  1. Hey guys. I've been working on a collab with Petra V on a cover of Fear Not This Night from Guild Wars 2, with her on vocals and me on piano, and in her mastering I can hear quite a bit of distortion and a sort of weird shimmer effect in the mix. I can't pinpoint exactly what's wrong myself, and I'd really appreciate it if people could help me fix up this problem. It's mainly audible in the piano at the beginning and end. Thanks guys! https://soundcloud.com/listentopetrav/fear-not-master-test-1-0/s-Ru27P
  2. | Tindeck LinkI picked up Bravely Default yesterday and immediately after hearing this theme, I knew I had to make a little arrangement of it. The art and sound design of Bravely Default are pretty unique - it's incredible the amount of depth that they've achieved in such a sprawling game, and the attention to detail is amazing. I really liked this track too, has some really nice key changes and stuff. Enjoy!
  3. A lot of new material in this one! A bit more original interpretation near the end, as well! Really liking how this is turning out.
  4. Update: And it's finally done! Working out the ending took aaaaaages. I'm really happy with this as a finished arrangement - I can tell a few things sound a little out here and there, but I'm thinking/hoping that the strength of the arrangement can push past some of the less desirable sounding elements of the mix. Hope you guys enjoy! Critique would definitely be nice considering this is probably the most detailed arrangement I've ever worked on. Thanks guys! OLD Versions: Thought I'd jump on the bandwagon a little late (how long has it been, at least 2 years now?) and make a nice little orchestral arrangement of Skyrim's main/trailer/DOVAHKIN theme as a test of how well I can make these arrangements. Obviously it's still pretty rough, but I've laid down the basic elements for the mix and some sections are starting to sound pretty cool I think. :3 A lot of new material in this one! A bit more original interpretation near the end, as well! Really liking how this is turning out.
  5. And finished! So many changes that I could list... Really pleased with this, though. Final remix link Any feedback would still be really appreciated! Thanks guys!
  6. @Cheersm8: Thanks a lot! And yeah, there are a few little references scattered throughout. I don't want to spoil many of them but, the one I think you're hearing is actually a reference to I Don't Want To Say Goodbye from PMD2, but it does indeed sound remarkably similar to Sky Tower too. ^^ In the mix, you might possibly also hear a few references to some Pokémon X/Y tracks if you listen carefully? We opted to use the PMD one mainly because it's so recognisable as coming from those games and it ties the track back to the previous games in the series a little. We also basically based the whole thing on the main melody of the Bittercold theme, and then went a little nuts. XD Some parts don't have any of the Bittercold theme at all, because we've built upon counter-melodies that we wrote. Glad you enjoyed it!
  7. Yup! That's the one. Thanks for the feedback! We're hoping to be able to finish this one pretty soon and right now we look on track to be doing so.
  8. Whooops! Posted the wrong version! ^^; Titled the same thing, so a somewhat understandable mistake. Anyways, here's the current version:
  9. Update! And finished! So many changes that I could list... Really pleased with this, though. Final remix link Any feedback would still be really appreciated! Thanks guys! Old: Electric Mudkip and I have been working on this for about a week now, and we're beginning to see the final result of the structure of the track. Definitely quite a bit of refining left to do, and any feedback would be really appreciated!
  10. | Tindeck LinkDefinitely a strange little track to work on. The original is quite an interesting piece, and in this remix I've tried to bring out the melody a bit more while including some more ambient piano effects. This was pretty cool to work on, so if you guys like this kind of stuff I'd love to make more.
  11. @liltommyj: Thank you! I'll take the left hand thing into consideration on my next composition! And so, yeah, the YouTube link has now gone a little crazy (somehow I've made just over 30 sales on bandcamp overnight XD) so I'm going to work on some basic sheet music for all of this.
  12. @liltommyj: Holy shit dude! xD Fancy seeing you here. ^^ Thanks! I worked pretty hard making sure the melody didn't ever clash with the underlying chords. I actually performed each little part in chunks of about 8 measures (I've got a MIDI controller with weighted keys) and then stitched the whole thing together. Because of this, some bits in some areas sound a little too perfect, but I like to think that I did a good enough job to make it sound like a single performance. The main reason I do this is because I generally compose based on recorded improvisations, and without it it's a little difficult to work out a structure due to the lack of ability to add new sections without re-recording the whole piece. Glad you liked it, man! I really enjoyed your Console Wars thing, it sounded really lovely.
