  1. @AngelCityOutlaw What do you mean by replacing the low bass frequencies of the bass with a sine wave? I recorded the bass with a bass guitar directly, not mic'ed, only VST in the recording is the drumset. So some of my volumes are low because when I was listening to the recording in reaper, the master volume was indicating that the end recording would have a ton of peaking that would cause clipping (dBs were occasionally hitting +2). I'm not sure if I'm communicating that right. Anyway, if you understood that and know of a way to get around it, I'm all ears.
  2. @timaeus222 So here's the latest iteration on my work in progress. I've added the bass track as well and fiddled with the EQ levels a bit more. One thing that's different from the last iteration is the fact that I haven't added a post-mix reverb.
  3. @Ronald Poe I mainly based the track off of the Hyrule Temple theme, with the remix using the Castle theme as part of its ending solo. I feel like I didn't twist the original that much, I took the melody from Temple and increased the tempo a bit. I mainly used this version of Temple as my base.
  4. Hi everyone, this is the work in progress that I've been focusing on mainly for the past month or so. I've taken the palace theme from Zelda II (known more widely as the Hyrule Temple theme from Super Smash Bros Melee) and the Hyrule Castle theme from Link to the Past and created a heavy surf rock remix focusing mainly on the Zelda II palace theme. My biggest concern is the production of the recordings, such as whether I've EQed my instruments in a way that you can hear them all, whether one instrument's volume is too low, etc. Feedback on drums is welcome as well, as this is the first time that I have used a MIDI instrument (in this case, Sennheiser and NI's Drummic'A). Any feedback would be more than welcome. Thank you! 5. @timaeus222 Got any recommendations on improving the recording? Is it the guitar tone? I'm currently recording directly from my multi-effect pedal rather than from a mic.
  6. I'd like to request a change from SilverMage to Furorezu, been using that name for IRC and my SoundCloud.
  7. @DarkeSword I've made some progress with working on mixing my WIP for Melee, here's what it sounds like at the moment sans bass guitar, which I'll be adding later this week.
  8. Is getting together and jamming a usual occurrence for folks around here? Not even to collaborate on music but getting together for jam sessions or anything of the sort?
  9. Hi everyone! I'm mainly an electric guitar playing and I like to play and make energetic sounding music so I've set myself a challenge of making surf rock versions of whatever songs I think would sound good with them. I've dabbled in the past with doing so but up until last December or so, I hadn't composed anything serious but since then, I've made a few demos and am in the process of learning how to produce better so that I can submit them here and hopefully make it.
  10. Hearing Garpocaylpse's link and doing some more testing on my own's led me to realize that maybe I should instead have a steady rhythm guitar and have two lead guitars playing in turns and each guitar assigned to the left and right.
  11. Awesome suggestions! I'll definitely lower the panning a little on the guitars, the reason that they're so hard-panned is because for some reason, messing with the pan knob on Reaper is a downright pain that I've never been able to figure out. I'm going to try out moseph's suggestion first. Though Neblix, I'm curious on what you mean by automating the pan knob? I'm pretty new to producing so I've been getting familiar with Reaper for only the past month or so. Also going to definitely give a listen to your link, Garpocalypse.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm working on a song with a call and response structure and currently, my vision is to have each guitar panned left and right. They will be changing duties between playing lead and rhythm guitar and I've done some testing on my own and so far, I'm not liking the way how abrupt the hand-off of rhythm guitar duty is sounding so I wanted to see if there's anyone else who's done something similar or knows maybe a trick or tool that I could use to make the transitions sound smooth. Here's a screenshot of what my tracks look like at the moment, if that's any help. I'm using Reaper 5.
  13. I've come to realize that trying to produce the song in Audacity wasn't going great so lately, I've been learning on how to use Reaper and using a parametric EQ to make my song sound much less chaotic. I'd like some feedback on some 30-second samples from the song in which I've used two different tones. Both have the same EQ settings as well so here are the factors I'd like feedback on: EQ balancing Guitar tone Bass guitar Thanks!
  14. D'oh, missed my chance to try to get in here, would have loved to have tried to get my Xenoblade remix in but that's far from being done.
  15. As a rough draft, here's the recording I was talking about Hyrule Temple. Production needs work but would my composition be up to snuff?
  16. I could contribute to for Super Smash Bros Melee, I've been messing around with a heavy surf rock cover of the Hyrule Temple stage theme I started on about 2 weeks ago. Though I'm still pretty new to the OCR community and still learning how to produce better recordings but I'll try to get a better sounding better of it soon!
  17. Thanks for the feedback, larrynachos! I've messed around with the song a bit more, implemented your feedback about the tracks not being balanced and added reverb to the drum track. As for the drum track, I went back to the sequencer and adjusted each piece of the kit's volumes and panning so I hope that it sounds a lot better in that regard. In my opinion, I think now my lead guitar sounds too soft in comparison to the rhythm but maybe others will have a better ear/insight than I. Anyway, here's the new recording, feedback is appreciated.
  18. Hi all, I'm new to OCR, decided to join since I've been working on some game remixes on my own time for a few months. I'd like to get some opinions on one of my remixes based on Xenoblade Chronicle's "Xanthe". I'm a big fan of surf rock and so far, every single one of my remixes have been along the vein of heavy surf rock. I'm mainly concerned about production so if anyone has some pointers based on my recording, I'd like to hear them, I want to eventually start submitting stuff to the judges. Thanks! Original
