  1. Alright. I appreciate the input, as well as that it's okay to not change it too much. I'll work on revising it when I get the time tomorrow.
  2. That actually helps me out a little bit; my current attempts of remixes fall under that problem: I either like it so much that I can't think of a way to rearrange it while still sounding good, or I just wasn't confident in it.
  3. I know how you feel about keeping the original feel. I just publicized a remix I made for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and frankly, I feel it doesn't sound melodically faithful to the original. But then, how it does sound (melancholic) is one of my strengths.
  4. Attempted a piece with a little more originality to it. Hopefully, this can be considered a remix, as opposed to either an original or an outright cover. If not, by all means, let me know how it could improve. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/metroid-prime-2-echoes-titles
  5. Well, in regards to the main topic, I recently acquired a full license of the Arturia Prophet V. It's a terrific virtual analog for the Prophet 5 component, but, unlike the other Arturia recreations, it also has digital wavetables from the Prophet VS, which makes it better than the other Arturia software, in my opinion. Both of my Portal mod pieces made so far (in the Original forum) make use of this synth, and several other recent ones on my Soundcloud page do as well. Wavetable-talk in mind, I also feel the Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V is REALLY worth it, especially since, like the Korg Legacy Collections, the recreation has a retail price lower than what you'd think! All the classic wavetables, the Waveterm B factory sample library, multichannel options, and even built-in effects, all for somewhere like $179!
  6. Looked at my Steam library of games, as well as YouTube videos, and, upon discovering it is POSSIBLE to mod Portal on the Mac, I started working on an alternate soundtrack. Here are the two pieces I've composed so far, both on the ambient side of gameplay, the first being for the main menu. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/cryo-state http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/alien-glass
  7. Just took a listen. A little short, but they're great!
  8. I've heard the Portal 1 soundtrack, and it's really good, in my opinion; it was sort of the border between ambient and techno. I also like the Amnesia soundtrack, primarily for Mikko Tarmia's talent with producing eerie melodies. Not many other modern soundtracks I like, sadly; when it comes to game music, I'm mostly reserved for the '90s.
  9. Just did this as well. Made for the intention of sounding like electronic credits music. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/cyber-finale
  10. Decided to compile the rest of my current list of demo pieces into a single thread, keeping in mind another user did the same. This is some dark music inspired by Gary Numan's 90s darkwave. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/the-slippery-slope These two pieces were made entirely with the Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/pretty-pocket-games http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/amnesia-strange-hall Just two sounds from the Korg Wavestation VST http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/serenity A somewhat-popular choral among my pieces, done entirely in Spectrasonics Omnisphere. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/amnesia-church-theme Feedback would be deeply appreciated. I acknowledge they're not the loudest pieces in the world.
  11. Alright. Yeah, I thought much of it sounded too similar to the original. Thanks for the encouragement, though.
  12. I only just found this thread. Greetings, everyone. I am a sophomore college student hoping to be a music composer for games. Hoping I can start off here because I'm not satisfied with whether I'm original or not, yet, as well as getting interested in remixes, covers, and the like. I already have some original releases available on Bandcamp, if anyone wants sonic reference as to what I do. http://sgtyayapproductions.bandcamp.com/ I look forward to the experience, here.
  13. This piece was inspired by the Ratchet and Clank games. Would've submitted it as a remix, but it makes no reference to any gameplay piece in particular. http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/infiltration
  14. I'm hesitant to submit this Amnesia-related piece as a remix on this site; like another member's case, I fear it borders more along a cover. I'll let the public decide, however: http://soundcloud.com/sgtyayap404/light-of-god
  15. I'm looking for more '90s sounds for my music. That said, does anyone know the source of a drumloop? The bass drum is somewhat-electro in sound, with a hand-clap-like sound for a snare drum, and it's featured in this soundtrack-style song: It also is the main rhythm in this darkwave song by Gary Numan: Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this.
  16. Terrific! Among the sample sets are the software versions of the Emu Proteus/1 and Proteus/2, which, together, include all of the sounds used in the Myst soundtrack!
  17. I often try to do the same thing, Bahamut. That's one reason I'm able to enjoy one-hit wonder bands for more than just their biggest hits, such as Gary Numan ("Cars") and Mr. Mister ("Broken Wings").
  18. Found out about a site called Sampleism via the Soundcloud App Gallery. Does anyone use that for obtaining samples? As for what I'm a fan of, Digital Sound Factory, while focusing primarily on '80s and '90s samples, has a great selection of sample downloads, most being available for less than $50! http://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/
  19. I'm not a fan of too much processing, frankly, but at the same time, I like enough for it to sound professional. And even then, it's hard to make my pieces as loud as the music of most of the other music I hear without destroying the quality of the audio (i.e. clip distortions).
  20. I often use Spectrasonics products, and I can confidently say that Omnisphere is worth your money. You can make almost any virtual-analog sound with its built-in synth engine, for one. I was even able to recreate the heartbeat-like sound from the Terminator 1 soundtrack on it! As for what samples it comes with, if you're nostalgic, like I am, a significant portion of the built-in library consists of highlights from their '90s/early '00s sample CD's like Distorted Reality and Symphony of Voices. In addition, some of said sounds were outtakes never released before, most notably in the case of Bizarre Guitar soundsources, so you can still make a different sound. It also includes all of the content from the previous version of the synth: Atmosphere.
  21. Personally, maybe it's just that I'm biased through the old-school sounds I use in my music, but I agree with the title of this thread, at least insofar as the kind of music that typically plays on the radio. For one, I saw a concert video on YouTube a few weeks ago celebrating the 60th birthday of Sting from the '80s band The Police. While I like that it shows modern artists do show respect for classic music, frankly, I hated the way Lady Gaga sung her part of "King of Pain"; I very much preferred the noirish sound of the original, especially because of the synths and Stewart Copeland's drumming. Where soundtracks specifically are concerned, I am a little more open-minded because, well, there's just so much diversity in genres in film and game music.
  22. I just so happen to be friends with the creator of this product. Don't have Reason, sadly, but I do have the Kontakt version of this product, which I've occassionally used in my music here and there.
