  1. i never really touched 2003 server. was was taken out?
  2. that's the game we played...touchy
  3. neither did your mom last night
  4. eh, so what? i'd be buying most of the movies i want either way.
  5. dude, they're going for less than the normal price for a new dvd on ebay. i might as well take advantage of this - back them up, sell them again before it goes out of business. i could get a sizeable amount of backups for relatively cheap...and actually have them be legal, too.
  6. it means you have to buy all new software - EVERYTHING - to get it to run properly. all your vst plugins, all your word processing...everything.
  7. i could never get anything to work well in vista, regardless. xp is just so much more stable for audio stuff - which is all i really use it for, besides surfing and a game or two.
  8. maybe so, but that psu that you picked out is underpowered, particularly in the long run as efficiency starts to drop from wear. a larger psu (as long as it's not enormous or something) is better - that tiny power supply couldn't even handle my system (e4500, evga 7600, 2x1gig ddr2 4200) very well without issues at max load. and there's no room for upgrades in the future. that particular gigabyte ain't a high end mobo, though - that's why it's <100$. i've had issues in the past with heavy fans, and it's better to run with less than more, particularly in a case that can handle it. unless soma's planning on overclocking that processor to like 3.5ghz or something.
  9. let me buy all of your hd-dvd movies. i just got a player for my computer for 10$, so now i want movies for less than they originally cost. post movies and prices in this thread. if they're a special edition, note that.
  10. lets kick some ass at super smash 64. we carry people off of maps to PISS THEM OFF
  11. a lot of state schools have really nice music programs. i'd suggest pursuing state-funded schooling in your state - for example, while UB and Buffalo State (NY) don't have great programs right now, they were a major center in high-level, advanced composition (avant-garde for the most part) during the 70s.
  12. eh, you've got less headroom because of the immense requirements of all versions of vista. i still prefer x64 xp.
  13. i put in 10 bucks as well.
  14. centurion is a great case - i've put computers into three of them, and they're totally worth the money. if he's running an 8800gts, 4 gigs of ram, the biggest c2d available, and your standard optical and hard disk drive, you're going to need AT LEAST 509w to cover all that - on a 100% efficiency power supply, which doesn't work. count on an average of 80% efficiency, you're talking at least 600w, with no room for upgrade. a 750 is an excellent choice. add your watts! also, yours only has one 12v rail in it - for a decent processor, a nice video card, and all that peripherals. phaw! get a bigger one - the 750 will handle everything you ever throw at it, even factoring in the efficiency rating. the cpu fan you picked is enormous - great for a high-end motherboard, but that gigabyte that he's got will have trouble shouldering the load, particularly in a smaller case like the centurion is. i'd go for a standard circular fan with an impeller-style heatsink, rather than the enormous radiator you picked, CH.
  15. http://slashdot.org/~twitter/journal/177855 http://itnews.com.au/News/72401,windows-vista-sp1-wreaks-havoc-on-some-pcs-users-complain.aspx http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/16/vista-sp1-sp1-toilet-paper-hit-japan/ orly? i don't want this to be about vista vs. xp vs. linux, so let's leave those notions to ourselves from now on (as much as i want to flame vista users for using vista) and focus this thread on the up-and-coming. any more information, anyone?
  16. i must be incredibly stupid, but where's the 'donate' button on the support us page?
  17. they're modeling the upgrades after the virtual machines that apple used to go from 9 to X (carbon, cocoa, and the other one that i forgot).
  18. oh, i lack cable management. i didn't have any cable ties, so the inside probably looks like a rat's nest. not like it's going to kill it or anything, it's not a super high-end computer like the one i'll be building soon. it looked pretty good though, and performed way above standard specs. make sure to tell them about your wife's crappy-ass keyboard, and your awesome monitor that you had sitting around since the stone age, jamil.
  19. no, it's not. most colleges have license offers with microsoft where they can distribute copies of windows for just the cost of the tech's time to make the CD. it's completely legal - and an advertised option through the tech department of every state school.
  20. i love how they used a chapman grand at the beginning as a baliset.
  21. just get someone who's still there to get a copy for you =) that's how i got my first copy of xp...8 dollars.
  22. same reaction here, nekofrog. there's one hole in that argument, pez. 32-bit: up to approx. 3.5 gigs (due to video ram, system space reservations) 64-bit: up to 127.5 gigs of ram (due to the same reasons). 128-bit: way more. there's no way in hell consumer systems are going to overrun 128 gigs of ram any time soon. 128-bit will be for super-machines - not for the commercial market. 64-bit should have been the standard when vista came out, all told - the x86 architecture was useless with the high memory demands that vista puts on it.
  23. lol i enjoyed the scifi miniseries, even with the atrocious acting and 'special effects'. i just can't wait to actually see everything in hi-def, pretty much.
  24. i wouldn't see the point in having your standard 32-bit architecture any more. it just doesn't make any sense from a development standpoint - why purposely limit your computer's ability to access memory? it's bogus from any viewpoint. it's not like they're going to be able to cross-over drivers from previous systems any more anyways.
  25. hey raptor nub kid post something that's worth reading
