  1. Great stuff. Not much to say about this really, except that this is definitely on a high level. YES
  2. Hmm, needed to turn this up quite a bit. Maybe some limiting/compression on some of the instruments. It was due I suppose to the very low frequency bass that some speakers just wouldn't pick up. 2.20 - That's when the song cut off, due to Geocities. I'll have to come back to this later.
  3. I'm not an electric guitar player (yet!), but it did sound to me like the guitar sound was muffled, and because of that the song lacked definition. Very 'drum machiney' drums. I did like the arrangement and attitude of it however, so this one I'll have to come back to.
  4. This might fit in well with some sort of video or something, but as a standalone piece it doesn't work too well. After the initial novelty wears off (rather quickly), there is nothing great about the song itself, and one gets very bored towards the end. More should be put into the song itself rather than just relying solely on the 'old style' sound. NO
  5. I do like the sound and groove of the mix, although I thought that the kick drum could do with some more oomph, as this mix had hardly any bass. First of all, the quick sharp notes worked well for about 4 bars, but became annoying after a while - this is the kind of thing that tires listeners out. Largely because of this, the mix seems cluttered and messy, re-listenability is also affected. The drum beat had some great compression on it, but having lots of breaks and crazy fills (whilst taking out all the quick notes) would do this mix a lotta good IMO. Liked the bit at the end. Overall this is a NO
  6. My only problem with this song is the lead instrument. Oh, haha, that seems to be the main gripe with everyone else too. IMO, that's the only thing that is stopping me from saying yes. It just takes away from any seriousness the mix might have had, if you get what I mean. Some synth sounds can do that. NO Change that synth.
  7. Granted, this is short, but after listening to the original, a hell of a lot has been added. This version sounds a lot more epic than the orginal, and this has a good amount of expression. However, by the time I had started to really listen to it, it had already finished. A longer version, with continuing variation would get a yes from me. NO
  8. I think this mix has a lot of potential. The drums are weak, and I think better drum samples would definitely put this mix up a level. The problem is that the drum beat and samples are rather cliche, in contrast to the other elements of the mix and therefore detracting from it. This could also do with a strong lead to stand out in front, a melody line to carry the song. NO I would definitely like to see this one resubmitted.
  9. IMO this didn't add anything to the orginal, didn't set it apart from the mixes of this theme we already had, and didn't take anything to another level. The mix sounded good, but when the orginal theme has been done so much and is so popular, the bar goes way up. NO
  10. This is kinda jazzish, but my main gripe is that the sounds used aren't expressive at all. Mostly I agree with what has already been said. This mix would really benefit from better patches. NO
  11. I found this to be a rather boring, flat mix. The sounds were nice, but the whole thing was so background and uninspiring. The bit I do really like about the mix is those pad chords near the end, but the rest of the mix could do with something to make it stand out. NO These needs more effort in terms of arranging, needs more character. Resubmit please.
  12. I must say that this defintely sounds like a space travel song, and I love the modulating bass in the second half. This would have been nice with a fat beat on top, but that's just a personal thing. YES
  13. Not bad, but I thought perhaps that real finger clicks would give it that real feel. The mix is also quite short and the ending, well, what ending? It's not a big no, but a NO nevertheless.
  14. I like this mix, but there is only one thing about it I don't like - the repetition. I know once you've got something good you want to contunie with it, and that's all good, but you have to add something more, mix it up a bit more. The pad chords near the end were good, but by then I was already bored. I'd say this mix has a lot of potential but it needs to hold the listener throughout. It's a NO for now, but please work on this a bit more and resubmit.
  15. The percussion processing on this is excellent, the reverb used and the amount of it, I felt like I was actually in a factory. Unfortunately, that is where the good stuff ends. This song has not got a lot to it at all. Sonically, yes the mix sounds full because of the generous reverb applied. However, the mix does not evolve as one might expect, and the lack of non-persussional instruments makes for rapidly declining interest. NO I recommend adding different elements, such as an orginal bassline, a counter melody, maybe some pads in the background. The percussion sounds will only keep the listener's interest for a 3rd of the song max. You gotta mix it up man!
  16. Hmm, not bad at all. It is a mix that grows on you as you listen to the song. The only thing I would have liked is a higher sample rate on the sample, but nevertheless I think this is an effective mix. YES
  17. There are 2 main issues with this mix for me: 1. First and most noticeable is the general confusion of notes and the seeming offkeyness. Perhaps this is some form of genius or something that I just can't hear, but the arpeggios definitely sound off-key to me. 2. The mixing is off. The drum beat in the beginning is nicely placed imo, but then, after a while, following a few very loud instruments suddenly entering and overcrowing everything, the drum beat is just weakened, and by the end of the mix is rendered near enough irrelevant. Definitely need to regain some control of the volume of some of those sections, like 2.05 for example. NO
  18. I know it's not an objective statement to make, but for me Icecap mixes do have to have something quite special going for them to compete with the mixes we already have. Unfortunately this mix didn't have that something. The pitch bend flute failed to impress, and the guitar sounded decidedly fake. In addition, the groove seemed to make the whole song drag it's heels. NO
  19. I'm not familiar with the music from this particular Final Fantasy, so I cannot discuss the difference between this and the original. I will say however, that I find this to be a difficult one because there are bits of this that I really like, and bits that I dislike. Overall, I think the arrangement is good, and suits the piano sound used. So I'll give this a YES
  20. Hmmmm, where can I start. First off, the piano just sounds wrong. All the sounds are really not used well, on their own or together. The percussion is quite annoying, and I'm hearing some nasty volume thing going on, sounds like it's been compressed funny. NO This just didn't sound good to my ears.
  21. Yes this is more like it. The middle section has the most movement and is by far the most enjoyable part. YES
  22. I agree with what has already been said. I think there generally needs to be more to this mix. Some drums and bass would be really good to add to this (just to reiterate!) NO At the moment, not engaging enough.
  23. Pretty good mix, but not so good mixing. The arrangement and movement is good, and it does have momentum. Unfortunately I find the kick drum in the beginning to be too loud, as well as the main sawtooth, which had so much delay on it it just saturated the whole thing for that part. At 3.35, a section starts where there is a note at the beginning of every bar, and it just doesn't seem to fit in. The song also ended on a low imo. The last section definitely puts this mix down. NO
  24. hi, i submitted a remix a couple months ago, and protricity told me i could do this after waiting a couple months, so i hope its not to soon to pm you. ok so my remix "Sealed Away" is from final fantasy 5 and it can be found at i think there was one part fo the ID3 tag not filled out correctly, but as i dont have access to the account anymore, i cant change it, sorry. also i was wondering if you could change the email address on my little remixer/artist page thingy to djsiamey@hotmail.com, (if its not to much trouble) cause i switched to that one. thanks for your time, keep up the good work -heath morris aka DJ Siamey
  25. I've never heard so many anti-clmaxes in a song, the /32 snares build up.... and.... no. When it finally happens you appreciate it more. I'm loving the pitch bends on the saw synth, although I thought the kick drum could have done with a bit more ooomph. I'm not liking the stringy sounding solo, but apart from that, this mix is memorable and has character. YES
