Thanks for the feedback Matt (and to some extent the cymbals; may take a look into them myself )! Glad to see you liked how things are turning out in Sonic Round 3 as a whole. In regards to the voice clip of choice, there's an interesting story to go for it. Originally, I was hoping to use this one (albeit with Dana Gould's voiceover instead of Leslie Philips; liked the delivery on both though xD), but as the track further developed, it just felt really out of place, hence having to find something briefer, to the point and kinda similar. It was indeed one of the factors that inspired the genre direction - for the past 5 months I've been spending a lot of time in the gym, and in that time I've shedded over 35 pounds, so to me it feels like a nod on getting my health back together. Amusingly, its working title was indeed "The Floating Island Fitness Club", which ultimately ended up becoming way too corny the more I worked on it. There we go, Rexy's random thoughtful rambles #492.

Dude, that sounds lovely and could even work with this old thing, but £300 for it? It may be considerable, but I won't call it an urgent purchase. I'll still be fine with whatever patches I have

Has anyone here listened to everything on OC ReMix?
Rexy replied to dkhustlin's topic in General Discussion
First of all, welcome to OCR Onto the subject at hand - We don't discuss favorites here, just so you know. The remixes have all had great purposes throughout the track's history, and even the quirky ones have their moments just as much as the ones that really upped the quality. In addition to making my own, I enjoy listening to all these as much as I can, and even going back to those from years before that I probably overlooked the first time. But I, like most others, haven't even heard them all and it would probably take years before that would even happen. I know that OA and Level99 succeeded, but I don't know about anyone else just yet o_O -
That may be a bit difficult if you're going for specific hits as opposed to the electronic reversed swelling type. For rolls that actually feel the tapping, orchestral rolls are most likely your best bet; I in particular like using the EWQLSO Gold cymbals to that affect, though it's safe to say they're definitely not in your price range right now >_> If you just want a nice swell and you have $60 or so to spare, I would recommend Wave Alchemy Pack 01, take their cymbal selections (nice range in regards to tones too, particularly in regards to your chilled house style), reverse and apply whatever effects you would like on them. The other samples on board can also expand your selection in regards to minimal electronic percussion. In other news... seems as if the Windows updates have officially killed this laptop - it just keeps getting dirty, and I've ran about 6 checkdisks in the space of 2 weeks, which just doesn't seem right. And after a discussion about potential computer upgrading with my mother (actually she started the subject after she got a laptop for herself last week), it seems like I'm going to have to get a new PC myself sometime soon. 4GB of RAM and Intel 4 just won't cut it anymore for what I plan to do with it

A Sonic CD album, anyone? (Generating interest)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
To answer the questions, I'm definitely in to support both soundtracks. We've had differing experiences on being raised on either the original Japanese score or Spencer Nielsen's new score for the American audiences; and so I can pretty much see them fit. In regards to tracks, I can already see what should be considered to take up: The three vocal songs (Sonic Boom / You Can Do Anything / Cosmic Eternity ~ Believe in Yourself) The present variations on all 7 stage themes in both versions (14 songs); though if anyone wants to do any of the Good / Bad Future tracks in addition if they sound really different enough (or even Past in the case of Tidal Tempest, Quartz, Quadrant, Wacky Workbench and Metalic Madness), then I'm cool with that Special Stage in both versions Boss stage in both versions (though, to be fair the US version would be considered hard to do ) Only the Japanese versions of Little Planet and the final boss (the US equivalents are remixes of Sonic Boom and the regular boss theme respectively) That's already enough to cover 2 disks as it is minus extensions. So I am pretty sure we can cover at least 20 of these and have something cohesive, providing we don't pull a Back in Blue and take out the equivalent of Concrete Man (!!!). In regards to style, that would be a tricky one; in comparison to the Genesis games they were already different enough from the Mega Drive releases at the time (Sonic 1 and 2). But ideally, I'd want there to be a sense of energy at least, i.e. keeping the chilled songs to a minimum. Outside from there, I'm cool with a very open direction from the people that are there. Additionally, I'd also suggest that Sonic Boom, You Can Do Anything and Cosmic Eternity retain the lyrics. We had the vocals cut out of the Japanese vocal tracks in the Steam version, and to me it just felt... odd And no Meteo, I'm not going to abandon this one. We can discuss this elsewhere, but now's not the time xD Either way, hopefully you'd get my geist on what I'm going for here. Any further questions on top of it? -
The Final Fantasy VI Remix Contest: Results are in, check first post!!!
Rexy replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
In spite of my harsh voting, my form was confirmed. -
So, after playing through Sonic CD on Steam - so much that I got all the accomplishments and all my times in the top 100 on the PC version - it made me think about how much the sountracks for both releases had accomplished on a technical front, while at the same time there's been so little love in general for the game's scores. Amusingly so, Sonic CD was jokingly mentioned near the end of development for The Sound of Speed, thanks to GaMeBoX cameoing a song from the Japanese score into the game and the game suddenly being brought into conversation. So it's only a matter of time before it could be considered brought up here, especially now since a wider audience has been able to play it for the 20th Annversary. And in addition, there's been no coverage for the USA score, while there's been some for the Japanese score but not since 2003 not counting 'Subsonic Sparkle'. So I can see potential with this. What do you think - should a Sonic CD album go ahead? And if it does, then who's keen enough to co-direct it with me? This is merely in to gather interest so far. If I do consider this seriously, it would probably be a few days after Sonic Zone comes to a close. So go on, don't shy away

