  1. Games like Dragon Age, Oblivion, or just RPGs in general tend to be popular with women. The WoW guilds I've been in have also had a pretty even gender ratio. Hell, there's probably more women than men in the #ocrwow channel.
  2. You're all wrong. The live version is always the best. Even if the performance is worse, and the sound quality is crap. Cause it's real, man!
  3. In the future, everyone's main DAW will be Minecraft.
  4. Anyone who doesn't make music in a custom-built modular synthesizer is a n00b.
  5. Gamebox has a really nice P-Funk vibe that you almost never hear from other remixers.
  6. I've got tons of presets. I almost never use them as is though, I often tweak them until they become almost unrecognizable. It's got me thinking about getting into sound design. Some people just want to create music right away and don't have the interest/time for the process of creating their own sounds. I don't think I've ever seen someone claim there's something wrong with that. As for drum loops I often layer them together with my own sequenced drums.
  7. It's a shame it only happened after the music has largely blended together with film and TV music. Modern game music has largely lost its identity that set it apart from other media.
  8. http://www.bombergames.net/sorr_project/ It's been 4 years since the release of V4. There have been so many changes, additions, polish, etc, it's practically a whole new game. I've made some new remixes and originals, and there's also a lot of music from other talented contributors like Groovemaster303 and BGM1401. The soundtrack will be out for download a bit later.
  9. http://www.destructoid.com/genesis-game-monster-world-iv-coming-to-psn-xbla-197668.phtml The game is bloody great and it's about time it gets some more attention. There's no info on whether it will be translated, would be surprised if it wasn't given the amount of dialog and inventory navigation. Probably the Genesis equivalent of Seiken Densetsu 3, which Squenix still stubbornly refuses to exploit.
  10. 2 classic PC platformers that got some less-than-desirable outsourced sequels on GBC and GBA: Commander Keen and Jazz Jackrabbit.
  11. A bunch of GDC videos about old games have been made public. Some of them include Doom, Maniac Mansion, and Another World/Out of this World http://www.gdcvault.com/free/gdc-11 You get to see both the video and the powerpoint presentation in separate windows. I'm watching the Another World one now which is really interesting, how he basically improvised the entire game by himself.
  12. I haven't played it, but Blood 2 gets a very bad rap compared to the first game. Actually, I did play a demo of it. But the only thing I can remember is a painstakingly long loading screen.
  13. http://plainenglishnuclear.blogspot.com/2011/03/yet-another-japan-reactor-post.html
  14. The Pac-Man 2 music isn't that different from Super Mario World or Super Mario Land 2 when you think about it.
  15. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-10-biowares-mike-laidlaw-a-defence-of-dragon-age-ii-interview It's never a good sign when the devs feel they have to defend their game like that. And a nice interview with Inon Zur here: http://music.ign.com/articles/115/1154594p1.html Would love to hear what some Bioware folks have to say on the development after they've left the company. That was pretty much the case with C&C4, after the team was laid off some of them said pretty bluntly that the game was rushed out and the changes were forced on them from higher-ups at EA.
  16. It's nice to see Malcos with something new again, and it's even nicer to hear something which harkens back to an era when R&B wasn't terrible. A++ would listen again.
  17. Just be glad you didn't have to pay for it as DLC. That certainly wouldn't be below Bioware at this point.
  18. Techno has fallen out of touch as a catch-all term. Everyone is calling everything "electro" now instead. Pretty annoying seeing as the music was pretty underground as late as around 2004, now the internet is saturated with so much regular house or whatever labeled as electro, it's kinda tough to pick out the genuine stuff.
  19. That's pretty much a foregone conclusion
