*NO* Beatmania 2DX 7th Style 'Traces (Tracing the Noize Mix)' *RESUB*
zircon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Hmm, mastering does sound better volume-wise, though I would argue that it is almost a little too quiet now. Additionally, there are still definite EQ issues. I can't put my finger on it, but the frequency balance and stereo image just seems off - the bass doesn't sound full, and the highs sound dulled. Maybe you're using too many modulation-style effects. However, this is not a deal-breaker... the core issue is what Larry brought up, regarding arrangement. I mentioned this in a previous vote but now that it's all laid out, I have to agree that there is simply not enough source tune usage. Sorry man. Best of luck in future subs. NO -
IS Blood on the Asphalt the soundtrack for SF2HD?
zircon replied to dsx100's topic in General Discussion
Just to clarify, even though nothing is set in stone, I would point out that not all the songs from BotA are being used, and many are being tweaked heavily. -

Again, thanks guys. ALL responses are useful. You are not too late -
Sorry, I meant UT2k7, not UT2k3. Big difference

Video game survey for class - ULTRA SHORT - win an album

It's mostly a course about formulating a professional business plan and making it presentable to investors. The final project is, of course, making a realistic business plan (20-25 pages.) -
Video game survey for class - ULTRA SHORT - win an album
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Haha. Well, it's an idea that the leader of my group came up with, he has entire design docs about it. It's what our fictional (or perhaps... not so fictional) company is based around. -

And once again, thank you to all the new respondants. All the data is quite helpful. Everyone else in my group is in turn sending the survey to various places, so we'll have a lot to work with when all is said and done. -

zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys. This records respondents by IP - you don't log in - so posting here after completion is definitely not a bad idea, so I know who did it. -
I'm having a lot of fun with the demo, which is limited to two classes, no extra gameplay modes, no online play (I think?) but I haven't beaten it yet. So far, I am really enjoying it. I'll buy it when it comes out.

Silver, remind me why you can't just use both your keyboard AND the padkontrol as USB? Two separate devices, why do you need to route them together? The EMU 0404 is something you need to have, simply for having good ASIO drivers. It's cheap and worthwhile. -

Hey guys, I'm in an entrepreneurship class and as part of one of our projects, we're doing market research. If you play video games, please take a minute or two and take this BRIEF survey (6 questions). http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=hy7p3qorsUh414C2AFUXFg_3d_3d I would really appreciate it!! Post if you have any questions. Random person who takes it gets a digital copy of one of my albums free (your choice of album.) -
Well, it is $0 monthly unless you elect to pay ($10/mo for "elite"). Basically, elite players get more added content as the game goes on, 24/7 tech support, more features for account management, more game modes (like hardcore), and generally preferential treatment.

Looking for a specific sound, and can't construct it...
zircon replied to Rivek's topic in Music Composition & Production
The bass from that song doesn't really sound like it "glides" to me. The notes are staccato and not connected, aren't they? -
This is my current graphics card. # ASUS, EN7600GS SILENT/HTD, GeForce™ 7600 GS, 512MB DDR2, PCIe x16 SLI, VGA+DVI, TV-Out, Retail On my e6600 computer tweaked for performance, 10K RPM hard drive, and 2GB of RAM, I experienced fairly low framerates in UT2k3 and Hellgate London at the normal settings. Not surprising as I don't think my card is top of the line. However, one thing that is abysmal is the input lag. The mouse lag in both games is just AWFUL until the actual gameplay begins and I can increase mouse sensitivity... but even then, it is just not great. How good IS my graphics card, exactly? Is there an upgrade I can get for <$200 that would be worth it?

Building my own music studio
zircon replied to 100_PERCENT ROEMER's topic in Music Composition & Production
For good electronic samples in FL... can you be more specific? You may simply want a large collection of sounds like IK Multimedia Sampletank 2 XL, Sonik Synth 2, or Quantum Leap Colossus. These all will give you a wide variety of sounds in many categories. AnotherSoundscape speaks highly of it. Seems nice. -
Hey, the D2 one lasted, but D2 just doesn't have that much content... we beat all the way up to the ubers. Also, HGL has a demo. I just tried it and the game is exactly what I expected. Awesome 1st/3rd person demon/undead killing action RPG. The Diablo influences are incredibly obvious, but welcomed. Even on my new computer (2gb RAM, e6600 core 2 duo, 10k RPM hard drive) I had a low framerate... probably need a new video card.

Reason will record MIDI though - I didn't see him saying anywhere that he was doing recording of, say, guitar + vocals... -

I really really would not go with ProTools here. It sounds like you're primarily doing MIDI stuff. I recommend either reconsidering FL (as it is excellent for MIDI, particularly with the upcoming version then checking out the demos of: * Sonar 7 * Cubase 4 * Live 6 * Reason 4 See which you like the most based on that. I would also recommend you get a decent pair of headphones along with your monitors (the KRK ones are excellent), unless you are really confident about the acoustic treatment of your room and the placement of your monitors. Since you won't be needing PT, I recommend a solid $100-200 interface or soundcard - check my thread in the Guides & Tutorials forum on the topic for details. EMU 0404 is a solid bet for PCI. -
New album release - 'The World Circuit'!
zircon replied to zircon's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Honestly, I get enough download sales that I'm not even 100% sure on doing future full albums as physical... or if I do, I might do them as digipaks rather than standard hard copies. The manufacturing fees are just insane. Combined with distribution fees, I usually get only a little over 1/2 the list price, whereas with a download I'm getting 90% or more. Plus with physical, the only way to get even a decent deal (eg. $2 per CD or less) is to print a LOT of copies - like 500-1000 or more - and I'm not able to move that many. We'll see. Maybe I'll take a poll sometime As for this one, it's short enough that I think a physical run is not gonna be realistic - again, manufacturing costs are just prohibitive.. in response to Outspoken's question, yes, it will be on iTunes. It'll be the standard $10 which I have no control over (if it were up to me, I'd have it at $7 or so). I do remind everyone that IF you get the digital ver from my own site, or you get it from CD Baby's MP3 service, and you need another copy, just let me know. My download system is lenient. I'll never screw anyone over. -
Can't wait for this game. We need to do an OCR league.

I'm glad people are enjoying it! Of course, since posting this I have received absolutely 0 sales. I suppose most people that would be interested are on my mailing list, anyway -
Which Orchestral Sample Library?
zircon replied to Nutritious's topic in Music Composition & Production
If you have a halfway-decent handle on orchestration and you have a trained musical ear, then samples are less relevant than you'd think. We've had brilliant orchestral mixes get on the site with a wide variety of sample sets, including free ones. Don't get caught up on your samples. -
OCRA-0009 - Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream
zircon replied to zircon's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
So, I walked into a Gamestop today and was spending a bit of time browsing, when I heard a familiar song in the background... "Son of Chaos". I had to get closer to the sound system to be sure. I asked the manager who made the playlist, and he said he did, and I asked what it was and he said "oh that's from OCRemix.org!" I asked the second question, of course, because I wasn't sure if he knew the source of the music (hey, some people don't.) Anyway, I introduced myself and Jill and he was thrilled to have us there. He's apparently a huge fan of OCR and VotL - he grabbed it the day it came out. Other mixes played (while I was there) included "Airships Make Me Happy" and "Adrenalyne Kyck". I'm sure he had more queued up, but I didn't have a lot of time to spare. Good to know, eh? -