  13. And it's finished! Really pleased with how this turned out in the end. Hope you all enjoy it!
  14. @Paul: Thank you! I find that usually Einaudi's pieces are a bit too devoid of that many different ideas, and in this piece I was aiming to recreate a similar feeling of calm and unintrusive almost 'background' music. As for this piece in particular, I was trying to create to create a quite light and bouncy feel (hence the occasional higher note). I suppose another feeling I was going for was a sort of nostalgic happiness with a few little added minor parts to strengthen out the major areas. As the name suggests, I'm also trying to recreate the basic feeling of Spring (although that might not have necessarily be conveyed so well). The finished, mastered and everything else version should be done and released by the end of tomorrow. ^^
  15. I'm going to try and share this as much as I can, because it's awesome! I was planning on remixing this myself but most of the styles I usually do aren't exactly compatible with the song. Nice work!
  16. I'm thinking this is basically finished right now (or at least ideas for more expansion on any motifs are completely used up). Would be nice to see some opinions.
  17. FINAL UPDATE: | Bandcamp LinkAnd it's finished! Really pleased with how this turned out in the end. Hope you all enjoy it! OLD: Just working on this for a friend, based on the brief: "Something light and happy like Spring :')" Very inspired by the works of Einaudi. Trying to make an effective piece with very few elements is fun. ^^
  18. Just put this up for mod review. Thanks in advance! (Also sorry for double-post.)
  19. Got a finished product! Still a lot to polish and fix, but this looks like it's going to be the finished structure. I redid mastering and mixing from scratch so it probably sounds a bit rough, but hopefully not too loud or overcompressed. Headphones are almost necessary to hear most of the more detailed string parts in this. Feedback would be awesome! Hoping to finish up everything over the next two days and constructive advice would be really useful.
  20. Update 3! Just put this up for mod review. Thanks in advance! Update 2! OLD: Yet another WIP! This is definitely one I'll finish completely by the looks of it. This track is incredible to work with, and some of the parts I've done already were really fun to do. After about a year working with this kind of software, this is definitely the track where I'm noticing the huge amount of progress I've made over the period. Panning is a little basic for now, but I'll be patching everything up for the next update.
  21. After a bit of a drought of finished remixes and covers, here's FINALLY a piano/multitracking remix that I made and finished up fairly quickly. Not much to it, and mostly I'm just aiming to see the variety of timbres I can give my pianos in different sorts of styles of music. Also, a personal favourite after playing a lot of Theatrhythm. Enjoy!
  22. Not much to say about this so far. Just posting a very early WIP. ^^ It's been fun so far.
  23. This is the semi-finished version structure-wise. I'll be going away for about two weeks so I'll find the time to fix any production issues when I get back. Thanks for all the feedback, guys!
  24. Thanks for the advice! Still haven't got round to applying most of that stereo separation stuff yet, but I'll try and work on that for the next version. Thanks for the offer of mixing as well! The program you suggested also looks pretty sweet. I think right now I'm fine in terms of mixing by my own standards, but if I need any more professional quality help I'll know where to come. ^^ This is version 0.4! Fairly pleased with the progression so far, and I'm going to try to get those strings near the end sounding a little sharper.
  25. I've just got selected to possibly be composing for a Machinima Minecraft build series (through a friend who happens to be a director of a project) and I've been tasked with producing a 'demo reel' kind of thing to show off what I can do. The style for my brief has essentially been 'generic film music', and I've recently started working on said project. Problem is, I'm going through a bit of a musical slump and am rapidly losing inspiration and ideas for this project. Luckily, I've managed to power on a bit and I've mocked up just over a minute of (mostly filler) a composition and would love to get some feedback. Right now it's definitely more about the general feel of the music and possibly the general overall sound quality. So as not to completely melt my computer, I haven't rendered on highest quality settings, but this is about as close as I can get without taking hours and hours for each update. It'd also be great if people could possibly suggest some nice 'epic' orchestral chord progressions that aren't overused. I keep on coming across ones that I want to use but don't because film music is already saturated with them. Thanks in advance!
