OCR01008 - Final Fantasy VII "Of Transformants and Brevity"
Domukaz replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Creeeepy stuff going on here. Hard to pick out a melody, period, but very interesting to listen to...weird laughing/hacking sounds, footsteps, those whispers...perfect for a horror scene. I like it while I'm listening to it, but not after...the aftereffect is weird--it's like I'd be insane to listen to it a second time, but I listen to it again and enjoy the ambient horror of it. Put a happy song after this on the playlist. You'll be glad you did. This is not a cheery piece at all. That said, enjoy! -
OCR01006 - Sonic the Hedgehog "sonik special"
Domukaz replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Like AmIEvil's "Battle Rocks," this mix could very easily be placed in a heist flick, like "Ocean's Eleven." Anyway, I love the bassline. Reminds me of the aforementioned heist flick. When the melody comes in-gold. It's something I'd crank up if I were a DJ at one of my school's dances. -
OCR01000 - Super Mario RPG "Booster Tarantino"
Domukaz replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Good stuff! This theme, in my opinion, is much better than the Booster Tower theme, and more entertaining to listen to. As such, this arrangement rocks, with awesome instruments and a cool beat. Two thumbs. -
OCR00311 - Final Fantasy VII "Red XIII Redux"
Domukaz replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Love that last part, where the notes are long and slowly rise, then end in four quick notes. DA DA DA DA! Sorry. Very good stuff from AmIEvil, as usual. I mean, does bad stuff ever come from AmIEvil? Don't answer. This is highly recomended, but a RedXIIIRedux, Redux is necessary, one that's longer. -
Awesome. I can almost picture some little demon hopping around, lobbing orbs of energy at passers-by. The tune sounds sinister, even though one can just barely tell it was supposed to be cheerful. Love the instrumentation and the little ambient interlude in the middle of the song. Definitely one of Cotmm's more accessible works, because of its beat.

OCR00535 - Super Metroid "Four Little Metroids"
Domukaz replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Aesome, awesome, awesome. AmIEvil does it again with a massively immersive experience. I'm listening to the ReMix as I write this, because I find it hard to remember all that's great about any one remix. Love the pulsing throb in the intro, makes you feel like something BIG, NASTY, GELATINOUS, and HUNGRY is right behind you. The Brinstar section seems to sound more like Samus is exploring a ship that's wrecked but still dangerously active. More like she's dodging and hiding than fighting, in my opinion. Then Maridia comes up. THE most ambient and creepy part of the remix. Sounds like it belongs in the Wrecked Ship, or a crypt. Computer noises. Here's the "Let's kick some butt!" part comes in. The computers have calculated the full extent of the wreck's infestation, and Samus is going after the Metroids with a vengeance! Left, right, missile! FREEZE, buster! Flip back, and let loose a barrage! Oh no! Here comes a Hyper Metroid! Will Samus survive!? Will she kill the Hyper Metroid? TO BE CONTINUED.... Obviously, the remix is very epic and immersie, perfectly nailing the mood of Super Metroid: frightening and exciting. Definitely one of the best mixes on the site for its use of SFX and arrangement to immerse the listener. Congrats once again, Mr. Evil! -
OCR00620 - Mega Man 2 "Wily Meets Flash Man"
Domukaz replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is really, really, good. Possibly one of the few things here one could actually dance to, due to two factors: 1. It KEEPS a steady, fast beat throughout, which makes it easier to dance to. 2. The tune is catchy! Hard to dance to something that you won't remember, in my experience. The composition is excellent, but more so in the case of Wily's theme. It sounds a heck of a lot better than the Flashman bits in this Mix (Though that's saying something, as Flashman is still very good). I love how Wily's theme is layed into the background of the Flashman theme. Listening to this on endles loop is fun.... -
OCR00970 - Super Mario Bros. 3 "Battle Rocks"
Domukaz replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This track rocks. Period. I can picture this being in a crime-caper flick like Ocean's Eleven or The Italian Job, in a montage where the criminals are getting organized and everything. Either that, or it's the perfect night-cruisin' track. Ever since hearing Mustin's awesome Sax skills in Controlled Jazz and The Atomizer, not to mention Cecil's Jinn & Juice, I've had a soft spot for the sax, and this piece is like a bolt outta nowhere. With awesome instruments, a good supporting piano, and a solo in the middle that I adore, this is easily one of my faves. 9/10 for its somewhat too-electronic organ. -
OCR00067 - Mega Man 2 "Flash Fire"
Domukaz replied to Joe Redifer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Highly excellent piece, remixing the FLASH MAN theme (For those not paying attention). I personally like it better than StainlessSteel. StainlessSteel's first two minutes were good, because of a little thing called the melody. This mix keeps the melody throughout, and also uses some very cool variations on the main theme. Congrats on another great ReMix, Mr.AE. -
For some reason, whenever I listen to NoppZ's arrangements, i just can't help but smile when I finally recognize a tune, plus he usually does very cheery mixes of fairly cheery songs (Heck, he even made Kefka's theme sound cheerful in his FIRST remix here), unlike a lot of other remixers. Anyhoo, i didn't recognize the first song in this medley, but the other two are the millenial fair and Spekkio's theme. Excellent arrangement, with fairly good sampling, as usual, and an infectious sense of HAPPY! is throughout the whole thing. The beat is impossible not to like, as well. it's an excellent "pick-me-up" song if you're down. Good work, NoppZ!

