  1. I actually like this quite a bit. Sure it meanders through (i would have the same the complaint about it feeling lost) but i REALLY like the ambience. Every once in a while there seems to be some harmonic dissonance at play, though. The blowing sound on the left at around at about 3 minutes in is sort of off-key with the melody that comes in. Some slight pitch correction would help that or possibly EQing down at around 300 Hz could possibly solve that.

Upon multiple listenings, I can definitely pick out a main melody that carries throughout the song. I feel the problem with the feeling of "being lost" could possibly be due to the fact that the melody is incredibly long. Rewriting the melody to add a couple-note hook that crops up now and then in the atmospherics would really tie the rest of the song together... If that makes sense.

  2. Fargo. One of the most boring movies to ever grace the shit-movies category. Anyone willing to disagree with this statement is a pseudo-intellectual hoity toity namby pamby stuck-up-their-own-ass shit-eating bum-tickling mouth-breathing dumbass-humping douche-drinking retard. Tis a fact.

    Also:

    Small Soldiers

    Royal Tenenbaums (utter shit)

    Freddie got Fingered (udder shit)

    The Life Aquatic

    Stealing Harvard

  3. Thanks everyone for the input! I may just have to suck it up and try to record with mics. I don't have the best recording area, but I guess thats a better alternative. I also have decent recording stuff.

I'm planning on playing folk/alternative-style music on the acoustic.

I was thinking of buying an acoustic or a bass guitar though, truthfully. I have pretty darn decent Bass guitar samples and have no use for my acoustic samples, so i figured a good acoustic would be a better purchase.

Grrr, i don't know what to get at guitar center; I own better versions of the software I can buy there for 200 bucks.

  4. I've been wanting to get into acoustic guitar more than i have been. I own a shitty acoustic that my Dad bought probably about 20 years ago that doesn't stay tuned and is missing one of the plugs to keep the low E string in... So I want to get a new guitar.

Here's the thing: I'm going to have about 200 dollars in guitar center cash after christmas, so I'm only going to be interested in something they have there. Also, considering that my main reason for starting to get into acoustic guitar is so that I can record it, I was considering getting an electric-acoustic. Truthfully, I have no idea about guitars in general but I want one that will sound the best being plugged into a pre-amp and fits into the sub-250 range.

Any help would be great and much appreciated.

EDIT: I'm looking at this... http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Classic-Design-Series-CD100CE-Dreadnought-Cutaway-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-519311-i1397687.gc

Also, do all acoustic-electric guitars require on-board batteries? I've only seen this mentioned in a couple reviews, but that seems like a royal pain.

  5. That was awesome. I have to say, I've recently thought Joss Whedon has been slightly overrated (I mean Firefly was outstanding, but otherwise?) but this made me realize how good he really can be. Also, I have a huge man-crush on Nathan Fillion... He's just so awesome.

...Anywho... To the people who have been reluctant to see it: Its not god's gift to man, but it really is pretty excellent, especially considering what it has to compete with.

  6. I'd say the fair thing to do is that you have them license your music for a flat fee. This would mean you would bank on the fact that your notoriety plus the little bit extra that they would pull in for you would be enough to pay off the rest of the percentage you didn't get per unit sold. It would be a little tough to negotiate that since it seems like you are going to be relatively active in making the music fit in with the game...

However, if you did agree to the terms of percentages on both sides I'd say whatever they were going to give you in the first place and maybe 10% from you to them on the album sold. You could possibly bump that to 15% if you say ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING you make for the game is yours and you can do with it what you will. The only drawback is that if you agree to percentages on the album, it doesn't exactly sound like you would completely own it... But 50% is fucking bullshit. Hell, 25% is pushing it considering you have your own means of publishing/releasing it.

But then again, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Then theres the possibility that the game becomes super mega huge and then you better fucking be getting a percentage.

  7. Wait, that ain't right. Some of his music is actually pretty good. I just mean that I'm surprised, because his music is pretty unique and it kinda rocks.

The only version of any of his songs that rocks is this: http://www.trifonic.com/2008/11/20/new-music-love-lockdown-trifonic-remix-mp3/

Otherwise no... Most of his songs are comprised completely of samples or are a hodgepodge of mess. Oh, and he's a pompous douche.

