  1. Whoa. 8O Did NOT expect to see my audition picked. Guess I better get to polishing that sucker up...

As I said last night, I'd love to take number ?? - "Battle with Magus."

Emperor: However, if were really hoping for that one, I'm willing to share/collaborate on it and claim another for myself (such as my second pick, "A Shot of Crisis"). Seems a little unfair for me to unofficially "claim" a song the night before....

  2. Um do we just post our desired tracks here or what? Guess I will anyway...

I'm interested in developing the heavier percussion sound I've been working on, so I'd love to claim a battle them of some sort (though I'm content with whatever I get assigned). So I guess my top picks are:

    1. Battle with Magus

    2. A Shot of Crisis

    3. Battle 1

But again, I'm willing to take whatever I get.

Dunno how we're splitting the tracks between remixers, but I'd gladly work on more than one track, or collaborate with others on some.

Looking forward to tomorrow guys. ^^

  3. Dang, that's the longest post I've ever seen that wasn't a tutorial. I'll have to read it in its entirety later.

    Sephfire -

I have listened to probably a thousand orchestral songs, and probably over a hundred OverClocked orchestral arrangements. Suffice to say, I have listened to a lot of music. Very few arrangements impact me on any emotional level, and those that do I find truly expectional in quality and performance. The Chrono Trigger game has always provided tremendous benchmarks in orchestral pieces.

Of these, only a few have actually moved me to tears as I listened to the tunes that evoked memories of this great, timeless game. Your arrangement 'Inciting Incident' was one, as was Spekkiosaurus's 'The Trial In Concert', DarkeSworde's 'Blue Skies over Guardia', and Unknown and Zyko's 'When All Hope Has Faded'.

Thank you for making this song.

Glad you liked it bro. And I appreciate the compliments. Those are definitely words that any musician would feel honored to hear. :)

  4. Everyone who has posted a WIP has done some nice work so far.

If we DO end up using whatever samples we want on an individual basis, I'm hunting down some new stuff. I don't really know how Orkester ranks in quality samples, but I've been moving closer to orchestra in my remixing style anyway, so it's a pretty good time to pick me up some really nice material to work with.

Claado: Well so long as you aren't setting a Dec. 1st release date, then any amount of remixers we can gather should be enough to handle the job.

  5. I like a lot of the percussion elements in that clip, bliz. I really like the drum kit Unknown used too. Where did you guys find the samples?

And BTW, does anyone have suggestions for cleaning up my audition piece? I figure I've gone to this much trouble, might as well polish it up a bit.

  6. Well I'm certainly not against the group sample kit. I'm sure there is better stuff out there than what I'm using. I'm sure I can do as well or better with other sounds. And I still agree with your original reasoning for using a shared sample bank. As cool as this project CD will probably sound, it'd really add something if all our work sounded like it was performed by one "orchestra."

But in the end, I think it's gonna sound sweet no matter how this thing is organized, so it really doesn't matter to me. Can't wait to hear what everyone else turns in. :)

  7. I be done. :)

Well, mostly done anyway. I ended up overshooting the time limit by about 30 seconds. And there's probably some polishing that I could do on mastering and maybe tweeking a few "muddy" parts. But this is pretty much it. ^^

    Inciting Incident

    Hope you enjoy. :D

(Oh and Claado, I'm pretty sure none of the samples I used are eligible for our "shared" kit. Except for some percussion, all sounds came from Reason's Orkester sound bank)

  8. I've delt with assholes like you who try to bend people's words into something they're not, and if you would read my [censored] post you would see that I'm not trying to be abusive (unlike you) and trying to find out what's going on behind this damn project, but you come and deface me and call me a troll after CLEARLY STATING that I wasn't trying to hurt anybody. I spent several hours trying to peice together this damn post so I would get to understand what's going on and not be entirely offensive and you tore into me like it said 'omg lame stfu! u sux!111!!'. I thank you for the KIND answer, MR. POST-SUBJECT-CREATOR, even though it doesn't really answer any of my questions, but it was atleast better than the slanderous, abusive filth some people have set to mental (underline on the MENTAL) auto-reply when somebody tries to ask a few simple questions.

Yeah, still siding with Darke. :?

On a third reading of your original post, I was able to find only one "simple question:" ...

Why would you want to take a wonderful, ageless masterpiece like Chrono Trigger and try to 're-do' it into a separate form like a movie.

I believe we've answered that question several times in several ways:

    For fun.
To reiterate what Darkesword said, remixing isn't something that you view as putting time and effort into. It's something you do because you enjoy doing it.
    I like Chrono Trigger
We're participating because we enjoy doing this, because we want to show our appreciation for the remixed game, and because we want to create something that we can share with others

So hopefully that question has been taken care of.

I've not read any replies that were any more slanderous or abusive than your original post. You questioned the motives of the script author without reading the script. You want to know what's behind this "damn project" although you've made it pretty clear how little you think of it.

Then we defend ourselves and our intentions, which you interpret as "abuse."

Please, someone dispute me if you disagree, but I am yet to find a response in anyone's post that is so abusive as you say.

If you do have questions that we haven't yet answered, please ask so we can try to answer and clear up any misunderstanding.

  9. Yeah, Darke got it all right. Claado isn't twisting the collective arm of the OCR community for this. We're participating because we enjoy doing this, because we want to show our appreciation for the remixed game, and because we want to create something that we can share with others (hmm, kinda like with everything else we remix... 8O ).

To anyone else who wants to whine about removed characters and scenes, Darke (again) said it best. Things have to change between different media in order to be effective within that media. You may remember the Lord of the Rings films?

Our work here is a tribute to the source material, not a plot to destroy all that you hold dear about Chrono Trigger.

(and no, nothing new on my WIP since this weekend)

  10. Dangit, I hate "songwriter's block" (term invented by me to make "talent deficit" sound professional).

Hey Unknown what were you using in your percussion section? I can't quite pick each instrument out, but it sounds tight.

I'm still working on mine. School is keeping me pretty pinned down though. Funny, I always thought to myself that I'd never attempt a remix of the CT opening theme because I'd never know what to do with it. I'll get something banged out eventually.

  11. Man, orchestral composition is killing me. It's definitely something I'm going to have to get the hang of.

After like 12 hours of work, this little 45 second bit is all I got (or all I'm letting anyone hear for now, the rest sucked too bad ^^ ).

Not sure exactly why I'm posting it now, this isn't a WIP forum .... I guess call it a preview or something?

Speaking of, Claado do we send the final audition pieces to you in PM or post them here?

  12. First off, sweet project concept Claado has come up with here. I'm really looking forward to hearing the final result.

I'll get to work on my audition piece, though synth-free orchestration is a bit new to me. I would argue that certain limited synth work be allowed as (from what I understand) some of our greatest modern film composers use them to reinforce the orchestra, such as Hans Zimmer ("The Last Samurai," "The Lion King," etc.): my film composing god. However, he uses it VERY subtely and I can easily see synth work getting out of hand here so I'll respect your call on this.

As for drum kits, I believe you can get fantastic battle music without utilizing any type of rock or electronic-style percussion. Take the "Pirates of the Caribbean" OST (my all-time favorite film OST). All traditional bass drum, timpani, etc. but it still packs a great punch. Of course, if that's what you meant by drum sets, than disregard this whole paragraph. ^^

I'd love to take/collaborate on a battle theme if possible. ^^

....aw, we lost zircon? boooooo....
