  1. Blaster Master 'Der Überfrosh' K. Praslowicz definitely has a cool industrial thang going on here. I gotta admit I didn't like this at first, but then I got used to KP's very sonically heavy style and enjoyed it a lot. Anyway, this IS a well executed mix, even though it may take some time to grow on you.
  2. Little Nemo 'Goodnight, Little Nemo' Gotta love the Hawking-esque intro narration! Other than that, I can't say this is something I'd listen to on a regular basis, as the musical style doesn't really rub me the right way. But it's good at what it does, I'll give it that much.
  3. Final Fantasy VII 'String Machine (Corel Prison Mix)' More quality stuff from FFmusic Dj. Some don't like his trancy style, so it may not be your cup of tea, but if you're into that kind of stuff (like I am) then go for it 'cause this is some of the best trance you'll find right here! Some people have complained about not being able to find what song was remixed. It does take a little while to jump into an FF7 song, but be patient and you'll be treated with a kick-ass rendition of the Corel Prison theme. Bottom line: I can listen to this for hours on end. Highly recommended.
  4. Final Fantasy VIII 'Perdition Hardcore' Heh, cool. I get to have the first word on my own mix! I'm pretty satisfied with it, though I would probably add a little more bass and a little less repetition if I did it all over. I can't recommend this fairly for obvious reasons, but I will leave you with a quote from one of my teachers about it: "I can totally see people dancing to this!" Take that how you will.
  5. Super Mario Bros. 2 'Underground Riddims' I know a lot of people who were driven insane by the SMB2 underground theme, so if that describes you then skip this. Otherwise, prepare yourself for some classic McVaffe groovage. Highlight is the sitar solo in the middle, which is totally unexpected but totally fits in as well. Plus, you gotta respect a guy who can make something worthwhile out of such a short theme. Recommended.
  6. Zelda II 'Temple Trippin'' Well, I guess this isn't a bad mix, but it really doesn't stand out - nothing to incredible or even memorable about it. It's short though, which in this case is good - I think this remix would have been much worse if it had been drug out. But overall, unless you're desperate for Zelda 2 Temple mixes, I would move on to a different song.
  7. Final Fantasy IV 'Rydia (Clean Mix)' I am honored to be able to get the first word in on this remix. This is Kaijin's best, IMHO, and given his consistently high production values, that's saying a lot. Anyway, this as a damn near perfect rendition of Rydia's theme - sounds like it should go at the end credits of an FF4 movie or something. Very well thought out - nothing stagnates (except maybe the drum loop), and nothing stands out inappropriately. If you can't tell by now, this song is highly recommended.
  8. Final Fantasy IX 'Qu's Marsh (Swamp Rat)' Well, sorry to say it but this mix really doesn't do it for me. Three are some cool parts that I can't help but enjoy, but the GM-ish sound quality and the needless repetition really drag it down. Not that bad, but not that great either.
  9. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 'Mud Mix' Someday I will get laid to this remix. Other than that, all I have to say is that it's Scott Peeples, and that alone is a reason to download it immediately and listen for at LEAST a couple days straight. It's that good, though if you know Peeples it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
  10. Final Fantasy VI 'Kefka Goes West' Once upon a time, there was a shortage of Kefka remixes. Then along came NoppZ and filled the void with a very funky remix of our favorite FF villian music, complete with an interlude based on none other than the Veldt theme. Instrumentation is great here - gotta love the organ stabs, and the guitars on Wild Wild West! Transitions are well executed, which is rare for a song with such distinct sections. My only complaint is the absence of Kefka's laugh! That's gotta be the most classing sound in FF history...
  11. Phantasy Star IV 'Last Breath, First Breath' Can I really say anything bad about djpPretzel's remixes? Regardless of the answer, I wouldn't have to here. Very well orchestrated, and very emotional. The high quality samples are the icing on the cake. My favorite moment has to be around 2:40 when it bursts from the quiet piano and strings into louder instrumentation, a transition that though simple is very inspiring. I dig mucho.
  12. Sonic & Knuckles 'Hot Stuff' Above average techno here. Drum work is nice - doesn't loop too much. Sounds minimalistic at times, but for the most part is really fleshed out quite well, and the minimalistic bits are used appropriately. Other than that there's not much to make it stand out from the crowd, but it's still an enjoyable listen.
  13. Chrono Trigger 'Time Punk' Very nice remix from jaxx. The only thing holding this back is its length - at 1 minute exactly, I would have liked to hear a lot more. But overall, a welcome addition to the plethora of Zeal mixes.
  14. Cool! Looks like this one's going up! Pizza, could you email a digest of comments to.... er... never mind. *locking*
  15. BTW, DJ Pretzel, if this gets posted, could you rename it? Not Alone is the pretty much the title of the original song, and I couldn't figure out anything better.
  16. So... you're saying that a remix shouldn't go on OC just because it's on VGmix? Personally, I never download from VGmix unless a song gets rave reviews, because their 'let everyone be heard' philosophy lets a lot of crap through. In short, I trust OC much more than I trust VGmix.
  17. I don't think a direct link will work, since last I checked RPGamer doesn't allow off-site linking.
  18. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If you have AIM then contact me (nick: orkybash) and I'll see if I can hook you up.
  19. What? Someone hasn't heard this yet? (: VGMIX TO THE RESCUE!!!!!!!!!
  20. Nice little mix here. Coulda used a little more punch, but I like it anyway.
  21. Trance at its finest! Well, maybe not that good. In fact, it's a bit repetative for my tastes. But it's still getting a Yes from Orkybash.
  22. Woah... wacked out intro!!! Wacked out mix, for that matter! This is truly minamalism done well. It's too out there for me not to vote yes. In fact, I think the only thing I can really criticise is the fade-out ending. But overall, a yes from me, and a thank you for the acid trip without acid. (:
  23. Hmmm... we don't get too many organ only mixes around here, so I'm tempted to say yes just for originality. But, this one really tweaked my ear with all its missed notes. Dissonance can sound really good when used artfully, but this just sounds like either someone's playing completely wrong notes, or *cough* someone copied and pasted notes without regard to how the arrangement actually sounds. Sorry, but I have to say No.
  24. Gah... I don't know about this one. Something about it just really grates on my nerves. Plus, it doesn't sound like too far a leap from original game audio. I'm gonna have to vote no here.
  25. Do we even need to vote? Or, in my case, download? (since I too have enjoyed it before) A heartfelt Yes.