  8. I gotcha all beat:

  9. I remember the couple of ff7 compositions he posted in the wip forum and said he didn't want to submit them because they were too long. As I listened to them I remember thinking that he was one of my favorite composers and deserved to have them up on the site despite the fact that they were both 8+ minutes long. I really wish I still had those songs too; after a couple HD crashes I've completely lost both of them.

Otherwise, every other song he has up on here, namely Ascension to Cosmo Canyon, are incredibly beautiful and thought provoking.

You will be truly missed, Reuben.

    Rest in Peace

  10. I know that was a major gripe with Oblivion (I think morrowind did that too). I remember killing rats was kind of annoying early on, but the same rats were still a bitch a few levels up, kind of strange. There was a mod to fix that for Oblivion, somthing will probably come out for Fallout 3.

Reading this thread makes me want to try this out. I can't remember the last "new" game I bought... lol

You will not regret it. I can't remember the last time I was this involved in a game. I absolutely love it! I also haven't encountered a single bug the entire time I've played it... So take that as you will. But its a wonderful experience.

  11. Is anyone else kind of annoyed at how much most of the opposition levels up with you? It kind of kills the happiness buzz of leveling up when you realize all of the enemies just leveled up too. I understand that they don't want it to get boring later on, but it seems like they could have easily made it so that all of the enemies could level up at like 80% of what you do so that later on you actually feel like you've accomplished something.

I dunno, thats just what I see.

  12. I absolutely love this game. This coming from someone who couldn't stand Oblivion.

I'm a huge FPS fan, so i maxed out my SPECIAL to favor guns and repair and I blow the shit out of everything. Though, those radscorpions are near impervious to weapons that easily take down super mutants... Goddamn radscorpions.

However, I haven't had ANY bugs in my play-through on my 360. I'm level 11 and only at the part where I'm supposed to go to Rivet City; so that might change.

Can someone tell me how to get Dogmeat? I thought you were supposed to get him relatively early on. I've searched through about 60% of the total areas on my map (it at least looks like it) and I still haven't found anything pertaining to Dogmeat. Is he part of the main quest that I haven't gotten to yet?

  13. As for the motion sickness problem:

I get motion sick playing a PC FPS game for over an hour. I seriously had to go through Half-Life 2 in a much slower time than I'd like because I would be physically ill after a few hours. That being said, I played the demo back to back on my 32" about 10 feet away and had no problems. Every once in a while it made me slightly dizzy for a couple seconds, but my wife thought so too and she has an iron stomach so i think that might end up being a problem for extended plays.

  14. This has happened to me a lot. I'm sorry to say I'm not as well-versed in old-school gamery as I'd like. After having gone back and played Metroid Prime, Chrono Cross, Mega Man 2 and several others, I've noticed a lot of music I hadn't remembered listening to in the first place but had nostalgia for nonetheless. Hell, FFMusicDJ's String Machine resonated so well for me that when I revisited the Corel Prison in FF7 (a song i didn't remember at all the first couple times i played through) I suddenly had a rush of nostalgia for that song.

Not to go terribly off-topic, but I recently bought the Mass Effect album for the galaxy map music even though I didn't really enjoy the game. I ended up loving the entire album so much I went back and finished the game. Then I loved the game so much I've almost gotten 100% completion on a second playthrough.

I never thought a game's music would color my experience so much with it; it brought back a game I was "meh" about to one of my favorite RPG's.

  15. Just got done with the demo.

I love it! The graphics are REALLY good. The character models for your sister are kinda poo, but otherwise I'd say it comes close to MGS4 as far as visuals... Sure there's less to model and the models aren't quite as high in polys but its still pretty incredible.

The controls are also good; they don't seems like it at first, but they become pretty intuitive when you finally get used to them. From what I've played its like prince of persia meets dystopia with less annoying battles.

  16. It seems like their animation department is comprised of a couple of mentally handicapped children attempting to use MS Paint on a calculator.

All of the models are actually not terrible on several of the models, but the animation is horrendous. All-around. Terribly horrible. Even with the fact that there are a bunch of different types of inhabitants in the game; you'd think the canned animation of walking, for people at least, wouldn't be as bad as it is.

The worst part is that the environments are so compelling and interesting and they suck you in so well. Then, you see a guy lurching lifelessly up a hill towards you with the same shit animation as he would be running on flat ground. It completely takes you out of the experience. He might as well just float toward you with no animation.
