later.

The only good thing about being unemployed...I get plenty of music time. Though I do have to spend some time job searching, and I plan to start making an Android app.

Yup source is Cry in Sorrow. BTW I've never done this compo before so don't fret. Also I just had a wisdom tooth pulled and I am leaving on a flight for Sunday. So I gotta finish my track by Saturday.
Best of Luck!
Yeah, good luck to you as well. I'm looking forward to all the music that'll come out of this compo.

Welp, round 1 is sure gonna be my last one. I mean to go out with a bang, though, and I'm getting better all the time, so Sixto, please be sure to kick my ass well and thoroughly.
I'm in the same boat, I face an uphill battle. Going out with a bang is also my plan.
@Avaris, are you still using
as your source? -
I use a template in FL Studio that Neblix made a while ago. It sets up channels for instruments and drum samples, and routes them to a seperate track on the mixer. The EQ plugin is ready to go on each track, and the template sets up a drum bus. The other thing I like about Neblix's template is that it sets up MIDI Out channels for Kontakt, really useful.
Having a template speeds up my workflow, wasting less time on setup. I'm sure other DAW's have the ability to save templates as well.

Happy birthday!

The sigs looks good but they are a bit too tall
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, a bit tall.

Thanks for the sig Sir Strader!

Where's the roster?
EDIT
is there another website I need 2 go to to view the brackets?
It's in the same doc as the list of themes, click the roster tab.

I know you guys are in the process of printing the physical albums, I'm wondering if the album is a "while supplies last" type of thing. Or will I be able to pick one up at any time?

My point was simply not to just listen to one side of the spectrum. If you want a real picture of what doing music for a living is like, you need to listen to anyone and everyone, and then make the decision if you want to make that path and how to make it. You need both the optimists and the cynics, then you need everyone in between. Find people that sell hundreds of copies of their album, then thousands, then tens of thousands, etc. note what they say that resound within you, seek out examples, then from all that decide what is best for you and your interests.
I think my wording for that just should've been better.
Ok, got it. In that case, I agree. I've had bad wording plenty of times (occasionally in replies to your posts), no biggie.

A lot of successful artists really have no idea what real failure is like
Maybe it's just me, but this statement seems somewhat hostile. I'm sure a lot of successful artists actually do know what failure is like.
Aside from that, at what point is an artist considered to be successful? I'm also curious what qualifies as real failure.
I agree you should also seek advice from artists who have experienced failure, but the way you're wording it seems harsh.

OCR Talkback #7 brought me to this mix! Anyway, on to the remix. This is an awesome arrangement of Marble Zone, great work! I'm really feeling right when the bass comes in at 0:31, the rest builds from there. The second section of the source is sounding great in this mix. The bass really shines between 2:31 and 3:00. Overall, incredible remix!

Hey MindWanderer, nice to see Remixing with the Stars start up again! I'm going to sit this one out, I want to focus on Brandon's Final Fantasy competition.
Have fun everyone!

My picks *gasp*!
I thought we only pick three, the instructions say to list top 3.
Also, as NovaReaper pointed out, 24 will end up with an odd number.

Count me in!
1. FF9 Beatrix
2. FF7 Red XII
3. FF6 Cyan

We live in an age of saturated hardcore "rock and roll" philosophy thanks to decades of worshiping anti-establishment figures combined with a die-hard, anarchic internet piracy ethos where no one ever actually buys music when they can get it for free somewhere - of course some people are going to be dicks about it and call it a "principle".
If on one ever buys music, how do people continue making money from music? I think the amount of "piracy" is overblown. Most people are willing to pay a fair price for music they enjoy, and are also happy to support those musicians.

It wasn't until 2005/2006 that I began branching onto internet forums, one of which included OC ReMix just because. I never really kept up with anything that wasn't Mario/Donkey Kong for whatever reason until maybe 2010; during that time, Emunator kind of convinced me to open my ears and listen to things from games I normally wouldn't care for.
I used to be the same way, only listening to remixes from my favorite games. Now I listen to every remix posted on the site, even if I have no attachment to the game. I'm glad I started branching out, it's been rewarding.
On a related note, OCR has also exposed me to genres that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise. I gained my appreciation for metal from OCR, which is funny considering OCR gets accused of having all techno. Another example is hip-hop and rap. Before OCR, I didn't at all care for those genres. Nothing like great remixes of VGM to change your thoughts about music!
To sum up, OCR has given me a greater appreciation for unfamiliar sources, and a wider variety of genres.

I'd like to give a shout-out to MindWanderer and Cash. They made this an extremely enjoyable experience and I think I learnt quite a lot. Big up the Capitals of Science!
Thank you sir! Given our experience level, I think we did alright for ourselves!
Happy Palpable Day!