So it sounds like us lizards went clubbing this week. And we somehow still distinguished our techniques; Detroit, Manchester, Chicago and Toronto Are blaring those tunes; let's head out there pronto! Though we usually expect SupX to be mellow, He sure brought the rhythms as a versatile fellow. And yet, I'm here laughing at this very feat That he'd do something in the same genre as me. I also brought the groove to be sure And had more emphasis on substance so pure. Though I may think this matchup won't be pretty, I consider myself mighty proud of my ditty. Phonetic Hero must hate the Olympics a lot If he's to think his track will stick out like snot. Great instrument choices, nice fusion of the tracks, And swave cohesiveness - he could yet go for that plaque! Amphibious was also very brave in this race With those thumping beats and that sexy sounding bass. But I thought his source fusion wasn't as strong as Pete's, Whom got my vote in this competitive suite. And I must say, was fun hearing the tracks for round 3. But it's sad that 2 more mixers will be debris. Just keep headstrong, and enjoy the music flow, And be happy that RadioSEGA's loving this show.

I'll test it. Awesome that you used your phone to get it up Also: Thoughts? [EDIT: Well, there's no playlist file in the ZIP, but the tracks all run fine. I'll edit the link accordingly.]

Alright, scratches and grounders. The Sonic Bracket Round 3 tracks are now live! On behalf of SuperiorX, we apologise for the failure to get them onto DarkeSword's webspace. He will have these uploaded onto their when he returns home in addition to the bracket image updates, but for now, it's here for you people to listen to and vote upon. If anyone has any problems with the RAR, let me know
-
Yeah, at this point I consider myself REALLY lucky to be here. I didn't even think I'd get this far when I initially saw the Sonic bracket matchups. At the same time though, I'm still going to fight my way through to the bitter end. I'm out to have fun, and I will be sure to keep sticking with that vision
-
That makes me all the more excited to hear it I am excite! And yes, thanks for sharing the love about the compo, Digi! We're aware of Saturday Night SEGA in particular pimping it out, and the reactions made us feel really warm Alas, the time has come. Voting for the Robotnik Bracket Round 2 is now CLOSED. And here are the results of that vote: Brandon Strader: 25, AMT: 15 ladyWildfire: 22, halc: 18 Gario: 28, KingTiger: 12 Syllix: 21, Chernabogue: 19 Congratulations to the victors! You are now able to get going on round 3: Brandon Strader (Planet Wisp) vs ladyWildfire (Underground) Gario (Sky Sanctuary) vs Syllix (Launch Base [GEN]) SuperiorX will update the bracket image as soon as he can, as well as unleash the Sonic Bracket round 3 tracks. For now, let the mixing stage for Robotnik Round 3 commence

Yeah, may have been pretty nervous realising that, but what can I say - they may compliment each other quite nicely. However, come tomorrow, we may not necessarily DO the 'nice' thing, so let's leave this as a hinter for the suspicious folk out there. My name is Beverley Wooff. Therefore, I will huff... I will puff... and I will blow your house down!!

So with 48 hours remaining, how's everybody doing? Me, I've got an arrangement down, and I've been nitpicking it hard over the past couple of days making minor tweaks, though being under the influence of a cold isn't helping things in regards to my accuracy >_> Nonetheless, I'm really liking how it's coming out and I hope you do too
-
Really, even the random pieces of 6-month-old cheese left inside that would barf everything back out? o_O (Not showing any disregard to Matt's hygiene, but you never can tell with us computer nerds )
-
Oh, I believe we already have a site that shares what we forum goers look like with each other... what's it called again? ... ..ohyeah! Now I remember - it's Facebook.
-
Smart dress or not, you actually look cooler in real life than I thought you would be And I had no idea until recently that you're only 5 months older than me; I feel happy knowing once again that I'm not too old for this remixing thing xD
-
You guys better take pictures when you meet! These community meetups only happen once every blue moon
-
Oh God, the inevitable hapened - Syllix voted for Chernabogue, but Chernabogue voted for himself. I mean, what kind of faux-French crepe are you, Alex?
-
As much as I like Will and Brandon, a move like this would be too similar to what we had 2 weeks ago with AkumajoBelmont being a no-show and someone asking for Lidawg to come back. Hence I may be a bit more critical of that kind of decision, but I'm bound to think I'm probably going to be the only one o_O
-
Brandon's right. I saw his Facebook post this morning; his uncle has passed away. I feel very sad for his loss, and I offer my condolences to him and his family.
-
Yeah, I used to be really scared of them because of past experiences, but seriously, you can't find a more open-minded set of music critics out there now I may have also had one or two of those situations of tracks sent when it's all "this is way too musically different, they're not going to like it", but it makes it all the better for it if they all gave the four YESes to it
-
It didn't stop Brandon from getting a mix past the panel that had Nicholas Cage samples sprinkled into it.
-
Well, even with Benjamin Briggs gone I still don't see it as clean sailing. I mean, I got the bare bones of the arrangement sketched out (another good 4 and a half minutes worth), and right now I am battling A) the jubilee celebrations, a cold that surfaced yesterday morning >_> and C) a nasty surprise when booting up my pc today which said it had a corrupt file, asked me to run chkdisk, and now it booted just fine. So for all we know, I could be out prematurely too, but I'm not going to give in. I'll be sure to watch my progress every step of the way You did a great fight, Ethan. For an opportunity for us lizards to clash was clearly a great moment in this set so far
-
I can understand your sentiment. But that's what happens when we get further and further up; the competition just gets tougher because of the state of the guys left. All in all, all we can do is just do our best and have no regrets doing so. And even if that's the case, Matt's been a great sport with hosting the whole thing. Very optimistic, enthusiastic, and generally plain fun to be around, almost reminiscent of the old PRC days It'll be exciting to see this go through to the bitter end, indeed!