OCR00436 - Final Fantasy IV "Ground Up"
Domukaz replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I've always been a fan of that lonely-yet-encouraging FFIV overworld theme. This mix makes it sound at least 100% better. It's a pretty sound, with the melody being played by a cool wind instrument-thing (Pardon my newbiosity). I agree with the others. If they ever remake FF!V in 3D, this should be the overworld tune. -
OCR00364 - Mega Man 2 "Stainless Steel"
Domukaz replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
If a Mega Man movie were to be made, this ReMix would go in an effortless fight scene in which Mega Man is attacked with huge numbers and repulses them easily. Either that, or it would make a great theme song for that awful TV show... Anyway, cool background, even if it is slightly repetitive (Though most Mega Man tunes are repetitive in the first place). It almost drowns out the main theme, though. It's probably my lack of attention span that makes it seem too loud. Very high quality, and very well done! Can't believe it was made on FruityLoops. -
OCR00883 - Chrono Trigger "Green Amnesia"

I'm going to indulge myself a bit here: Dan the Man in the Can with the Plan had done it aGAN! Very cool, relaxing, and beautiful throughout. Good wrok, keep it up. -
FRUITY LOOPS 101 - PLEASE direct -ALL- FL questions here
Domukaz replied to starla's topic in Music Composition & Production
Suppose I wanted to use Soundfonts. Do I need a special program to use 'em on FruityLoops? Do I need it to use the soundfonts? From what I've read, the answer is yes, but where can I snag this program? -
FRUITY LOOPS 101 - PLEASE direct -ALL- FL questions here
Domukaz replied to starla's topic in Music Composition & Production
All right, I'm considering getting FruityLoops, sounds cool, 'specially since I heard that some of my favorite Remixers use it. Unfortunately, I need to save up some money, having a low cash flow. Plus, I love music, but I haven't got much musical training. So, just a few questions. For someone without much money, which is the best version of FruityLoops to buy? If I buy it, will I really need any other programs to make a high-quality mix? Which ones? How much musical talent do you need to use this tool? -
I could barely tell it was Cutman until it picked up in tempo, but it has emotional power on par with the Trial theme ReMix from Chrono Trigger . McVaffe once again proves his place in the OCR elite with this excellent piece.

OCR00239 - Final Fantasy VI "Devil's Lab (Acid Mix)"
Domukaz replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sounds like in belongs in a massive mechanical fortress--just like Vector. TOO SHORT!! But the mix is good, I'll grant it that. Two more cycles with variations on the theme, maybe less mechanical on cycle #2 and all-out industrial destruction on cycle #3, would pick this mix up pretty well. 7/10 -
OCR00250 - Final Fantasy VI "DevilSLAB"

If Tenchu was set in the future, I imagine this is what the music to the factory level would be. Cool ambience with the machinery sounds and the varied instrumentation. Dm Dm Dm, Da Da Da Da Da Dm... -
OCR00689 - Final Fantasy IV "SNES Battle Medley"
Domukaz replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Loved everything--EXCEPT the Atma Weapon sequence. Taking liberties with the original I can deal with, but a guitar doesn't suit the Weapon's tune. I couldn't recognize it. Even so, it was a great piece. Bravo! -
OCR00851 - Sonic CD (JP) "Stardust Beat"
Domukaz replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I liked this ReMix. It captures the feeling of a futuristic "Good" city so well (To me, anyway) that I can't help but take a listen now and then. Keep in mind, the citylike part I refer to is about 55 seconds in--hey, two people in this thread have the same favorite part! Compared to the AWESOME sax solo in Mustin's Atomizer, the synth sax sucks. However, it does complement the rest of the ReMix, which does have an antiquated 70's feel to it. All in all, this one deserves to be recognized. Congrats, Gecko Yamori! -
OCR00163 - Final Fantasy VI "The Atomizer"
Domukaz replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Excuse my constant posting, I'm new; I just want to review a few things that I've downloaded. Halfhearted disclaimer aside, this is a hell of a piece, in the best way possible. It's got a cool stereo switch in the beginning, which then goes into a furious buildup, which comes to the original Atma Weapon fight music, complete with little bleeps and bloops from the menu selection in the background. After the main theme is stated--I'm doing this from memory, so the sequence is probably wrong--comes my very favorite part. The guitar and sax solos. The guitar is awesome, but the saxophone is so great that I'd love to hear a full ReMix in the style.[/subtle hint] The rest kinda falls out of my memory after that, but there are some cool sound samples used in bizarro ways. For instance, some Looney Tunes plays in the beginning. Domukaz gives five out of five for being original, and for those few seconds of jazzy bliss.
